Is it really too much to ask citizens to put up with some minor inconveniences to do our part to make the USA more safe? People b!tch when things go wrong but then they also b!tch about being inconvenienced. You can`t have it both ways. All this video proves is that if you be a pr!ck long enough, people who are supposed to protect us let you get away with things and THAT is what I think is dangerous.

That was actually pretty funny. Know your rights people. These cops get away with this crap so often they start to forget we have the right to say no. It may be simpler to just do as they ask. It`s tempting to just comply. To be honest, I would probably comply. Once you forgo your rights, history shows they aren`t easily regained.

These people are always so obstinate and annoying in trying to prove their point.

Yes, you have your rights. Exercise them. Don`t post a smug self-righteous video about it on youtube.

and can you please never ever say "I thought this was AmeriCUH."

"These people are always so obstinate and annoying in trying to prove their point. "

But when you prove your point on IAB it`s not smug or self-righteous at all.

If this was just a checkpoint WITHIN the U.S., I see their point....If however these are actual border crossings, f*ck them, you don`t get in until you answer, just like everyone else has to. Either way, I hate officious little a**holes that pull this sh*t.

A lot of people complain about the police overstepping their power, but this video sums up the grey area of that.

I took law enforcement classes. I was actually hoping to be a cop once, before I had a pretty severe hernia. One of the first things they teach you is how to phrase questions. You can`t reach into someone`s pockets looking for drugs. You can kinda poke it from the outside, ask a couple questions that kind of sound vaguely demanding, and more often than not they will just fess up whether they have something illegal or not. It`s simple psychology, and kind of a jerk move... but not technically an abuse of power.

Though, that was 2 decades ago now. A lot of laws have changed, I`m sure, but I`m not sure how much for traffic cops.

These look like immigration checkpoints in the US, not border crossings.

"and can you please never ever say "I thought this was AmeriCUH.""

The reason these guys got off so easily was b/c of their righteous American indignation. These guys were NEXT to the border, not on it.

If you`re a citizen, and you`ve done nothing wrong, then you should have the right to travel freely and unimpeded in the US, as well as say FU to DHS.

Good for them. People who are online here calling them idiots, remember that it`s their resistance that`s `helping` prevent a police state where you would have to show your papers at a checkpoint just to go to the grocery store.

I am not a US citizen, but the principle here applies all over. If you permit ANY official to overstep their authority by so much as a gesture, you are allowing your freedoms to be eroded by popular consent. The ONLY way to ensure that your freedoms as a citizen on any state is to insist that the authorities don`t overstep the mark, For their protection as much as yours.

The first guy ( because that`s all I could watch)was asked if he was American or what nationality he was , he refused to answer. right there he has given up his right as an american citizen, which he did not state he was,to complain about violation of his other rights.

@pumba - your comment is so full of fail. The right not to answer does not allow for the loss of that right. These are warrantless stops, unreasonable, and just the govt overstepping boundaries.

If you think doing this kind of thing is somehow preserving our freedoms, you`re an idiot. All it accomplished is the border agents have a pr!ck to joke about when they go on break. I`m sure the self-important jerk who did this patted himself on the back and is getting pats by people who feel similarly but it was just as productive as masturbation is to producing a baby. If you really want to preserve freedoms, get involved in politics in a meaningful way.

lauriloo - These were not border checkpoints. These are checkpoints inside the U.S.A. Some of the guys making the video have to pass thru a few of these checkpoints everyday on their commute to and from work inside the US. Some of these officers don`t even realize they are overstepping their authority because NO ONE EVER CHALLENGES THEM. Most people comply with the searches because they don`t realize they have the right to say no. Informing people of their rights does not make them an idiot. Expecting people to give up their rights without a fight is idiotic.

@Lauriloo - you`re right. Hey we should make it easier for DHS. Those guys need a break

Hey, I Know! we should all wear ID armbands so that they know who is a citizen and who isn`t. It`ll be real fun. Americans can have and eagle and the Israelis can have a star of david. But no mexicans, b/c f.ck them

If you want to do something about illegals secure the boarder. Build a fence. Deport people. Hold those employing them under the table accountable etc.

You don`t set up illegal road blocks and detain random citizens. It`s not up to me to prove I`m not here illegally when I`ve given an officer no cause to think otherwise.

Protest and refuse long enough and they let you go. What`s to stop an illegal from doing the same thing?

`Hold those employing them under the table accountable`

That`s not going to happen, though, is it? A few small fry for show maybe, but there are too many people with serious mainstream clout who profit one way or another from the vulnerabilty of illegal labour and the cost savings that result.

So put on a show and swagger around and talk really seriously about how you understand voters concerns. Get some cameras showing deportees and set up check points and be very visible.

Meanwhile, whether in the US or in western Europe, a small but dominant part of society is doing very nicely out of having an unentitled, below minimum-wage, irregulated, instantly disposable work force who in some cases can`t even send their kids to school.

Of course there is a fall out from that. But it is not felt by the people who matter. They are nicely tucked away and should by now have learned to be sure that the nanny is legal.

Once you get to about a decade`s experience in logistics you can bust the CA/US border quite easily anyway, and it wouldn`t be hard with that intimate level of knowledge to stick an oil drum sized nuke (or dirty bomb) within a bloke of the whitehouse. I`m just stating that as an industry professional. That border is just far too long to be solidly tight.

However, the customs and TSA guys are sworn to prevent that, and (as a non N American) I think they do a fabulous job. This guy is an idiot for stretching the rules. Being an American grants many freedoms, but the freedom to enter your own country isn`t one of them in the 21st century. Even with an American passport, hell, an American accent, recent past events have shown that that`s not enough on its own to prove you`re not a terrorist. Hence the treatment he got.

Some of you seem to have missed the point that these aren`t border stops. They are stops within the US. Of course I expect to show credentials upon entering any country.
