When breastfeeding my daughter I try to be discreet in public. People always use that as a fix-all for the weirdos who are offended by the reality of being a mammal (USE A BLANKET SICKO!!! BLAHHH). Well, my daughter wouldn`t have this. I would put the blanket over us and she would find it hilarious to pull it back and play peek-a-boo. Often in the summer it would be too hot and stuffy to throw a blanket over her.

In short, just look away if you can`t handle reality.

Other people may have different experiences, but I usually find that the mom tends to be more offended, especially when I get to see their boob. You want to pull it out in public, hey that`s cool with me, just don`t expect privacy when you do it across from me on the bus, my eyes have a mind of their own.

This isn`t a bad word or smelly bodily function, this is a woman feeding her child in the best way one can. They`re already discreet about it, and most of the time you can`t see much more than when someone wears a low cut shirt or something... It`s hard enough to take care of a child, why should they be exiled to some quiet corner of somewhere just to feed them? Crap I`ve never had kids (nor want them) and I know how annoying it can be.

I do like the idea of those breastfeeding capes though, they`re not practical sometimes but it allows a mother to breastfeed and the prudes don`t get mad.

My wife breastfed both of our kids and at first I was a bit uncomfortable about public feedings, but the health benefits to the child soon made me an avid defender of it. There is no equivalent. And when a kid`s hungry, a kid`s hungry. Would you rather have a kid screaming of hunger in public or an unlikely chance at a glance of a naked boob. It`s not easy to be discrete but my wife soon got very good at it. After awhile she just looked like she was holding a baby, not breastfeeding one. The coordination of it isn`t easy so give women a break. And no, women should not be required to go into a filthy bathroom or closet or whatever to hide it. They don`t need to take their top completely off and flaunt it but there`s absolutely no reason to be ashamed or covert about it. Just politely discrete. But regardless, the kid`s hunger and the mother`s choice to breastfeed outranks any and every one`s hangup about seeing it.

And I would never make a kid wear that. It`s just for provocation. Lady, come on... you are better than that. Spare yourself the useless confrontation. You don`t sleep enough to waste energy on this.

@Jabman23.

I don`t know if you ever had kids. It`s already a whole adventure to take them anywhere. Often you have the others siblings to look after as well. "Hiding" to breast feed is not always a possibility. I think it would just be courteous of the few is actually offend to just look in another direction, don`t you think?

I see a trend. Reposts on IAM appear at the same time as reposts on Reddit. The recycling is very efficient.

@ LillianDulci It`s sad that the law isn`t for public safety but due to being classified as obscene behavior. With as messed up as sex offender status is it would suck if a women was on the list because she breastfeed illegally.

About ten years ago there was a lady who would ride her bike around topless. It became such a normal event that everyone just stopped looking. Until one day the police stopped her and gave her a warning. From then on she just wore pasties and was never stopped again.

So it isn`t the boob that is bad it`s the nipple?! Whaaaaaa?

"Anyone who is offended by public breast-feeding is an extremely insecure person".

No. No they`re not. Some people are comfortable with some things, others are not. Breast-feeding is just one of those things. Instead of women getting all up in arms about it they just need to stop and and show a bit of understanding. Go to a place a bit more discreet and breastfeed. Is that such a back-breaking courtesy?

In reality, we all make some lee way for certain people. Ex: Not using offensive language around certain races, elders, females, kids. You talk quiet in a library. You don`t wear a certain shirt out in public. We even try not to fart around certain people. We do these things because we don`t want to offend the people around us. We understand that some people may not be comfortable with some of our behaviours, so we modify them. Can mothers not extend us the same courtesy?

What`s offensive about breastfeeding? I have seen women who seem to want to make a show of it, popping out a boob in public and then clamping their kid on. Others are more discrete. Either way, it doesn`t affect my life in the slightest.

"no one is offended by a breast feeding mother. "

There are plenty who are, actually. There`s still states in the US where it`s legal to remove a breastfeeding mother for breastfeeding because it`s "offensive". There`s still places in the US that require breastfeeding mothers to sit in the bathroom if they are feeding their child. There are still people in the US who bitch and moan about seeing someone breastfeed in public, or without something to cover up the offensive act of... a child eating in the most natural and healthy way possible.
