Further state to state restrictions include state/federal owned buildings and parks. Business owner discretion. No state allows open carry of firearms anywhere near grade schools. Probably forgetting some restrictions somewhere.

It`s a large country with lots of unique laws depending on where you are. Lots of laws that don`t even make sense today because they`re centuries old. Pretty much just go with the flow and if you share the sentments of rizzo and dinven, you can most likely just move a state over and not have to worry about seeing an old lady with a gun.

"but im european. what are the general reasons that its not allowed united stateians?"

You`re question is somewhat ambiguous, but I`ll try to answer. Open carry of firearms is legal in public everywhere in the united states* there are simply vastly different restrictions as to what "open carry" is state by state. A couple of the southern states have restrictions imposed by the federal government thanks to the civil war. I assume that what this new Oklahoma law now amends. In other states, open carry means the firearm cannot be loaded. In some states you can`t open carry a handgun, but rifles are allowed (Because black bear attacks in LA are so common...)

A country with over twice the landmass as the EU combined, but with only one third the population density means there are VASTLY different perspectives living on this land. Every state having it`s own unique laws shouldn`t be too hard to accept.

spanerbulb - Hey stupid, what`s your problem? Were you offended when I said Europeans are arrogant? Euro IABers constantly trash talk America, but how easily you are offended when I say the something about your worthless half of the world.

Either the USA is an absolute hell hole where you can`t be safe without carrying a gun, or you are safe without one which makes them completely unnecessary.

But that isn`t going to stop someone from cracking her in the head from behind with a bottle or something and taking her gun. I agree, concealed is better at prevention than open.

LOL that`s funny cause we`ve been doing that since 1776. So we`ve been failing since our inception....

Yes, cavemen carried semi automatic pistols..... Look to history of leaders who disarmed their people and you might see a disturbing pattern quite opposite of your idealism.

I see nothing wrong here. We have the right to bear arms. Why should an open carry be any different than a concealed carry. In fact a concealed carry should have you worried more. When I lived in Arizona for a while they had open carries and I have seen pretty much this same scene. Woman at grocery store with a gun on her hip (not looking like a lesbian though).

I think the main issue here is that by seeing it on her hip people are intimidated by the sight of the gun. But some people are also afraid of people based off other appearances such as race, sex, physical build, tattoos, and some types of clothing. Should we try to ban those as well since it scares some people?

Byfield,
"Thats scary, being able to just have a gun out in the open, displaying it. I would give those people a wide birth."
No, what`s scary is the concealed weapon.
As for giving her a wide birth....that`s kinda the point of carrying it.

What is to stop some thug smacking her across the head with a blunt instrument and just taking the gun?

Or just mugging her with his own gun? If the gun is in her face she`s not going to able to get hers out of the holster and fiddle with the safeties.

What I don`t understand is how people are fine with concealed carry but somehow don`t like open carry. I`d rather be able to know who to avoid if we`re going to be allowing average citizens to carry deadly weapons in public.

Because you`ll never be safe in the world without a giant gun pastered to your hip.. Unless she is openly a lesbian in Oklahoma, the gun might actually be doing her some safety aid.. :(

Gerry, you ought to know that as it is, more people are killed each year thru home accidents with guns than are ever shot in self-defense. Allowing any idiot (more or less) to pack heat is just looking for trouble. This is not the rational action of a civilized country.

As an ex criminal who spent my late teens and early 20`s in a life of crime, I can tell you that if this were the norm back then, I wouldn`t have so many victims. I would`ve thought twice about robbing someone who openly carries a weapon. Just sayin.

If criminals knew there was a good chance they`d get shot in the act of the crime, they`d be less likely to do it. But as things are, they know you are unarmed and even if you have a gun in your house, you`re not allowed to use it for defense except in very few circumstances.
