HalfPintRoo
Tis true
only yesterday I was having a coffee and a custard cream biscuit chatting with a snowdrop
and he informed me that life is harsh,
Born in the cold months only to peg it when it gets warmer
He was quite negative, I gave him a mug of tomato soup, but he declined it

A bird of paradise was wispering over my shoulder just now, she said, `hook me up with 5cats`. I swear, Cats, that`s what she said. Funny thing, here on Madeira Island the bird of paradise cry at night...for real!

@McThstlpnts & @HalfPintRoo: It`s been known for decades that plants communicate with one another. Just how much and what is said? That`s open to debate!
But at minimum, plants not only communicate but HELP others of the same species.

Mother Nature = Amazing, eh?

"crying" is a human interpritation. As @r66tramp points out. What the plant/animal is doing and our "human view" of it are two different things.

But it`s absolutely certain, plants communicate.

Drop a fresh ocean lobster into a boiling pot of water! Same poo but different. As the water boils the fluids trapped in the lobsters shell...like a whistle `can` go off. Out east in Nova Scotia where I grew up as a kid, the `men` said the lobster was crying. Not good when you are a small child but old folks are fecked off in the head anyway you slice `em.

Do plants really cry for help?

can someone please tell me it`s not true? I work with plants and already have dreams of them needing watered. I don`t need dreams with them crying.

Furthermore, you can actually here grass grow! You need to be deep in a forest at night in the right season(spring helps) and you can hear it. It you are in a fertile field of hay deep in the boonies, you can hear it popping from the earth. These are key sounds to life if you IMB folks have never heard them. Seek these climate and places out, it is amazing to hear green things grow! The first time I heard fiddle-heads growing in a forrest at night, I thought it was critters crawling :-)

McThstlpnts, as plants dry out, their wet inner vessels of tubes dry and whistle. It happens around the world in many climates. What once held drops of water dries, then the membrance is squished as the entire shroud retracts in dryness sometimes letting out a push of air that may or may not, make a sound. Pay attention in school, I learned that poop when I was 16.

I honestly find the crying plants to be the most interesting tidbit...where is the study/research to back this claim?

"Archaeological ruins and ancient texts show that handshaking was practiced in ancient Greece as far back as the 5th century BC; a depiction of two soldiers shaking hands can be found on part of a 5th century BC funerary stele on display in the Pergamon Museum, Berlin ... The handshake is thought by some to have originated as a gesture of peace by demonstrating that the hand holds no weapon."

So while it was present before handguns..the meaning is still the same.

"5Cats! `The Bible" is far worse than this crap. Not a good reference, in my book "

so you`re claiming that the part in the bible where someone shakes hands is false? What is your point exactly?

These things are wacky. "Starfish have no brain"
Nor do 1/3 of the humans that walk the Earth!

"The atronaut blew out some poop in space?" How many have not? Gimme a break.

"If you walk and talk bla bla...synchronize steps EVENTUALLY" Well eventually anything will happen in time?

"Handshake" OMG!

Jesus! What a pile of donkey slippers.

The whole "shaking hands is to show that you are unarmed" is not true. People have been shaking hands all over the world for thousands of years.
It seems to be something humans instinctively do to socialize. Proof of this is that when French film makers met a previously totally isolated tribe, the tripe shook hands with them to prove that they weren`t hostile.

I hope the GOP and the Christian radicals don`t catch on to the interesting tidbit about oysters- they`ll introduce legislation to take away their choice too.

1:35: Um, no? It was around for thousands of years before guns.

The Bible has King Solomon`s assassin: he was shaking hands with a fat dude, then stabbing him to death (he was left-handed, eh?).

Showing an "open hand" is highly cross-cultural as a friendly gesture.

-A distributed neural system is not the lack of. Chickens are partially the same way.

-Handshakes definitely existed before handguns.
