So I think we may have found a topic that almost everyone on IAB agrees on. Mark the date, this is a historic moment.

It`s amusing that the judge considers going to church a punishment :P

State mandated religion ... hmm ... I wonder if there`s a Constitutional Amendment about that ...

Stop Drinking and Driving!
Go to church and be a pedophile instead!

Quite. And would an atheist drunk driver be required to spend a couple of hours a week at the local natural history museum or public library?

this is such a drated up situation. if they are going to force him to go to church then it should be the church and religion of his choosing. there would be hell to pay if a muslim or jewish person was drunk driving, accidentally killed a guy and was forced to go to jail or christian church and not the option to go to the place of worship of the religion they choose.

personally i would be going to the church of my choosing: Pastafarianism :-) lol

That can`t be legal. Surely a court cannot compel church attendance.

"I hope you`re not making a joke about the name. John Luke Dum is the kid who was killed."

Please explain how someone gets ejected from a car while wearing the safety belt. If he knows the driver is drunk and won`t even put the safety belt then it`s his fault he died.

I hope all the Christians that go to that church are OK with the concept that some judge somewhere considers their chosen lifestyle to be fitting punishment for another member of society.

Peakingo, if my choices were a Mosque or Prison, I`m choosing a Mosque.

Really though, Public Service would be a better choice imo. He could serve time picking up litter and clearing brush on the road side and that would be a far better track that effing prison.

To anyone who feels this is ok, I`d like to see their reaction if the judge ordered him to a mosque.

I agree with captainkangaroo, jail isn`t always the best option. Having not been a part of the case, I`m hopeful the kid is remorseful and can learn from his mistake. I`m also hopeful that the family of the victim finds peace and doesn`t live with bitterness. I`m sure the ACLU will have a heyday with this case, but personally I`m fine with drug and alcohol counseling and testing as well as 10 years of fairy tales to teach morality.

Up to the church requirement, it was looking pretty good. Not everything is solved by throwing someone into prison, where drugs, rape, beatings and murder are a way of life- and that`s just the guards- the convicts are worse.

Lee Dorn Thinks It`s Stupid Too!

Of all the parts of the "justice system"? Judges are the weakest link... and y`all down in America can elect some of them!

Here in Canada it`s almost impossible to remove a sitting judge. A lazier bunch of crazy uber-liberals has rarely been seen outside of a University faculty meeting...

PS: Don`t blame religion for this! It`s the judge`s fault, lawyers too, probably.

I`m no expert on US law but I think it`s safe to say that sentencing someone to attend church is unconstitutional.

Basic separation of church and state. It will be overturned.
