A great leap forward for instructors. A leap backwards for students.

Wow, next will be auto-inflating stone wheels.

The projector/interactive/whiteboard thingies at my kids` school is amazing. First time their teacher showed it to me in action at open house, "oh I SO want one for home!" It turns the entire white board into a touch-screen computer, can use markers, pointers or whatever to interact ... it`s unreal.

... or, sure, you could go with the electronically eraseable "CHALKboard". <.<

seems like a smart board would be just as expensive and way more effective

Oops...forgot to mention... a lot of tech companies including 3M and Apple donate these technologies to schools, so we shouldn`t presume that that the school paid for this. Also, we can`t presume that the school is public.

This technology does more than just erase the board. It also records the information that it erases and can reproduce it. Some can print it on paper, others can reproduce it directly on the whiteboard. It can be incredibly helpful for students who want copies of the board to study.

@freddyferret, over 9000 posts on I-A-B yet all I ever see is you having a dig at fancy. Don`t you think you might be happier on another site?
I`ve never heard of this "First rule" either.

Twenty-eighth.

The site is in total crap mode today, I am getting server errors every other time I try to load something. It`s a great start to the new year. We`d expect nothing less from fancy.

@Elevill
the mods ban folk who put `first` up due to a
time when any post which was put up it was hammered with people just saying `first`
Its silly and annoying, but to be fair you did follow up with a comment

Got a feeling fancy might know about server times mate
But as with you I had a `server error`
it happens from time to time, just go back and reload. I have no beef with that

Crap. I invented this when I was 12 and our teacher wanted us to come up with an invention, illustrate it, and describe it. I got a crummy mark for it as I recall. 46 years later, here it is.

Hello Fancylad,
about your wishes for 2013 and server response time:

"Server Error

The server encountered an internal error and was unable to complete your request.
Could not connect to JRun Server."

Happy new year nevertheless and continue your fine work.

Oh, by the way, the more ads you include, the slower your server response time and the higher your income...
If i were you, i would write a nice note on 1.1.2013 and take the money.

Twentieth.

Seriously, though, I actually didn`t even know about that rule. And I`ve been registered on this site since 2005. And to say the comment is taking up space or that it is childish seems kind of exaggerated, we`ve all seen plenty more useless and stupid posts here. Like this one for instance, completely irrelevant.

To those that got their tightie-whities in a bunch over my typing "First". Get over it, really, it`s a word. Deal with it. Secondly, It`s the FIRST time I have ever responded with it -and- the first time I made the first post. Ever. Next, I was not aware of any such rule...and honestly, it`s seems trite and immature; just like the hater comments that followed it. I would also like to add that it was followed by a relevant comment to the post. If you`re going to get thrown into a nerd rage over the word first preceding an actual comment, I would urge you to disconnect your computer from the internet. If I feel the all mighty wrath of the "banhammer" for typing "the word that shall not be named", so be it. I`m sure I`ll find some way to persevere through those trying times.

I work at a company with dry erase boards used nearly daily. In the decade I have been there, they seem to still be functional. Maybe get some 3M modified stuff instead of office depot. Or...spend money on this. Unless it scans. Don`t have all the facts.

It looks like it might scan what had been written before it cleans the board. But even if that is the case, I don`t think the nostalgia is worth the price tag when you could buy a SMARTboard for the same price...

Kind of a waste of technology. It`s like making a cyborg horse to pull your wagon instead of just building a car.

That`s incredably lazy.
Unles it gathers up the chalk dust and compresses it, then spits out a newly recycle stick of chalk.

1 cent chalk from a $12,000 machine

@Elevill: we don`t play that game here. You`re setting yourself up for a swift ban.

Dry erase gets just as dirty, or worse. It leaves all the marker residue, until there`s a purplish hue to the whole board that you need to clean off with windex.

And to comment on the photo itself: How utterly lazy can a person get?

Maybe it scans in front of it`s eraser? Seems like a waste of technology otherwise.

On a related note: I want a smartboard!
