Here"s the photo that was taken by Jennifer Foster, the tourist that was nearby.

I`m laughing because our society has become so self absorbed that when someone actually does a good deed for someone it makes national headlines. sad.

If you look at the original post the tourist says she doesn`t know the name of the Officer and he wasn`t aware of her taking the picture. Ok, could still be setup, but who the heck cares O.o I chose to believe he did a good deed because he wanted to, not because he wanted to be seen doing it. Tbh, it`s sad and cynical to instantly think he`s doing it for his own good, I kinda pity people who have that kind of view of the world :/

Yeah, exactly what LordJim said.
Also, some poor old bugger got a pair of shoes out of this deal on a freezing night. Who cares what the cop`s motivation was...

Come on, give the guy the benefit. He was snapped in the act and it became a thing to which he was probably pressured to respond. No reason to think he was grandstanding in the first instance. I`m as cynical as the next guy but sometimes good deeds are just that, however the machine responds.

Hm.... I donated a Wii with all the games, controllers and accessories to a random struggling family with four kids who otherwise wouldn`t have gotten anything for Christmas.

... I want a press conference!!

Big city PDs should have a budget for this kind of stuff... when an officer runs across some poor soul in real need, they could help them out and submit the receipt for reimbursement. I know, I know, I`m just a softhearted "libtard"...

Do your good deeds in secret if you`re doing them for the right reasons. Otherwise all you`re doing is putting on a show for praise.

Faith in humanity +1

As for the people complaining about the press confernce, i`d rather see this then cebutards coked up car chrashes, new i-toy sleep overs or economic ghost stories.

The Lyke Wake Dirge is a Yorkshire funeral song which describes how the journey after death is eased by good deeds in life.

If ever thou gavest hosen and shoon,
Sit thee down and put them on;
If hosen and shoon thou ne`er gav`st nane
The whinnes sall prick thee to the bare bane.

( If ever you gave socks and shoes
Sit down and put them on.
If socks and shoes you never gave none
The thorns will prick you to the bare bone.)

I guess this guy will walk easy.

I was skeptical about why he was having the press conference as well, but it seems that most likely the image started circulating and he was approached by the press. Everyone seems to like hearing about people being good to eachother.

Remember this next time your dozens of pairs of shoes come tumbling out of your wardrobe and you curse because you just don`t have enough room.

Yeah, ya know... sell his shoes on that great big used bum shoe market where there is such great demand. Some of the best shoes I own are urine soaked used bum shoes. Man people love hiding their hate for the homeless behind some absurdly misplaced cynicism.

People think they sit around begging for cash all day. In reality they are out there working hard, buying beer for underage kids. God bless them.

wonder when he sells the shoes to buy some booze or gets them robbed.. hope not of course and I hope he appreciates it as much as he said but..

Good man. I just don`t understand why it needs a press conference? This just lowers the standard by which we should regard other human beings and acts of kindness.

I`ve seen this in news articles - there`s already a lot of cynicism being expressed about it.

Personally I don`t care whether the guy has been seen shoeless again since, or that it`s been publicised like this... the guy bought another person a pair of shoes, good on him.
