Behold The Future Of Tires

If these results from a design competition are any indication as to what is coming...it"s quite impressive.

Yeah none of these sound practical or safe lol. The first one seems more realistic but also unnecessary for most vehicles or conditions I`d say.

Nice simulation. But that`s all.

Well except for the first one (similar tires are used on a concept V8 motorcycle that works) the rest wouldn`t. The magnetic ones would be insane to generate that much force without shielding and if your engine cut out. The off road tires are too soft to corner. The e-tire would have so little contact with the road that unless you had perfect driving conditions, you`re driving on ice skates.

Neat concept, but that`s it.

the magnetic ones seem impossible because what is keeping them on while lateral force is applied? you figure they would just fly right off at the first turn

I still like the airless tires.

Yea! I SOOO want tires with multiple moving parts and hundreds of additional potential points of failure.

Like to see those tyres on touring cars going round Knock hill on a rainy day just to see how they perform

Why don`t we just pave the roads with rubber so we can run on concrete tires?

So glad we got rid of all those pesky trees in the future.

Yeah, I can`t see the magnetic field one working.

"Looks like you`re gonna need a couple new tires here, Mr. Barnk."
"What`s that going to run me?"
"Oh, `bout $30,000."

What would be the point of a speed bump if you`re just going to dash right over it as if it weren`t there?

-- fundamental rule of engineering or porn, I can never remember which it is.

Hopefully it doesn`t happen at highway speeds.

I really hope they have a way of resurfacing them or something like that, because I don`t want to have to buy brand new wheels every time my tread wears out.

One thing... How many of your would trust a simple magnetic field to hold your wheel on as you get up to highway speeds?
