Yes, they are. By people like you. It`s not necessary and it doesn`t justify itself no matter how much you pretend it does.

So, racism against whites is `life happens for a reason` but racism against blacks you will scream about to high-heaven?

Congratulations markust...you`re racist.

"What? Like being passed over for promotion because some less qualified, less experienced black woman with less seniority got the job due to Affirmative Action? Or maybe all the scholarships you cannot apply for because you are white, not "a person of color". Or perhaps you refer to the zero interest {sometimes no interest} gov`ment loans to start your own business if you`re white... oh, wait, those are only for "people of color"."

Oh boo hoo. When I was in the last quarter of training back in 1990 Boeing came in and interviewed a bunch of us. The minorities got all the the jobs. But you know what, I got a better job a few months later. Life happens for a reason. I`m not going to sit around and be the victim. I`m going to stay positive so that positive things will happen to me.

klaxor-"so he thinks that he`s not a racist. "

Pointing out the fact that a good portion of a particular demographic dress in a certain fashion and tend to have really dumbass ways of spelling names is not `racist`.

It is telling the truth.

While I do know a few whites that decided to name their children `Delorean` and such, it`s simple fact that if you look at the name `Octavius` (yes, I met this girl) 95% of the population will know immediatly what her skin-color is. (and the other 5% will know, too, but will delude themselves into `well, let`s not stereotype`)

(and I also consider a white parent naming a child `Delorean` to be an idiot, as would a person naming a redheaded childe `Rusty` when their last name is `Hair`.)

Of course, these days telling the truth IS `racist`.

"All you can see is the "races" that you believe exist (free clue - they don`t really exist). "

- Fine, if you don`t want to use the word Racism we can instead use Prejudice. The fact still stands, here in the US, people are still judged based off of the color of their skin. It`s not always a direct judgment, eg. "I HATE THAT BLACK MAN", so people don`t think they`re prejudiced/racist.

Drawman`s comment is a perfect example:
"Maybe if these "people of color" (is that this weeks PC term?) pulled their jeans up and covered their ass and stopped spelling their own names like Aireeeka"

He doesn`t say they`re to blame BECAUSE they`re "people of color", so he thinks that he`s not a racist.

White is a color. See, I run circles around you logically. And hey, people claim all kinds of crazy things about me and my race and age and gender and faith that I think are completely untrue, so, reverse racism seems pretty alive and well, don`t you think?

You provide a perfect example of how the position you favour requires extreme racism.

You are so racist that you can`t even tell the difference between people who are alive and people who are dead, let alone between different individuals in different circumstances. All you can see is the "races" that you believe exist (free clue - they don`t really exist).

You`ve got two basic choices. Either you think that people should not be discriminated against based solely on what some people decide is "race" or you think that all people of any "wrong" "race" should be discriminated against. You`ve chosen the second option. You`ve also chosen to be dishonest and hypocritical about it, which is to be expected from someone so racis

markust123-" I also understand the opportunities that being white has given me in life."

And I also understand the opportunities that being white has hindered me to.

I once interviewed for a job as a Chemical Operator at a petroleum plant. The four finalists were:
Me (white/male): 15 years experience working in chemical plants.
Joe (black/male): 5 years experience as custodial worker in chemical plants.
Pam (white/female): 6 years experience as a nurse in a chemical plant.
LaShayshawndra (black/female): Exact quote, "I ain`t never set foot in a plant in all my life."

Care to guess who got the job. ("Folks, looks like LaShaysahwndra is a DOUBLE-MINORITY!!! We got ourselves a winner.")

So? China has a long history of favoring Asian people, Egypt has a long history of favoring Arab people. Mexico has a long history of favoring Hispanic people. Congo has a long history of favoring black people.

The point is, you don`t build a civilization by being favored by other people. You do it yourselves if not in spite of other people.

Well, we have a black president now. He`s the most powerful man in the world. I think that proves it is high time we dismantle all the social programs that favor minorities.

Oh wait... that`s how he got there.

Gerry, the fact that people think of it as a "myth" is part of the problem. It`s part of the institution and society, as it`s always been, and people blindly accept it.

Like I said, 200 years of having the ENTIRE system in your favor gives you A HUGE leg up, whether it`s based on where you grew up, your families` education/wealth, or how society perceives you at first glance.

Now that being a racist douche isn`t chique anymore, you say, "alright, we`re all equal now"

Only the Democrats are racist enough to put together an organisation like the KKK, and they approve of direct racism against whites while they harm the prospects of blacks and hispanics. This is how they get most votes: stir up racial tensions, make some surface preference for non-whites, but make sure you keep as many as possible poor, because if they have independence they might vote Republican.

Although it was a racist stance by the principal, maybe it was needed. Hell, where I live, 9% of males "of color" graduate high school. Yes, 9% while the graduation rates for the rest of the demographics are over 85 %.

Maybe if these "people of color" (is that this weeks PC term?) pulled their jeans up and covered their ass and stopped spelling their own names like Aireeeka, and acting like the big I am and paid attention and put a little effort in instead of lying back, smoking dope and hoping da man gave them a job to keep his PC numbers balanced rather than being able to give the job to the best candidate, that 9% figure would be a thing of the past and not whitey`s fault.

I worked hard to get to where I am today but I also understand the opportunities that being white has given me in life. America has a long history of favoring white people. Over the last half century the country is slowly working out of that mind set but we`re not there yet like people are pretending we are. Just because of dumb-ass luck of where and to who I was born I am not going to take that for granted. Is it too much to ask for people to put themselves in another persons shoes? I get so sic of the racists, bigots and xenophobes on this site. If you remove our skin we are all equally hideous.

It`s a huge double standard. If a white principal pulled this stunt and offered the program to only white students, this would be the scandal of the decade, and we`d all be hearing from Rev`s Al and Jesse. Where are they now ? But since the situation is in realtion to persons of color, they get a pass ? Bullsh*t. Time has come that they too should be held to the same standards for race relations.

In all fairness, i think this perfectly illustrates the reasoning behind why people have employed the term `reverse racism` - technically superfluous as it may be, it accounts for the double-standard in how society responds based on WHICH race is involved that this term was conceived to illustrate.

This is racism; however, the principal may just be oblivious to how wrong he chose to attack the problem. He should have set up a program where only those below a certain GPA, grade, test score (whatever system of measurement they use) could attend. This would include many minority students and circumvent the issue of race. Secondly, this sort of thing happens all the time, but if caucasians mention it the words "bigot" and "racist" are instantly used. When applying to medical school, I was granted a peek to the system they use for application and acceptance. There is an unsaid "minority quota" that they must fill in order to acquire certain funds...now in the rhetoric terms of race are not used, it more refers to socioeconomic status but the committees accepting applicants understand the facade. If you`re a hispanic/black woman that can read and hold a 3.1GPA (ridiculous), welcome to med school! Academic merit (or in this case, ineptitude) should b

Markust... that is the dumbest statement i think i`ve ever read. Did you ever think about the fact that these programs that exclude a certain group (whether they `will be just fine in life` or not) are still EXCLUDING A CERTAIN GROUP. They are excluding a group based on their skin color. If it was EVER the other way around now, the entire country would be down the throats of that school. Not only would the principal get fired but probably the entire board of ed. I`m getting sick and tired of people using the term Reverse Racism. Racism is not the act of treating a minority differently, its the act of treating anybody differently based on race. And seriously, just because someone is white, doesn`t mean they will never experience bigotry. I`m white and in college, in almost every one of my classes, I was the minority. But of course this will all blow over because everybody knows, only white people can be racist... It`s perfectly ok for every body else.

Just because YOU`RE a minority due to your sexual orientation (which I don`t begrudge either - natural selection at its finest) doesn`t mean you have the obligation to come running to the rescue of every other one - they hold you in much lower regard for said persuasion, on the whole, than they will ever appreciate your eagerness to bend-over for them. Pun intended.

When`s the last time you looked for a job instead of looking up at the sun for us? g3n3r1k, that`s not `social` labeling - it`s f*cking statistical. I`m not good at math either, but damn, I`m not that bad. Don`t confuse social classification with anatomical classification - the latter comes first. There are distinct phenotypic (and genotypic) traits amongst every species that distinguish one branch from another. It`s natural. For Humans, we tend to draw our cultural adherence AROUND that, rather than the reverse, because of our tribal nature. There`s nothing wrong with that either. I agree with your premise, but please don`t blur the lines of distinction required to make your conclusion valid. It`s counter-productive to open dialogue on this subject.

The program, as the principle explained, is targeted effort to raise the grade level of students who statistically have shown learning difficulties. There is seperate funding for these programs.
The principle said on the message that if there is a room left then any student in need of help will be accepted.

The wording is a mistake and the program should be based on grade results not the `colour` of the student.
Unfortunate really because some asshat group somewhere will use this to get the funding cut for the program.

Plenty of data that show minority students score lower on tests. In addition, drop our rates among minorities are higher. Those are the facts. It has more to do with economic disparity rather than race. It an education system set to teach to the lowest common denominator with standardized testing and the smothering of creativity, a program this stupid and misguided was inevitable. I would guess the principal was trying to raise the average scores on tests by focusing resources towards groups that need it most. In the principal`s infinite wisdom, he chose to focus on race. I don`t agree with the program. It`s displays the principal`s lack of creativity and overall incompetence. Maybe the principal should stay after school for some leadership tutoring.

What could these black kids be tutored on that is specific to them? Well how about how some people will be afraid of the boys just because of the color of their skin and how they can diffuse the situation? Maybe they are being tutored on how to act when they are racially profiled and pulled over by the police. It could be they are being tutored on how to go the extra mile in a job interview to counter the racial hiring practices that still exist today. All you white people complaining about "racism" have no idea how good you have it. I didn`t even interview for my last two jobs. They just gave them to me. The last thing I would do is scream reverse racism.

What was their thinking? Black kids are dumber and need more tutoring? That doesn`t sound right.

The second racist thing is the school districts lack of response. If a white principal did this for "no students of color allowed" he`d be intantly fired and then sued by the parents for violating their childs civil liberties.
