cobrakiller-"the joke here...Isuzu [japanese word] Hombre [spanish word]"

Yeah, I missed that aspect of it. But then I`ve always found language kinda fluid. Many words from one will find usage in others over time. Most of the time people will not even consider the origin of a word.
Examples:
Robot (Slavic)
Chassis (French)
Bona fide (Latin)
Bagel (Yiddish)

MeGrendel & GhettoNinja, allow me to explain the GM and Isuzu relationship.
Isuzu just got into the american consumer car market by the early 80s, and they weren`t doing great. Isuzu always had a lead with Cargo Trucks and commercial vehicles, so GM approached them and offered a trade: make thousands of your cargo trucks, let us brand them GM vehicles, we will provide you with a pick-up and other vehicles that you can brand as Isuzu`s. The deal was agreed upon, and a similar deal was reached between GM and Honda later in the 90s:(trading the Honda Odyssey [branded Isuzu Oasis], for the Isuzu Rodeo & the Trooper [branded Honda Passport and Acura SLX]).
With any of these trades, the vehicle you purchase as branded by the Make and Model on that vehicle, directly associates with the company that received those profits. So by buying an Isuzu Hombre, this person was supporting a Japanese car company as well as in this particular case, purchasing an ironically named Model of

The irony is in regards to the language not whether or not it`s made in the USA.

What I find crazy about car companies right now is that while GM & Ford have their cars made out of the country, Japan [at least Toyota and Isuzu for sure] has their cars built here in the US.

Isuzu and GMC`s are interchangeable in many cases.

Just look at the Isuzu NPR and the GMC W3500. The Isuzu FTR and the GMC W5500.

Same cab, same engine, same chassis. It is the same exact truck, just different emblems.
