Ok but liberals must sometimes give their own money? Also, what if there is a disaster and republicans are in power, does that mean they will never allow taxes to be used to sort it out?
Confused by what a Liberal is in America - the other day people were criticising Liberals for suggesting you do things for others and contribute to society and community.
Finker, you certainly are confused. The person who suggested that we should VOLUNTARILY help others was a conservative. The liberal is the guy suggesting that we should pass laws that let the government take money from people who earn it by force and under threat of imprisonment so liberals can give give it away to their friends and supporters, like Solyndra and the ObamaPhone lady.

P.J. O`Rouark said it best: "A liberal is someone who would gladly give you the shirt off of someone else`s back."

More proof that things are basically the same as they`ve always been.

I prefer the speech from Guess Who`s COming to DInner which says that your parents decided to bring you into the world and therefore they actually do owe you something.

"You listen to me. You say you don`t want to tell me how to live my life. So what do you think you`ve been doing? You tell me what rights I`ve got or haven`t got, and what I owe to you for what you`ve done for me. Let me tell you something. I owe you nothing! If you carried that bag a million miles, you did what you`re supposed to do! Because you brought me into this world. And from that day you owed me everything you could ever do for me like I will owe my son if I ever have another. But you don`t own me! You can`t tell me when or where I`m out of line, or try to get me to live my life according to your rules. You don`t even know what I am, Dad, you don`t know who I am. You don`t know how I feel, what I think. And if I tried to explain it the rest of your life you will never understand. You are 30 years

Lol, what a self-righteous ass. Pretty rich too coming from the generations of squandering.

I owe the world about jack & poo. That`s what tax is for. You can`t even die for free.

Obama didn`t write that speech.

The last paragraph was cut out, "You`re a cog in the machine, a worker who needs to be mindless and never think for itself. Do what you`re told, and never have fun."

Every generation is a disappointment to the previous one - except maybe the generation that went through WW2. (OK, mum?)

But this was bad advice. Visit the sick? When I`m sick the last thing I want is a visit from a bloody teenager.

as far as I can tell, a liberal is anyone who a republican disagrees with. A republican is anyone a liberal disagrees with.

Actual content of the opinion is immaterial when you can blame something on "the other guy".

oh god, don`t let the liberal democrats see this, they would do everything in their power to sue whoever wrote and printed this.

Presenting it this way guarantees that the advice won`t be listened to. Becoming a responsible adult is something you have to learn through experience. A few nudges in the right direction can help, and some conversations at crucial points...but in the end it will either click for them, or it won`t.

And after that there`s not much you can do to change them.

@ Bremir - no I won`t call you "immoral". It is a moral obligation to your community to give-back but the fact you do not grasp that isn`t "immoral", it`s just sadly ignorant.

Bless your heart.

Judging from the results of the last election, I`d say a slight majority of people have failed to grasp these concepts.

"But it`s not my "moral obligation" to line the pockets of people who do things I never asked them to do. "
You live in a society that decided that you were going to get everything you needed to become a productive human being as an adult, not because society gives a crap about your happiness but because it`s your responsibility to continue to improve the lives of the rest of the human race in the same way yours was improved by those who came before you. If you choose not to become a productive adult, and you choose to become a burden on society, you decided that you`re going to be happy and healthy at the expense of the human race. You could choose to be miserable and starving, or a productive person, if you care about the human race at all. You could also choose to be a selfish entitled jerk if you`re OK with being a cancer on society.

This is kind of stupid. You can`t build a raft, get a job, or learn to cook without studying, so that`s all just a redundant way of saying "study more," which is of course another of his options given. Basically he`s saying that bored kids need to study more and do more chores. Pretty much the only possibly entertaining thing he says is build a raft, which is pointless if you don`t live anywhere near a public river or pond, like most city kids, and also kind of crappy if it`s 10 degrees out. You can also read for hours, which is never going to burn off any physical energy, and isn`t much more productive than watching TV for hours on end.
I do agree any kids who are turning criminal out of boredom should find something productive to do instead, but he sure didn`t list anything they could do for entertainment.

The current generation in high school and recent grads are the worst generation ever.

Sorry Liindsayy, as someone who taught high school for 30 years I`ve seen a marked change in students. I`m amazed at how immature and narcissistic they`ve (not you personally) have become.
In some ways it`s not their fault, their parents and teachers were obsessed with self esteem. Simultaneously our media became celebrity obsessed and reality TV severely lowered the threshold for celebrity.

This doesnt just apply to today`s youth, it applies to ALL youth. I hate that people keep bashing our generation when in reality, every generation just looks down on the one that comes after it.

Andrew155 - To be fair, I never asked to be born. As far as I am concerned, no I don`t owe the world anything at all. I`m not to blame that people decided to use these "finite" resources to give us power and heating, I never asked them to do that.

As far as it being my moral obligation? Bull. Hey, you can go ahead and call me immoral of you want. But it`s not my "moral obligation" to line the pockets of people who do things I never asked them to do.

You can owe yourself a living and owe the world something at the same time, dontchya know.

Why do you owe the world something. Using up all that tax money, using up a finite amount of resources the world has. It`s a moral obligation.

... and then instead of doing any of those "up his own butt" suggestions... the teenagers to out, form gangs with one and other, then start to battle each other for imaginary control. One of the worse teens introduce drugs into that environment, and then we have a atmosphere of death & addiction formed. Thanks judge!
