You`re right, as human beings we`re entitled to health and shelter and food. If that belief makes me a commie, then so be it. It`s just simple human needs. It`s sad that the wealthiest nation in the world, yet we`re too selfish to be willing to help those in need. Yes some do cheat the system. They are the vast minority though.

Schecter, human beings are not entitled to free food from the government. We`re the fattest country in the world, it`s not a problem. Especially when there is no money to pay for it. Cut the military by 100%, the deficit is still not solved. The food stamp budget is quadruple NASA`s budget. Think about that.

And healthcare - you only deserve FREE healthcare, paid for by somebody else, if you take care of your body. You should only get free healthcare if you are a healthy weight and can run a mile in less than 8 minutes. I`m sorry, that`s literally the fairest compromise on healthcare out there and it would hurt literally nobody. In fact, everyone would benefit.

As for Romney, he was always a bad candidate. Just not as bad as Perry, Bachman, Cain. Laughing out loud.

Romney is absolutely right and the comments here prove it! I see clearly now the problem is the lefty`s definition of freedom is so very different than mine. Mine has something in it called "morality". I bet you lefty`s instantly take that to mean I think I am better, more deserving and elite but it`s actually the exact opposite. It means I want everyone to succeed! I hope all reach their dreams. I hope all strive for excellence! The entitlement mentality strips people of that notion and robs them of their humanity, their creativity, and desire to improve drops off. There is no concept left then says that entitlements simply cannot be maintained and then who is going to riot? Not the conservatives, it`s you lefties who now always are looking for one more government teat to suck on. It`s simply the truth! Look at Greece! Look at it!!!!

Cajun, since when it losing by 2% a big loss?

Here`s a novel idea of why Romney lost and Obama won. Obama is a good candidate, Romney isn`t. It`s really that simple, I`m actually surprised Romney got as close as he did being such an average candidate.

It`s funny that all the dumba$$ conservatives say Obama only won because of people who live off welfare and don`t pay taxes want to keep their free ride. No one ever mentions that the majority of Republican (Red) States receive more in federal aid than they pay back to federal government in taxes.

Most Red States Take More Money From Washington Than They Put In

States With Most Signatures to Secede Took Millions in Federal Money

Romney lost by almost 3%, actually. The popular vote percentages are Obama 50.6% and Romney 47.8. And considering it`s the electoral college that actually decides the winner, I`d say he lost by quite a bit.

Be that as it may Andrew the Republican party by and large lost BIG TIME the sluggish recovery Obama has presided over served the GOP both houses AND the presidency on a platter. They turned their collective noses up at it with a confusing, contradictory, and unconvincing message on TOP of a lukewarm embrace of social conservatism.

I stand corrected, he didn`t win by 2%, but by a grand 2.8%, with an even slimmer margin in most of the key swing states. I suppose that`s supposed to be a giant landslide these days. And that`s with Johnson.

And whodat, all of those analyses are very shoddy. The difference between a red state and blue state is not very large. It could easily be all the red voters in the blue states taking the money, or all the blue people in the red states doing it. In all likelihood, it`s both. But most importantly they`re not some collective because 51% of them voted one way this election cycle

    This is the real America.

Translated into English from an article in the Prague newspaper Prager Zeitungon:

"The danger to America is not Barack Obama, but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the Presidency. It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their president. The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails America.

Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince. The Republic can survive a Barack Obama, who is, after all, merely a fool. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools, such as those who made him their president."

Not really. Ohio (1.9%) and Florida (.8%) were pretty close, but Obama would have still won without those states. The next closest was Virginia (3%). All the other swing states (save North Carolina, Romney`s sole swing state victory) were won by Obama with at least a 4% difference. That`s not exactly a tossup.

I`d have to partially agree with him. Democrats are largely for bigger, government run programs such as welfare, "Obamacare", cell phones for seniors (even if that WAS a programs started by George Dubya), etc, etc. One of the party lines of the Republican party is smaller government, more self-sufficiency for the individual. Then you have a liberal-slanting media telling everyone that translates into food stamp cuts, welfare cuts, social security cuts, more restrictions on medicare, etc, people will start to believe it, regardless of whether it`s true or not. They`ll think "Welfare cuts? I can barely get by now! And they want to take away what little I get from the government already?!"

Same goes with the Hispanic votes and immigration. Democrats have largely been for programs that allow illegals to obtain drivers licenses, get insurance, food stamps, etc. If you happen to be an American citizen that immigrated from another country - or were born here but have relatives that are here illegally - and your mother or father is here illegally, and the Democrats are saying "Yes, we`ll give your family drivers licenses, let them obtain a job, give them health care and welfare if needed" and a Republican on the other side saying "Immigrants who are here illegally should not receive the same benefits of one who is here legally", who are you going to vote for? The one who wants to take away your family`s way to make a living?

Plus, the fact that Obama received nearly 100% of the black vote didn`t hurt any. But that`s another story, haha.

Hey, EmagehtmaI, it`s cute that you say the Republican party is about smaller government and spending less money. Name ONE Republican president who`s presided over a balanced budget, or reduced either the deficit or even the budget deficit in your lifetime. Name a single one in the last 50 years. Can`t? Oh, gee. Sorry. Now, try the same with a Democrat. Oh, it was Clinton. Now shut the drat up about how the Republicans are all about less smaller government and less spending. drat, at least the Dems are honest about it.

Every single Democrat in the last 50 years has reduced the budget deficit. EVERY SINGLE ONE (except Obama--so far). So, please, just shut up about the GOP and their "small government" and "fiscal responsibility" BS. I think you guys missed the point. I`m not saying I believe anything I just wrote - I`m saying that many people do. You say that people believe anything that Fox news spews, but the same is largely true for CNN and the other side. It`s all about perception. People perceive that Republicans are going to take away their stuff. So they vote liberal. Pretty simple. Most people will just believe what they want to believe, anyway. If you`re a low-income person, it`s easy to look down on the rich because of the PERCEPTION that they want to take away what little the poor have. And the higher-income people have the PERCEPTION that poor people have no work ethic and just want the government to take care of them. Both groups of people believe this, regardless of how true it is, and they vote accordingly.

Likewise Bill Clinton had own fiscally insane ideas. Considering the circumstances I`d prefer the govt to be shut down until the tax code and Federal register are gutted.

Every single Democrat in the last 50 years has reduced the budget deficit

My analysis: no. The ending deficit was always worse than the starting one. Even if I were to account for lag that would only make 2 of the last 5 Dem presidents that shrank the deficit.

However, I`m not gullible enough to believe the Republicans when they tell me they are going to lower spending and shrink the government when EVERY Republican president in my lifetime has added to the debt and grown the federal government. I have no doubt that Romney would have done the same.

At least with Obama people are getting helped with the deficits vs Romney who would have grown the deficit by cutting taxes on the wealthy and unnecessarily adding to the defense budget.

On one hand more laws and regulations don`t really help anyone. They just make doing business more complicated. Obamacare is going to make healthcare more complicated. There are better ways to fix the EMTALA deficiency and the problem of third party payers driving up healthcare costs.

On the other hand, I didn`t support Mitt Romney he did not provide any clarity in his plans. On top of which we do overspend on the military.

Considering the circumstances? A huge part of the problem is the massive obstruction that was done by Republicans during Obama`s first term. We would be at least $2T less in debt if the Republicans would have worked with Obama to come up with balanced budgets instead of doing everything they could to make sure he was a one term president. They put party over the country in a time when we needed them most.

There was no way they were going to get elected if Obama turned things around. You fiscal conservatives should be mad as hell at the Republicans in congress. But you`re not. You gave them a pass because it would get rid of Obama. Too bad it backfired.

Funny, because according to Obama compromise is when Republicans support expanded govt and higher taxes for the sake of "national interests" if this quote is anything to go by:

As much as we might associate the GI Bill with Franklin Roosevelt, or Medicare with Lyndon Johnson, it was a Republican — Lincoln — who launched the Transcontinental Railroad, the National Academy of Sciences, land-grant colleges. It was a Republican — Eisenhower — who launched the Interstate Highway System and a new era of scientific research. It was Nixon who created the Environmental Protection Agency; Reagan who worked with Democrats to save Social Security—and who, by the way, raised taxes to help pay down an exploding deficit.

All I hear from you right wing nutjobs is "Benghazi, wwwaaahhh, there was an attack on our embassy and no one cares! They covered it up, it`s a conspiracy!" If that`s the case let`s investigate all the attacks that occurred while Dick Cheney was president.

Hell Reagan RAISED taxes and the deficit still exploded. So no, I`m not your typical Republitard. Before you say how these agencies do any good consider two things:
1)Lack of govt isn`t going to do away with scientific research.
2)Social security and Medicare are the biggest drivers of the govt`s debt.

    @whodat

That timeline right there should say how insane our foreign policy has become. The military (I REFUSE to call it "defense") is another one of the biggest drivers of our debt. We waste money, we create more future enemies, we also create more targets for said enemies to attack. Yet the hawks see no problem with this?

1)Lack of govt isn`t going to do away with scientific research.
Effectively, yes it would. The only scientific research that would be done would be industry-driven, with little to no research on environmental concerns like wildlife, climate, limnology, etc. etc. If your research doesn`t turn out positive results, it could be shut down or have its funding severely cut. That`s not science. Science is based on the notion of scientists doing research, and reporting the findings good OR bad. Without government there would be no basic research done, as it doesn`t necessarily have a tangible, profitable goal. Without basic research we would never have discovered stem cells, amongst many other discoveries, simply because industry would have said "Don`t waste your time on the mouse bone marrow, focus on what makes us money."

Now, I`m not saying that government doesn`t hold onto results it doesn`t like sometimes and never let them be published, because it does and I abhor it. However, the research is still being done. Government is integral to science, end of story.

@nubblins, this may be a difficult concept for your tiny little brain to grasp, but try to stay with me.

Let`s say I just decided that I`m NOT going to take $1 million from you. Therefore, according to your logic, that`s the same thing as me giving you $1 million. Now I`ll just send the IRS a 1099 to document the transaction, and you get to figure out how to pay the taxes on your $1 million windfall.

You see, not taking something from someone is not the same thing as giving something to someone.

Fair enough. How about this more accurate analogy:

You owe me a million dollars every year. You pay it to me year after year after year. Then one year I tell you that you don`t have to give it to me. I may not be giving you a gift but it sure as hell feels like it huh?

Republican party, in your current form, you`re going extinct. You`ve already alienated yourselves from everyone but older white men and suburban women, chastising blaming and turning your back on the other "47%" (psst, it`s actually a lot more than 47% or you would`ve won, huh?) ... just keep going further and further off the conservative right wing cliff until your only chances of ever winning another national election are 1)Democrats do something to alienate themselves even worse than you have, or 2)you realize that you have to come back at LEAST to the moderate right to get anyone but the aforementioned groups to vote for you.

Thank you HolyGod for being intelligent. Seriously, oldollie, you really think your situational argument was valid? If a man made half a million in 2010, and paid 32% into taxes, and next year, he makes the same amount, in the same way, and the government said "You know what? you only have to pay 15% this year. Yeah, serious. Don`t worry about it." That`s not a "gift"? Are we not in a fiscal crisis? Does this really seem like the wise thing to do? Are you that... short sighted with such a strong passion for the rich to feel entitled to their hoarding and excessive, wasteful and lavish lifestyles? If you really want to point to finger on the concept of entitlement, I think that trophy goes to the rich, who think they deserve mansions and yachts and private jets while families are living in efficiency apartments living off ramen noodles and welfare checks. But hey, I`m sure the feel they deserve that luxury, thank you Uncle Sam.

Mitt Romney lost because he was a horrible nominee. The republican party propped up a tax dodger and the party faithful rallied behind that unpatriotic turd. What little credibility they had after the debacle that was George Bush has been completely washed away by their support for this fraud. He`s nothing. His political career is over and his words are toxic. As a result the republican party is a rudderless ship without a captain.

Here`s the problem with the media. Fox came along because they and other people on the right claimed the mainstream media had a liberal bias. If it`s true that the mainstream media is biased to the left, then you`d think their solution would be to counter it by presenting accurate news. Instead they presented the rightwing view of things. This caused MSNBC to shift dramatically to the left to be a counter to Fox`s right wing angle. They are both entertainment organizations.

It`s not news if it`s telling you how to think. News is about giving you the facts and letting you make up your mind based on being properly informed.

If the republicans had put out a reasonable candidate people would have voted for him and he would have won by a long shot. The problem is that the conservatives are so extremist in their ideals that the middle ground people shy away from them. Even those that have more conservative ideals than liberal ones. Eg. many people are "liberal" on social views (universal healthcare, people`s right to choose abortion/gay marriage etc.) yet are conservative in terms of the government`s role (small government, strict capitalism etc etc). Unfortunately the Republican party is more about enforcing christian ideals than running a goverment, or so it seems at least.

And yeah american news is just shot. Well your whole government is. I guess we`ll see how they work together in the next 4 years. If Repubs decide to stop immediately saying no to everything :P

Republicans cut funds for the state department had detrimental effects to security and the worst happened. CNN should report on it. An American embassy was attacked and an ambassador died. It is a legitimate story. However CNN is reporting it at a level appropriate in relation to the rest of the news. In 3 hours they might talk about Benghazi for 10 or 12 minutes.

FOX has been reporting it as the biggest story of the day and the main topic on the punditry show for weeks now. I watched FOX for 3 hours and they talked about Benghazi for over 2 hours. It is simply NOT that major of a story. They certainly did not devote this much time to embassy attacks under Bush.

"Obama failed to protect it adequately and it resulted in getting our Ambassador Chris Stevens killed, something that hasn`t happened since 1979"

    1. You do realize there are hundreds of embassies right? You really feel those are all Obama`s responsibility personally?

    2. Do you feel that this was somehow a more serious attack than the numerous embassy attacks that happened under Bush?

    3. Conservatives keep making a huge deal about the video tape / terror attack thing. Why? The early information was wrong. They always said that it was still being investigated. Then after a couple weeks they reported it was a terrorist attack. What purpose would it possibly serve to lie about the cause of the attack? In your most wild, conservative conspiracy dreams what do you think was Obama`s motivation to lie if you think he did?

HG: They certainly did not devote this much time to embassy attacks under Bush.

Because, as I just said, Those other attacks didn`t result in an Ambassador getting killed. Benghazi was due to a lack of security from this administration. Chris Stevens himself begged for more security and didn`t get it, in fact 2 weeks before 9/11/12, 2 security teams were withdrawn from Libya. Then Obama sends Susan Rice out to plant the cover story about that fake video resulting in a `protest`.

At least when Nixon was covering up Watergate, no one got killed. Obama knew within hours this was an attack by a terrorist group, not a protest. Hell they were even watching it happen live on video from an overhead drone.

I guess you haven`t been paying any attention to the hearings about this on CSPAN have you?

Of course they are, who else is responsible except him? Hillary? As Obama said the other day, "Come after me" and they will.

"Then Obama sends Susan Rice out to plant the cover story about that fake video resulting in a `protest`."

Why? What possible reason could he have? Seriously? How does that make him look any better? If it was an issue with lack of security than that issue is the same whether it was planned or a a spontaneous protest right?

I don`t trust him. I don`t really trust anyone. However if I can`t think of a reason for someone to lie I give them the benefit of the doubt.

So then you feel Bush was personally responsible for September 11th?

See I don`t. I don`t give presidents as much credit or blame as you seem to. However if Obama is personally responsible for allowing Benghazi to happen then Bush is personally responsible for allowing September 11th to happen right?

HG: what do you think was Obama`s motivation to lie if you think he did?

To cover up the lack of security he failed to provide and the inept decision to not respond and rescue Chris Stevens when there was still a chance that that was possible.

There were 2 USMC helicopter teams less than an hour away, the attack lasted for over 4 hours. Obama realized after-the-fact this was a major screw up and threw Susan Rice out to the press to cover for him.

They knew this was no protest and hoped to sweep it under the rug, but CNN got to the burned out embassy and found Chris Stevens diary 3 days afterwards.

But remember this is all a Fox News conspiracy, right?

No you just blame GW Bush for most things and give Obama a pass on Benghazi and the economy.

..then Bush is personally responsible for allowing September 11th to happen right?

No the terrorists and Bin Laden are to blame for that. I`m not blaming Obama for the actions of the terrorists, I`m blaming him for, withdrawing security from Libya 2 weeks before 9/11/12, not responding to it by way of sending in teams to attempt to rescue Ambassador Stevens and for covering it up with that stupid fake video/ protest story for 2 weeks.

@Crakr: So then do you blame Bush for not responding to the CIA review titled: "Bin Laden Determined to Strike in U.S." that he received on August 6, 2001?

"No you just blame GW Bush for most things and give Obama a pass on Benghazi and the economy."

I blame Bush`s administration for the massive nose dive our economy was in on jan 2009 when Obama took office? You don`t?

I also blame Bush`s administration for the tank of 2009 while Obama attempted to right the ship.

I don`t have to blame Obama for the economy because I think it could have gotten a lot worse and I credit steps he took for mitigating the recession. I also think things have been getting constantly better since the beginning of 2010.

I don`t give him a pass on Bengahzi. His administration is to blame. However I think the story is being drastically exaggerated and overblown. I chalk it up more to s.hit happens. It sucks. It is horrible people died. I just don`t see a need to politicize it.

patchgrabber: You know damn well that CIA report had no specific information about terrorists hijacking planes or flying them into buildings.

Obama on the other hand DID have specific knowledge of who attacked the embassy in Benghazi and Gen. Petraeus just now testified to the fact that references to "Al Qaeda involvement" were stripped from his agency`s reports on the attack.

LOL! Oh poo, please tell me you don`t really believe that. He`s raised our national debt by $6 billion dollars and wants another $1.6 trillion before the end of the year. That`s not `righting the ship` that`s firing more torpedoes into it!

These same old debates are pretty pointless.

The election is over. The guy I voted for won. The guy you voted for lost.

There is no more point in conjecture. One of two things will happen, either things will get better in the next four years and I`ll be right, or they`ll get worse and you`ll be right.

So a report that mentions aircraft hijacking on the front page isn`t specific enough?

"who else is responsible for them?"

The congressional Republicans who voted to defund embassy security are also responsible for this.

"Fox came along because they and other people on the right claimed the mainstream media had a liberal bias."

Actually Fox News had to create the false narrative that the MSM has a liberal bias in order to sell their sensational stories. "See the MSM isn`t reporting what we are reporting. They obviously have a liberal bias." No, the other networks weren`t reporting the stories because they were sensational BS. And that is why Fox News is the worst thing to happen to America. Nothing has divided America more than Fox News. And like you said soon after MSNBC followed suit and became just as horrible with sensationalism. And now CNN is starting to get into the act although they still have kept a bit of journalistic integrity.

    patchgrabber: From your own source,

"We have not been able to corroborate some of the more sensational threat reporting such as that from a (redacted) service in 1998 saying that Bin Laden wanted to hijack a US aircraft to gain the release of "Blind Shaykh Umar Abd al-Rahman and other US-held extremists."

So please tell me what part of "We have not been able to corroborate"... "from a 1998, (Clinton era), (redacted) service..." Do you not understand?

So No, it wasn`t specific enough.

However Gen. Petraeus` testimony today confirmed that the White House knew the Banghazi attack had "Al Qaeda involvement" and that that information was scrubbed from the CIA reports.
