gothmo: I just find gay-baiting and race-baiting insidious, especially for a stupid TV show. That and fake drama (this show) is even dumber than real drama (Jerry Springer).

`Said it before and it is worth repeating. Most people are nice and decent- no matter what their religion. can we stop getting hung up on the religious bit and concentrate on behaviour.`

@CrakrJak

It`s not like they didn`t admit to the fact that that was still only half of the people that stood up (way less in NY), or didn`t show the guy praising the waitress for kicking them out... That wasn`t what they wanted you to see but felt necessary to show, so I guess that sorta invalidates your point right there... The whole point was that, in general, people in Texas are more accepting than we think. This isn`t about politics either, this is about people being decent human beings and standing up for each other which people should do in any party anyway.

On another note, for their "more liberal" state they picked one that also has a reputation for not giving a poo about what`s going on around them. The more accepting side of me thinks this is incredibly sweet, especially that note, but the stats student side of me thinks that this is far from a good sampling of the population >>

CrakrJak - Even still, I know a few Texans, who say that the place is fairly Christian and isn`t accepting of other views. I`m sure that wasn`t the case in all of Texas, and there are nice people there, so it`s nice to see at least some people who will stick up for others. Even if they don`t share the same views.

Some background is necessary here.

This a TV show looking for people`s reactions.
The waitress is an actor, the `gay` couple and kids are actors. And of course only the reactions that the show producers want depict get aired, the rest are left on the cutting room floor.

These "What would you do?" shows are total BS.
They roll the dice for several days on these `shoots` to get what they want, which is either a confrontation or something controversial.

These producer contrived `reality` shows are nothing more than liberal brainwashing.

As an ex-liberal I know why.

I have to say I am pleasantly surprised as well. Course the other patrons would probably think they`re just friends helping parents short on parenting time. Still, I chose not to eat at Chick-Fil-A after I heard about their donations to WynShape (which they`ve stopped actually). I certainly wouldn`t eat at this restaurant if the waiter`s being such an ass.

rat- no, you are!! man, this is getting really intellectual now! Why not record a homeless guy in a Nordstrom? Or a black guy in the middle of a trailer park in Mississippi? Let`s just exploit every negative stigma (redundant?) we can find just so people will watch it on tv?

Texans are some of the loveliest people in the country from my experience (second to Wisconsinites - I`m biased).

I`ve never been able to understand why they get the bad reputation they do... The men there have far more manners than those in New York - where I was raised.

i have to say that i am more then just pleasently surprised that people stand up and voice their concerns against judging behaviour.

and at the same time i am humbled, humbled indeed, for i had not anticipated that this would happen in texas.

I am proven wrong, in a great way.

"Commonly used discriminatory remarks."

That`s where I hate this show. This host thinks that enough people out there actually BLATANTLY demonstrate such hostitlity (I`ve seen the actual show) that this is an accurate depiction of it. He`s waaaay off-base.

chicagojay - I dunno what the South side of Chicago is like, but 10 years ago I went for a wander around Haarlem about 8pm one Tuesday night. I wanted to go to the Apollo Theatre, but it was shut for renovations. So I went for a wander. I found a starbucks, and popped in for a hot chocolate. Cue raised eyebrows when I walked in and outright concern as soon as I opened my mouth and they realised I was a Brit. Several ppl offered to escort me back to the subway for my own safety, which I thought was seriously OTT, but they were pretty insistent...

Next, hook up a cam to a white guy and have him walk around the south side of Chicago. Also, a black guy in....? Someplace. I just know the areas I will (and have been) beaten, robbed, harassed etc. So, to the Homophobes, stop! To the racists on the south side of Chicago (and that other place), Stop! To jerks everywhere, stop!
