Long for I-A-B, but a great debate about the one question that"s puzzled man since forever.

@Papajon:

Nothing wrong with people having faith in whatever they choose to believe in to keep them getting out of bed each morning. It does however become a problem when these people start forcing their beliefs on others and actively impede scientific progress. That is why this discussion is paramount.

The burden of proof is on religious people.

Your statement assumes that there *has* to be some purpose for life to be here, when there really doesn`t. If you`re looking for purpose while you`re alive, how about finding your own purpose like enjoying life or helping the needy, instead of waiting for someone to tell you what your purpose is? Sheep gonna baaaaaaa.

Sorry, I don`t believe anyone can either prove nor disprove the existence of God. I have to say though that if you do not believe in anything after this life, I mean, nothing at all, then why bother? I mean, really, why any of this? The difference is simple. If Hitchens is right we both end up in the same place, if not, we don`t. Me? I`ll choose to believe in God, thank you very much.

I like the title of that book. I have to buy it, just if only to have it on the shelf.
RIP Hitchens

Once again, theological noncognitivism is the only winner.
For me, Hitchens won it.
if for nothing other than being way less annoying than Turek.

Is that so? Wow. I guess that settles it for all of us. And here we were thinking all this time!

Did Turek really say if the day wasn`t 24 hours or if the axial tilt wasn`t 23.5 degrees, we wouldn`t be here? That`s complete bullpoo. There is absolutely nothing that implies, let alone supports that.

Yeah, these people never get down to the heart of the matter and it always becomes a fight between "what`s wrong with your religion and it`s history" and "why can`t you explain everything cosmologically already". It`s retarded but might be good for some new comers to the question to get their feet wet. Otherwise, how the fluck does our current present time understanding of the creation of the universe have anything to do with answering the existence of god? You could take that reasoning and go back in time and have some very "successful" debates, as our scientific understanding is constantly growing.

Debate AD 1400
Believer:"How did the universe start?"
Debator:"Not sure yet."
Believer:"Fail! I won! Cause the correct answer is `GOD`"

2 hours just to prove god is a falsehood? Talk about inefficiency.

Admittedly, the people at the university could`ve chosen a couple of better debaters. I just thought it was funny to see that Turek guy get destroyed over Hitchens` silly insulting arguments.

I don`t particularly care for Hitchens, but this Turek guy is too annoying to listen to, and that`s got nothing to do with his philosophy.

Turek tries forcing religion into science, which doesn`t work.

Hitchens debunks religion based off of the socially created Christian example, which is insulting.
