@piperfawn: you DID notice that @Draculya wished that every JEW in Israel were dead, right? You see that? It`s 100% exactly what he`s saying.

Because it`s Hamas`s #1 goal: to rid "the Holy Land" of each and every Jew, PERIOD.

ffs: Muslims aren`t even FROM that part of the world! They invaded and claimed it as their own!

Also I said sorry, you see that too, eh?

@Draculya: So Israel is the problem, not Jews. But if ALL THE JEWS in Isael were KILLED you`d have a party?
Not nice individual.

@piperfawn, sorry, I`ll stop.

@Cajun: Yes, Hamas wants civilian casualties! Jews, Arabs, ANYONE who dies makes them very happy! There have been many situations of their rockets `falling short` and hitting Gaza, but that`s OK with them. When a bomb making factory blew up & killed dozens of civilians? They just blmaed Israel! (It was in the basement of a civilian building, iirc)

Israel cannot allow thousands of rockets to rain on it`s people, period!

Spending billions on "Iron Dome" is ALSO a bad idea since the Hamas rockets are cheap! ID anti-rockets probably cost 20X as much as the ones they`re shooting down! Still, ID is better than nothing for the moral of the population.
So if you don`t know any better, is it OK to condemn Israel for taking THIS course of action?
Maybe civilian casualties were an inevitable result of Israel`s response. That shouldn`t have to be the case next time. With a couple of exceptions no one here is criticising Israel for responding, rather the question are they seriously going to let what Hamas does be an excuse for inflicting civilian casualties? Especially considering, obviously, that`s EXACTLY what Hamas expects. Ultimately the choice between civilian casualties and no civilian casualties is a false one.

@Draculya: It is not terrorism, because it is done in defense on their own land.

It is the Palestinian officials fault for hiding the missile batteries and other major military targets in civilian zones.

That, my friend, is a move of a coward.

@McG and you don`t consider what Israel is doing is terrorism? Killing mostly women and children and very few of the officially intended targets? Is it not terrorism just because they are using aeroplanes, drones and artillery? Or is it because they are an ally of the US?

It is terrorism, plain an simple.

The Israelites are the true stewards of that land. The fact that they now inhabit it is prophecy. Why screw with that? Just leave it be.

The only reason Arabs were settled there, was through force. Saladin conquered the Holy Land during the crusades. Before then, Christians and, wait for it, JEWS governed it. The allies took it back for them.

That would let Hamas win showing the world terrorism works. You think it`s land they want that`s an excuse what the want is to wipe jews off the face of the earth it`s pretty easy to see. Wipe Hamas out it`s the only solution.

Not true. Plenty of indigenous peoples living there. The Jews can continue to live in Palestine or migrate to the US and other countries that`ll welcome them with open arms. They can come here for all I care. They just shouldn`t be there. I sincerely regret my country`s role in putting them there and apologise on behalf of our nation.

I do find the election thing somewhat suspicious, especially since Netanyahu took a political hit for supporting Romney so strongly. Now that Israel is bombing Gaza, his popularity is at an all time high (heard that on NPR this afternoon).

I won`t go so far as to assert this as truth, since it`s not a factual statement. Just suspicious.

Israel wants those rockets fired in to justify the bombing and continue the conflict. Those rockets don`t even cause any damage, they are basically bottle rockets with an m80 attached to them. Look at how many times a lull in the conflict was interrupted by Israel firing onto Palestinians. Otherwise Israel becomes irrelevant and cannot get financial support from the US, and detiorates into the poohole it`s in.

Israel`s actions back Hamas` rhetoric unfortunately. It would be very suspicious if a govt claimed there was a battle within its borders even though zero gunshots were heard that day. At least any that would distinguish itself from the "noise" per se.

I think the problem is that the only way Hamas will go away is if there`s a revolt by their citizens. Unfortunately Hamas knows this so every once in a while they`ll attack Israel, Israel will respond in kind causing collateral damage. Then Hamas will have the citizens blame Israel for their suffering even though to an outside observer Hamas is primarily the guilty party. It`s a rather wretched catch-22 spiral. It will, eventually, undo itself.

He conveniently glossed over that people who lived there for centuries were displaced- And yes, as an American I`m opening myself up to criticism and comparisons from you-know-who, because America is apparently the root of all evil- be that as it may.
He also stated that Israel received international recognition; Not so much by the nations of that area, though- they didn`t want Israel at all.
Here is what I think as an American: It`s their problem, let them sort it out. There are plenty of human rights violations on all sides- no one side is completely right, no one side is completely wrong.
I just don`t want my government spending lives, resources and money on somebody else`s problem.
You-know-who, you have the floor.

I would also like to post this Op-Ed by Gershon Baskin, who is a co-chairman at the Israeli Palestinian Center for Research:

Link

`I was able to learn firsthand that Mr. Jabari wasn’t just interested in a long-term cease-fire; he was also the person responsible for enforcing previous cease-fire understandings brokered by the Egyptian intelligence agency. Mr. Jabari enforced those cease-fires only after confirming that Israel was prepared to stop its attacks on Gaza. On the morning that he was killed, Mr. Jabari received a draft proposal for an extended cease-fire with Israel, including mechanisms that would verify intentions and ensure compliance.`

The ordinary Palestinians disproportionately bear the brunt of this conflict. What I am calling for is even-handling of this dispute. If we`re going to call out Hamas for firing rockets at Tel Aviv, we need to also call out the government of Israel for a disproportionate military response.

By the way, targeting civilian infrastructure (water and power) is a violation of the fourth Geneva Conventio:

"Art. 53. Any destruction by the Occupying Power of real or personal property belonging individually or collectively to private persons, or to the State, or to other public authorities, or to social or cooperative organizations, is prohibited, except where such destruction is rendered absolutely necessary by military operations."

Not sure how you got that from me saying you are projecting but sure I absolutely dispute that. Your little ploy to pretend that most liberals are anti-semitic isn`t going to work on me.

`Israel is NOT calling for the mass deaths of Palestinians`

"Flatten all of Gaza. The Americans didn`t stop with Hiroshima – the Japanese weren`t surrendering fast enough, so they hit Nagasaki, too,"

No McGovern they did not contain hugs and kisses, but there is such a thing as using a sledge hammer on a nail, disproportionate force.

For what it`s worth (nothing) I do not condone either side firing missiles at each other, however you can`t ignore the context in which those missiles were fired-Israel`s reserving and acting on the right to make incursions into the strip of any size and at any time is counter to their claim that gaza is `no longer occupied` merely because they took away their bases there..

@liberkaos: That`s what you Europeans said during the Holodomor... and the Holocaust...
Israel is NOT calling for the mass deaths of Palestinians, but HAMAS sure is! And their Arabic, Muslim backers sure are too.

@onoffonoffon: You got that right! And the "west" swallows those propoganda photos like they were candy...

"West Bank Occupiers"
@CreamK: The UN officially lists them as "disputed territories" eh? A WORLD of legal difference! That`s why there are UN PEACEKEEPERS in the Golan Hieghts...

@madest = likes this video? *faints!*

Nice @MacGovern, as ever!
So that`s yours cause you took it over with an army and starved a certain religon out of the area but Israel should give it all back so Hamas can have more land to "kill the jews" on? LOL that`s a good one!
That drivel you`ve just made up has nothing to do with me. Stop pretending that your words are mine. It`s dishonest.

I`m talking about consistency and complexity, in response to people making hugely over-simplified arguments that are not at all consistent.
BTW Ireland and Scotland should be free as well [..]
Ireland has never been a country. It`s an island that has at various points in history been home to varying numbers of countries. There are no simple answers to the horrible mess that was caused by a virulent mix of religion and politics in Ireland.

Scotland is free. It voluntarily unified with England because it had gambled away its own economy on a badly planned and badly implemented pie in the sky scheme to catapult Scotland from a poor, powerless semi-feudal country to an imperial power. It needed English money to avoid bankruptcy. Post-unification, England (already an empire at that point) bailed Scotland out with boatloads of money. They`d already been partially unified for 100 years, anyway, and the rulers had been related since ~1100.

Do you think that every state in the USA should be "free" by your definition, i.e. secede from the union?

@markust: every fact he claims is true. He adds "humour" to avoid being a "lecture" eh?
Too bad your mind is so closed, you may have learned a thing or two.
Are you disputing that "leftists" support thePLO more than they support Israel? O`really?

@rocketbooster: According to the UN (you know, the guys who said Israel has "a right to exist"?) RULES: The existing settlements at the time of the `48 cease-fire have a RIGHT to natural growth & expansion.
I don`t see you calling for an end to Palestinian settlement expansion... or anyone else! But they TOO are doing just that!
Israel should give West bank back...
@CreamK: They TRIED! Oslo Accord? 90+% of ALL PLO demands were met? Including 95% of the WB! The PLO renegged, so now GAZA becomes "Palestine" and the West Bank part of Israel... "de facto" of course.
I`m going to guess you`re from the UK when do you plan on giving Northern Ireland back then?
Back to whom? Ireland wasn`t unified before, so it`s not a case of giving it *back*. The formal division of Ireland was a *result* of existing religious and political division, not the *cause* of it.

There`s a far, far stronger case for the USA giving back California, Nevada, Utah, Texas and parts of Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado and Wyoming. That actually would be giving it *back*, i.e. to the country that owned it before the USA took it by force.

As stated this video is incredibly biased, but poor Israel is only defending itself, in fact it has killed 96 people and 23 children in the name of `self defence` in the last six days..

People are being shelled in their homes whilst this moron works on his quirky editing & youtube sketches on the topic

Right.. If i condemn Israels actions on the WB i`m automatically evil.. Both sides are drating stupid, Israel should give West bank back and both sides should calm the drat down. They were given their own country and they fully deserved it back then but that does not justify for expansion.

If Israel didn`t control WB, then i`d support them as they would be defending them selves. Now they are occupiers and we all know how that works..

Both sides should be taken to Daddys knee and receive a good spanking..

In this conflict, both sides attempt to play their roles in an asymmetric conflict in an optimal manner.

However, in the end, it is clear who has taken and does _continue_ to take who`s land and resources. Palestinians fight ugly because they are more than cornered (and psychotic). Israel needs to pull back its settlers or it loses all credibility. It pretends to be a cop but acts like a bully.

Actually, I think they are right to bomb Hamas. But, they should act just as harshly against their settlers.
