It used to involve getting dressed up. Not so much anymore. Hey don"t judge me, times are hard.

@OldOllie - Couldn`t agree more. Maybe it was a good model, back when the only way to see a movie was going to the cinema but not these days. Like an awful lot of entertainment ventures, it`s an outdated and overpriced business plan.

freddyferret, Movie hopping is not unheard of, its been done by a few folks including myself. Also @spanerbulb, my face is not a f*cking fat one, but I do enjoy some candy and snacks during a movie and I do not enjoy paying the ridiculous prices of the movie theaters here in the US

I don`t buy food and drinks in theatres, ever. But that is also because they only sell crap stuff like soda and candy. I would totally buy a plate of good iskender end a refreshing kinnie!

...except selling it at a reasonable price. This is simple economics. I you`re selling popcorn for a penny a bushel you won`t make any money because it costs you more than that. If your selling popcorn for $100 per gram, you won`t make any money because nobody will buy any. Somewhere in between is the price that will produce the most profit. Charging any more or less will result in lower profit. I am thoroughly convinced that movie theater prices are WAY on the high side of this optimum price.

It`s one reason I haven`t been to a theater in 10 years -- that and all the people who won`t STFU, and the smell of the crowd, and the fact that I can`t pause the movie to get something to eat or drink or to take a piss, and I have to use ear plugs because they crank the goddamned sound up way, way, WAY to loud.

I`ve done this my whole life. I`ve also paid for one ticket and seen two or three movies. Yes, I`m the reason the economy is in the toilet.

"I`ve brought in even full bags of popcorn. Why do movie theatres insist on ripping people off on the drinks and food? I`d buy it if it was fairly priced, and I`m sure other people would too."

Because they don`t make money off the tickets. The vast majority of the ticket price goes to the movie maker. Food is the source of profit for the theaters. My nephew used to manage food services for a major theater chain and they were trying all sorts of things to make the food more appealing, like selling more meal-type items like burgers and pizza. Some theaters were trying having tables and waiters in the theater. If enough people start smuggling in their own food, theaters will die even faster than they are already.

Fine if you want to smuggle food in but, for the love of all that`s good in the world, remove all the damn noisy wrappers BEFORE you get to the theater. I rarely go to the theater because people are so annoying but I recently saw Flight with my sis and some old dude behind us took FOREVER to noisily unwrap something he had brought in. I almost turned around and socked him one.

Gerry- they are taking out the drive-in by my house. very sad. I would cover all my car windows with garbage bags so I didn`t get lights in my eyes from people`s brats opening their car doors every 5 minutes but it was nice to have my own space and a big screen

now I have a 100" screen in my own living room and all is good in my world..

My dad did that all the time with me and my brother when we were younger. It`s not like they check bags or anything anyway, at least at the all theaters I`ve been too.

If tickets and concession stand prices weren`t such a giant rep-off, they wouldn`t have this problem.

They make their money at the concession stands, so yea, they can be a bit pissy about this. I can fit six bottle-rockets (tiny bottles of booze) in my bra without it looking too lumpy. Times is hard y`all.
