Link: The Poor African Kids Are Using Guilt Now - Well, I`m still gonna throw it away, but now I might give the process more than a few seconds of thought.

I wonder how much money they spend sending letters to random people.

I sponsored a kid from Honduras for a while. I`m pretty sure it didn`t advance him.

You know what would help those kids most of all? Fixing the country by helping the adults first.

@SarahofBorg: Help the country by FIXING all the adults... well 90% of them anyhow.

These "Save the children" things are just CON GAMES! They use the kids to get your money, but really if they do actually "help" the nation involved? They help the adults too. In the best cases.
Worst case? 95% of ALL money raised goes to "management costs"...

Go read "Bleak House" by Charles Dickens! It`s been happening forever!

Charity is not as easy as sending a cheque any more. You gotta do your research & know where your money is going.

All of you who are coming up with excuses, you can find one close to home,

All those damn charities that have late night commercials with that f*cking Sarah McLachlan song are bullsh*t. Like @5Cats said, the majority of your "donations" don`t go towards giving the kids food or building schools. The money goes towards buying the owner of the charity a new car.

Most of the money goes like 5cats says to upgrade cars and houses of the charity bigwigs,

Live aid back in the 80`s paid for a hell of a lot of AK47`s which wasted a fair few Rwandans and such folk.

Africa will always be like this, like the middle East will always be at war, just the way it is

chuck a hundred billion at them, they would still feck up, and still be starving/fighting/etc..

    Their governments keep them poor.
US cash aid to many of those countries went to buy arms.
So we gave them rice instead. They sold it to buy arms.
So the UN sent trucks to give the food directly to the hungry people.
As soon as the UN trucks moved out the army & guerrilas moved in and took the food to sell for arms.

I have no solution, but I don`t feel bad for not throwing cash at a problem that seems endless.

Ireland just ran an inquiry into how 4 million went missing from aid, into the very well lined pockets of Ugandan ministers.
What was not mentioned is that they received 60 million in legitimate aid previously, and spent much, much more on naval strike planes `for defence`.

    Uganda is landlocked...
