@markust: I can`t speak for them I can only speak for the ones I know in my city. Like I said, it`s that way with most religions. You have your good and your bad. My brother for example became a "born again christian" when I was very young. He allowed it to alienate him from the majority of my family for a very long time so trust me I know what you feel in your situation.

I come from a Catholic family. I left that church a long time ago because of alot of reasons. Believe me I`m not preaching here because I definitely am not a `good mormon`. I smoke and I drink coffee....baaaaaaad!

The only reason I spoke up here is because I got tired of seeing all mormons be ridiculed for the action or inaction of a few. I mean come on, the majority of mainstream religions were considered crazy when they started in the first place.

Djwajda, why would the hardest of the hard core Mormons in my husbands life not even look at us? Why would they not acknowledge us? This was family. We loved each other. I never let it get to me but I think they are missing out on what life is about. I don`t care if a Christian marries a Jew. Why should they care if their cousin marries a dude?

Here is what you have to ask yourself. Could Mitt Romney have delivered such a heartfelt speech about helping the common man? About being a community organizer? It is insane that conservatives have turned the phrase community organizer into a negative. Obama turned down huge offers to be a community organizer. He is a man of the people, He is the exact opposite of the man the conservative media has made him out to be. But the sheep baa baa baa believe it.

The people he spoke to are the ones out doing good in the world, the people who fail to understand are the ones that comment here.

Is it just me or should our president not cry in public like this? You cannot get emotional buddy, especially wussy, in that role.

And for the record I`ll answer that question...

Yes I would vote for an Atheist if I felt they could do a good job for the country and yes I believe religion should not have such a big place in politics. And no I did not vote for Romney OR Obama, I chose 3rd party. Couldn`t really believe in either of them. However at the same time I`ll support my president because it`s the right thing to do and I won`t ridicule anyone for voting for him either. It`s ridiculous and petty to do so.

Ok I usually stay out of religious crap but...

Not ALL mormons are bigots and that`s coming from one.

I wasn`t born into the religion and honestly I`m not the best practicing one for that matter but I am here to tell you that at least the ones I know will go out of their way to help those in need.

Now that being said I know it isn`t that way with all just like in any religion. Funny part is you all act like Romney is the first mormon to run for politics. I suggest looking up just how many occupy seats in both the Senate and House. Both Rep and Dem. As well as just how many have contributed some great things to society over the past couple hundred years.

Not singling any one person out here just needed to speak my mind.

How the hell do you go from seeing a guy say thank you to the people who helped him and worked hard for him, and say thank you in a humble and inspiring way to calling each other bigots and attacking each others point of view? I don`t care who said it, it`s a good speech and i would be moved if it was given to me.

"Shameful religious persecution."

Would you vote for an atheist for president? Most Americans wouldn`t. Would you vote for a Scientologist? Would you vote for someone that still worships Zeus?

I think counting a person`s belief system is a perfectly acceptable gauge for whether they should be president. Do you know what the Mormon faith believes? It is bats.hit crazy. I don`t want bats.hit crazy people running my country.

I wouldn`t vote for a Christian if I could avoid it because I`d rather the person in charge have a penchant for rational thought, but I`m kinda SOL in that regard.

I would too. Reagan killed that ideology though. He set us on the path to debt and the destruction of the middle class.

"Shameful religious persecution."

The most Mormon of my ex`s extended family wouldn`t even acknowledge our existence let alone look at us. Even if we were at a social pizza outing the hardest of the hard core would sit apart from us. I am extremely social. Believe me I tried to talk to them. What kind of message is this sending to their gay kids? They do not get to play the victim. Yes it is shameful religious persecution but it is them doing the persecuting. As a religion they are not ready to lead. They are too young and exclusionary.

`However, if it truly was a defeat for fiscal conservatism (that is less taxes and spending) then the Republicans should`ve been swept out, instead they still held the house.`

Part of this can be attributed to redistricting.

`All-in-all this election was a decisive defeat for social conservatism.`

This I agree with, and thank God. I would welcome a return of the fiscal Republican party, because it would bring the correct balance back to our government, as opposed to how we seem to have gotten bogged down fighting over social issues we thought were settled long ago.

@Markust: I understand. JFK went through the same thing before he became president.

He had to go through a tribunal about his Catholicism. Shameful religious persecution. Who gives a poo. Mormon. Catholic. Muslim. PEOPLE.
Sounds like you belong to the wrong party then.
As a registered Republican I wish the Republican party would just embrace Gay Marriage already. While I was stunned by the defeat of the Republican party a few moments of reflection took me from denial to acceptance in one step. To witch I concur with markust not so much they were bigots, rather the Republican campaign was a parade of religious idiots that was so badly out of touch they couldn`t find the electorate in a whole nation of voters. However, if it truly was a defeat for fiscal conservatism (that is less taxes and spending) then the Republicans should`ve been swept out, instead they still held the house. The Ron Paul wing of the tea party fared very well actually.

Sorry for the rant Auburnjunky. When you called HolyGod a bigot for not wanting to put our country in the hands of a Mormon I guess I lost it. My ex is from SLC. I am well aware of the Mormon churches history of bigotry against black people then their recent bigotry against gays. They do not get to play the victim. And HolyGod is not a bigot for not wanting such an exclusionary religion to be anywhere near the Presidency.

I forgot about anti-women. The two nutballs that made asinine claims about rape lost thank God. If the religious extremists and the Tea-Party extremists are not booted out, your party is doomed. Not talking about all of religion or all of the Tea Party. I`m talking about the crazy extremists.

"I voted Republican. You lumped them into one group. I am in the group. Therefore, it is implied that I am a bigot, when nothing could be further..."

Wake the f*ck up. Your party has been using bigotry to get votes since the Southern Strategy. I personally feel the anti-gay hate talk. I hear and read the anti-muslim, anti-latino, anti-black slickly disguised bigotry. Keep your head in the sand and don`t speak up and your party will continue to lose. I`m already seeing people in the news realizing this.

Actually Auburnjunky sit in the dark for all I care. The more you guys deny reality the more Liberals will win. Republicans can no longer count on just the white vote. I know it is impossible for conservatives to admit they are wrong but this loss falls squarely at the feet of the Republican Party and conservative pundits.

You guys are the liars or at least are brainwashed by lies:

Promise Kept 193 (38%)
Compromise 87 (17%)
Promise Broken 91 (18%)
Stalled 38 (7%)
In the Works 97 (19%)
Not yet rated 2 (0%)

What the drat?!

Markust. How dare you imply that I didn`t vote for Obama based on his color, or for any of those other things.

I am FOR gay rights. I am FOR racial equality. I am FOR women`s right.

As a matter of fact, I don`t think it`s a stretch to say, he got more black votes because he is black, then he lost white votes for the same reason.

We are scared of a second term, because he is no longer beholden to the voters. He lied and didn`t keep many promises in his first term. Now he doesn`t have to keep ANY!

Hook, line, sinker.

"This is the thing that scares people the most."

For those of us who haven`t been brainwashed by conservative media this does not scare us in the least. It actually gives us hope of good things to come. President Obama is such a good President that the conservative media had to create a false character of him that they can attack. Too bad that character does not resemble Obama in any way. I cracks me up the way you guys freak out over things that have no basis in reality.

"Bigot."

You have just nailed the reason the Republican`s lost the election. The all white vote is now the losing vote. This is a wonderful turning point in our history. No longer will the Republicans be able to use anti-gay, anti-latino (Illegals), anti-muslim, anti-black, anti-poor rhetoric to scare white people into voting. They will have to use compassion to try and win those votes over.

poo now did I miss this?

"with a horrible track record as a governor"

Ahh ahh ahh.

36th in business to first during his tenure.

15th to first in education during his tenure.

Installed a fair healthcare system that, unlike Obamacare, is NOT paid for with taxes, and is ELECTIVE.

I wish he could have done these things for his country. Massachusetts benefited greatly from his leadership.

He is such a good man. Can`t wait to see what he does now that he doesn`t have to worry about his next election. I hope he says that the tax cuts for the rich will expire no mater what. That he will do that with a signing statement if he has to. That can not be a negotiation piece by the Republicans in the House. We need a truly balanced budget and raising taxes is half of the solution.

You know what is funny? Most of the people that voted were for Obama and most the people across the world were for Obama, but you still are convinced that you were right.

You wanted to put our country in the hands of a Mormon, wall street raiding, plutocrat with a horrible track record as a governor of a state that wanted NOTHING to do with him afterwards and a rotating stance on every issue.
