    nice try but most of the world already knows that the big feet resembles the world`s #1 terrorist regime.

    It would be sad to live in that nation and be unable to stand up, like the rest of the world, and chant "DEATH TO THE PRESIDENCY!!!!!! DEATH TO THE PRESIDENCY!!!!!! DEATH TO THE PRESIDENCY!!!!!! Even China is getting fed up with North Korea. The most recent negotiations have been centered on the topic of N.Korean `refugees` should the regime fail. China doesn`t want the refugees and wants guarantees that American troops won`t be stationed on the Yalu River after the collapse.

    I believe that`s a good sign from China, that they are willing to negotiate the future.

    Even China is getting fed up with North Korea.
    That`s because China doesn`t want them having the bomb as much as the rest of the world. Also, since it`s pretty much known that NK has been collaborating with Iran to build nukes, it`s not a good sign that they are getting closer. But I doubt China will engage in sanctions, which is the one thing that could actually really hurt NK.

    tedgp i agree, in fact is really strange that the country with more nukes in the world and the only country that have used atomic bombs on people is against the other nations that have it,oh not against all,USA is blind with Israel that have atomic bomb and that have allways refused international inspections (hmm but they don`t have started a recent war in the middle east just for this reason? Double standards everywhere!!)

    Sadly the Nuke as it stands right now is what keeps the peace. Just the idea that we have thousands of country wiping bombs keeps people in check from the crazies. Problem is as technology becomes more accessible, and whatnot it`s an eventuality that people you don`t want getting it will in fact get it.

    You have to hope cooler heads will prevail.

    @tedgp and @piperfawn:
    The person with the biggest and/or most guns makes the rules in war.
    I`m not saying I agree with it, or disagree with you, but that is how war works. The winning side makes the rules because the winning side can back themselves up.

    The only way to really change the US`s tactics is if someone with bigger toys come into play, but because the US can make the rules, they won`t let them happen. And why should they?

    Yeah we did use the Bomb in WW2, that`s right, because we didn`t want to go on an extended 2-4 yr backpacking tour of Japan (you folks included of course) losing even more lives digging them out of every mountain and cave on the Island in a land invasion.

    There was collateral damage sure, but war is hell, and you make the hard decisions that will end it as soon as possible.

    Furthermore I believe no one wants any of NK`s neighbors to be the target of a nuke strike, and ditto if they have their sights on our West coast. Other than that, we could care less about them, they have more of a problem feeding themselves let alone executing any deeply, profoundly stupid nuclear writing of checks their a$$es can`t cash.

    "they have more nukes than anyone and to date are the only country to use them on innocent civilian population."

    North Korea has recently threatened South Korea with final destruction, and has released two videos depicting the US being attacked by nuclear weapons. They are also working with Iran to develop their nuclear program. Although the US may have more nukes than anyone else, we have only used them twice in 70 years.

    Japan may have had a civilian population, but by no means were they innocent. The Japanese people have committed some of the worst (un)documented crimes against humanity of any country on earth.
    Look up the rape of Nanjing, or

    Because showing the destructive power of the A-Bomb by blowing up an uninhabited area clearly wasn`t enough.

    Showing the destructive power of *one* bomb wasn`t enough. They didn`t surrender even then, they just became more determined, they were training grade schoolers to defend the homeland much like Hitler was by scraping the bottom of the barrel back in Europe drafting boys and old men to fight a last stand against Uncle Joe in Berlin.

    And it cost the Red Army dearly to take Berlin, imagine how much worse the entire country of Japan would`ve been if *Berlin* was that hard.

    No, go read on the subject. They were ready to surrender with a few conditions. The USA didn`t like the conditions, so they bombed them again.

    Ohhh good! An IAB fight. Can I get in? Here I come! Canoas, the use of the atomic bomb saved millions of lives, Japanese included. American troops were dying every day and the US was in no mood to lose more than necessary to the Japanese. Given the time it takes to construct one, there was no incentive to start with anything other than a strong demonstration. Do you think the Chinese or Vietnamese or Burmese or Koreans or Russians or anyone else objected to the decimation of a Japanese city. In the abstract calculus of war, it was a not a complex moral decision. Sad, but true.

    @earplay
    are you serious? You had at least 3 bombs and only used 2. Please explain why there was a need to start with "a strong demonstration"? The US had more than enough a-bombs for a proper bombing IF NEEDED. It was not a complex moral decision at all, it was a pretty simple one and the USA drated it up.

    No sweetie pie, it talks about how the allied powers, the *UK* included were all cool with the general plan of action. And about how we were gonna have the both of you, Russia and the UK come charging right on in with us if we decided to invade. (More`s the merrier).

    And how certain Japanese civilian elements may have tried to "send out peace feelers through the Russians" but civilians were not in control of the government, the military was and so we had to deal with them.

    Laziness wins you no favors here dearie. (And we only had 2 atomic bombs, Little Boy and Fat Man.)

    I guess I really am gonna have to hold your hand throughout this whole shebang.

    Here we go: "The allies had excellent cryptographic intelligence indicating the Japanese military were rapidly building up their defenses in areas targeted for allied invasion...They correctly judged the military were still firmly in control and determined to fight on rather than accept unconditional surrender."

    All this before the 1st bombing at Hiroshima (Nagasaki was after). You don`t even have the correct timeline. There was no surrender of any type offered between those bombings either.

    You can`t even remember how many bombs we had let alone even the correct timeline of events that actually happened in real life.

    Lie down before you hurt yourself.

    You continue to argue for something not even present in the historical record.

    And you ignore that not only were many American, British, and Russian lives spared by the bomb but many Japanese lives as well.

    I`ve already said war is hell, nobody wants killing if it can be avoided. But you make the best decision you can and more to the point you make the decision to win. End of story.

    Yep, and do you know why those areas were targeted for allied invasion? Because they were the best areas to invade, it wasn`t just the allies who wanted to invade Japan. If Japan surrendered to the allies there was no guarantee that they wouldn`t be invaded by the Russians. Dropping more bombs only showed that not accepting the allies` ultimatum would end up being worse than a Russian invasion.
