    Kain1-"They really butchered the franchise.."

I`d have to dissagree. I`m a trekkie from way back, and I rather enjoy the new ones.

Looks good so far. I loved the reboot movie.

@Kain1 In what way do you think they butchered the franchise?

I`m not saying they`re bad movies. They just don`t resemble the old series AT ALL. Apart from the title and the names of the characters.
Although i am a die hard trekkie, i wouldn`t mind if they changed it up a bit, modernized it, whatever, as long as they stayed a little bit true to the original franchise. But to me it seems like they just slapped the Star Trek trademark on an otherwise okay sci-fi movie, to make it sell more. That breaks my heart.

So the new footage looks like some sort of reference to the end of Star Trek IV. I really didn`t like the first Abrams movie. It felt like caricature. It seems like their solution to "reinvent" the franchise was to make it more like a comic book movie. People mock Star Trek for being too cerebral, but that`s what makes it Star Trek.

    Lens flares. Everywhere.

@listypoos i think he means they took the franchise, and turned the movies into actual films, and not extended tv shows.

@FoolsPrussia- You`re kidding, right? People mock Star Trek as too cerebral? Really? I always mocked it for poor writing- even though story IDEAS were good- and worse acting. The 2009 flick was no better than ANY of the television incarnations, or the movies; Except `Wrath of Khan`- that has a warm, fuzzy place in my heart.

When I say cerebral, I`m referring to its stiffness, so you`re just misinterpreting my meaning.

Star Trek has many faults, but what made it interesting was its sense of wonder. My problem with the last one was that it really didn`t seem to have a point. It had a weak plot, with a forgettable villain. Most of it seemed to be about winking at the camera, ribbing at the cheesiness of the original series. That`s what I mean by caricature.

Still look forward to any Star Trek movie,
Liked the last one bit cheesy but good

@FoolsPrussia- Find a dictionary and look up `cerebral`, and then `stiffness`.
I guess it`s easy to misinterpret what someone says, when they cannot adequately articulate their meaning because, like, you know, I mean, they have a bad case of arthritis and their joints were sore and cerebral, but could ponder the wonders of the universe, because their mind is so-o-o stiff.
