i have nothing against "bully breed" dogs - but their owners need to grow some nuts and train them to behave the way they need to in public - not the dog`s fault just a stupid lazy dog owner - could have been someone`s kid

Yeah that is 1 too many zeros there. Pits can bite pretty damn hard but they don`t have the strongest bite of the domesticated canine. From a quick internet search it seems that a Rottweiler`s bite is in most cases much stronger. German shepherds are pretty much on the same level as pits when it comes down to pounds PSI. In any case, owners need to be more responsible. That could have easily been a small child hanging limp from his jaws.

Scuzoid: "..no such thing as jaw locking on any breed of dog."

Pitbull jaws may not technically `lock` but they can and do exert over 3200 pounds of continuous jaw pressure with little effort. That jaw pressure is comparable to an alligator. Also I`ve seen pitbulls that have chomped down on a few things (a girls hand and a cat) and they would not release. Both dogs had to be put down and even then their jaws didn`t immediately release.

P.S. The girl still has trouble using her left hand, the cat died.

Lord. I linked the full story. The DAUGHTER, 18 or something, was walking the dog. On the leash. The dog saw a new, potentially dangerous but definitely strange, species and bolted from the daughter. The father wasn`t even at the beach. This dog is far too large to be alone with the daughter in public. ~85lb dog with an ~130lb female is just horrible planning. Finally, no such thing as jaw locking on any breed of dog. The child simply wasn`t strong or assertive enough to give the dog a real reason to let go.

To people saying why was it off the lead? Is that not a really normal thing for people to do with their dogs?

Well I have a few words to say...first, why was the dog off the leash?? Second, why didn`t the owner have control over the dog, it was obvious to me that once Mark got to the dog things changed in the dogs head, his jaws unlocked and he let go.
Fianlly, I wish I could see the whole situation from the start, I have a feeling this dog was left off his leash to run around, this could have been avoided by a responsible dog owner.
You are right to think this dog would attack a child and not think twice.

Chows probably are more violent but they aren`t popular amongst hood rats so there`s far fewer incidents. Here`s the stats it speaks for itself. I myself don`t have a problem with whatever dog you want to own but find it funny this guys on a anti gun crusade which is a machine that a person controls but owns an extremly powerful dog with a mind of it`s own that he can`t control.

@mcgovern

Here`s my problem with your little mis-leading chart by the way:

It doesn`t take into account population of breed…

There are around 72 million dogs in the United States…

There are around 5,256,000 Pit Bulls in the united states. In comparison there are around 900,000 Rottweilers, 780,000 German Shepherds and 240,00 Chows…

Between the years 1979-1998 there was 66 fatal Pit Bull attacks, 39 Rottweiler attacks, 17 German Shepherd attacks and 8 chow attacks.

If you can manage to divide population by fatal attacks you`ll figure out that chows are statistically more likely to fatal attack you then a Pit Bull is.

LOL!! This anti gun tool can`t even control his pet. I really hate pitbulls how about 5 day waiting period and background check on all dog purchases. You may be issued a dog walking permit after a 90 wait for a license and a 8 hour training course....

If you can`t control the dog, you can`t own the dog. Give him away or put him down. For example, no one buys a .50 clbr as their first weapon for a reason.

CrakrJak "scary looking black ones". i think i know what your talking about. no need to beat around the bush. the "black" ones must be jailed and dealt with properly. the only thing now is to pick out our uniforms and marching music.
on a serious note. go ahead and tell me its not the breed its the owner. the breed is vulnerable to this kind of behavior however, any dog with that level of aggression should get a bullet in the head. i love my two dogs but i would have no problem ending their life if they showed that kind of aggression.

Not the dog`s fault. Those dogs are awesome.

The owner has proven himself to be a stupid piece of poo, so we all know where to place blame.

Yesterday, a 14 year old girl was killed by dogs, not 10 miles from my house. The dogs involved were bull mastiffs and Staffordshire bull terriers; such a horrible death.

Good troll, but this has nothing to do with survival of the fittest. With proper training this could`ve been avoided, but it seems the owner doesn`t give a poo.

I say it`s time for an assault pitbull dog ban. We`ll start with a limit on the number of pups one of these killer dogs can have in a litter and then ban the `accessories` too.

Then make everyone who wants a pitbull must have an extensive background check, a state license, register every dog with the police and the scary looking black ones must be confiscated.

Think of the children`s lives that will be saved.
And if you disagree, then you`re a bitter clinger.

As you can see, you get people talking about how you should just kill the dog for attacking a unknown species, something EVERY dog SHOULD at the very least consider, as the dog doesn`t know whether this new species is a threat to the owner. You get people pissed off at the dog because they feel it`s the dog`s fault because they have never once actually thought about what it means to live with a large dog. THIS should make them actually use their brain. You see THIS, and you should be able to come to the conclusion, "If I were to get a dog like this, I need to know I can control it."

All the child in the video needed to do was tackle the dog. Period. Dogs don`t really like to be hurt by humans, and if she`s too weak to lift the dog in the air, running shoulder first into the dog would`ve sufficed.

"Not sure why we need a video of some idiots wrestling an already dead seal from some dog, but... this is the internet."

It`s important to remind, particularly women, your pet is lethal. Not because you need to live in fear of what your pet is capable of. Not because you need to keep it away from anything/one you feel need protection. But because YOU, particularly women, need to know if the time comes, slapping the animal with a fraking belt is just pointless. Poor response from owners too weak to handle their dog, or afraid it might turn on them, are reasons decent dogs are put down, and large all encompassing dog bans are put in place.

Dogs kill things. Regardless of breed. My sweet 14 year old black lab once viciously skinned a little garter snake for no reason.

@markust, having a brain-damaged spouse is not a shield against criticism when you cynically use that person to try to play on our sympathies and take away our constitutional rights.

Mark Kelly and Sarah Brady can both go f*** themselves.

"Ha ha ha. The guy who`s wife was almost murdered but somehow miraculously survived was denied a gun permit. Oh you`re hilarious."

That`s not the point OldOllie was making by posting that article. Kelly was going to buy it and give it to someone else to show how easy it is to do something like that. The gun dealer found out about it during the waiting period and then cancelled the sale. Question 11a on the Firearms Transaction Record form clearly states:

"Warning: You are not the actual buyer if you are acquiring the firearm(s) on behalf of another person. If you are not the actual buyer, the dealer cannot transfer the firearm(s) to you."

Since the gun dealer knew he was only buying the firearm to give it away he had no choice but to cancel the sale of the firearm and refund his money.

The daughter (The one in the Navy hoodie) was walking the dog. On the leash. Mark Kelly wasn`t even at the beach when this started. I`ve been a pit bull owner my whole life (Well, minus some time in the military) and one thing I know for certain, if you`re not strong enough to fight your dog off of yourself as it`s tearing into your arm, you shouldn`t own the dog period. I`ve NEVER had a pit draw blood against anyone or anything (Play roughly, sure. Snarl and try to show other dogs who`s boss at the park, sure. But never blood.), but if one ever does, crying and asking for help won`t cut it.

I saw an article on Cracked a couple weeks ago that showed that domesticated house cats are responsible for decimating suburban wildlife (mice, squirrels, ground moles, etc). I never knew, but even well-fed house cats will kill, simply for fun. Just kind of cool info.

Ha ha ha. The guy who`s wife was almost murdered but somehow miraculously survived was denied a gun permit. Oh you`re hilarious. Conservatives may want to choose their battles a little wiser. Even though Mark Kelly is a huge hypocrite this just makes you and every conservative attacking him look like more of a huge flaming @$$hole. There`s sometimes a line you just don`t cross. It`s what makes you a better person.

No doubt, the only one that did anything right was Mark when he lifted the dog by his head. If that doesn`t work lift the dog by it`s back legs. Although the whole thing is still his fault. Why did it take him so long to get there?

That bull looks like a sweet, well behaved dog.

If the beach is populated by Seals then all dog owners should leash and control the dog. The baby seal has no chance against any dog on shore.

Dog does not have the concept of environmental responsibilities & should not be blamed for his instincts.

People are idiots.

Regardless of how long dogs have been domesticated, they still share many behaviors with their wild relatives. When I hear about any kind of animal attack it never surprises me and you`ll never hear me pretend to be outraged like most people. Wanna know why? Well, here`s what some of their friends and distant relatives were up to today...

do you even know if the seal was alive when the dog found it? Why should he be fined?? it didn`t look to me like the dog pulled the seal pup out of the water to kill it.. I see the crowd was so upset about that "poor baby" that they pulled it out and buried it... Hah! they didn`t care at ALL! most walked away crying (oh boo hoo) and other decided to just film it being washed back into the ocean. Get over it people. It`s natures way. Gee-sus! The dog was being a dog..it wasn`t a back alley dog fight.
