You do know they discovered a few years ago that the 666 number is not actually related to "satan" but it is actually the number 616.

F.uck me sideways. Yes. There are people all over the world being raped, tortured, and murdered, but God has a vested interest in how well you throw a ball or carry it across a line.

Hey Tim, I gotta passage for ya: Mathew 6:6

"But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you."

    You self righteous dick-wad.

Well, he blesses the United States, apparently, as a shining light upon a hill, a beacon for all, or something. So, yeah, I guess blessing a little football, and Tim Tebow, isn`t out of the question. As for children dying, they`re clearly not Christians, poor little dead, but clearly not innocent, bastards.

merv, that is because there is not one single diety watching over this earth. In ancient times what they believed to be god`s were actually just advanced sentient being`s that explored our planet.

    "just because someone has belief"

He can have belief. Believe whatever you want. Have it quietly. It is the arrogance. How arrogant is it to think YOU have the power to glorify God. Supposedly God created the whole universe and everyone in it. How does it glorify him to play a game well?

Tonight I`m going to take a massive s.hit to glorify God.

I`ve always wondered how God chooses which team he wants to win. I saw an article a little while ago about some cheerleaders that were making religious banners. One of them said something along the lines of "if God is for us, who can be against us?"

... How can people be so stupid?

Let`s see. God, from the free dictionary:
A being conceived as the perfect, omnipotent, omniscient originator and ruler of the universe, the principal object of faith and worship in monotheistic religions.

And you can`t understand what he does?

    Seems perfectly reasonable.

Let me be clear. I don`t care WHAT his reason is. If God created a plan that involves allowing children to be tortured and raped and murdered then he can go f.uck himself. I`d rather go to hell than get on my knees for that God.

You can show and represent the glory of God in a loss as well. This isn`t about winning and losing. It`s about him just believing in God, and being so proud about it, he says it publicly. He is not trying to convert any of you. He is just being happy about his faith.

Also, HolyGod, everyone has the power to glorify God, if they believe.

"Glory to God". See, I glorified God.

    "atheist beliefs"

That phrase always annoyed me. People "believe" in the Easter Bunny. If I tell you I don`t think the Easter Bunny is real would you call that my "belief"?

Atheism is not a belief. It is a lack of belief. Everyone is born an atheist until people convince them to "believe" something else.

"You certainly seem to know everything."

I appreciate that. But no, I don`t know everything. I have to look lots of it up.

I beg to differ. I am born a child of God, and I learn about him, and choose to follow him.

You believe there is no God. That is your BELIEF, and you are entitled to it. I won`t persecute you, or make fun of you for it. I know that seems weird, since the Atheist way is to deride and belittle.

It always astounds me how much people are afraid of numbers. Back when I was a clerk, there were specific combinations of small items that would come out to $6.66, and without fail people would buy something else to change the total.

Cause the devil would steal their Twinkies, or something.

Be able to step out of the box though. From my perspective you can replace the word "god" with "tooth fairy" and the statement makes just as much sense to me.

"I am born a child of the tooth fairy, and I learn about her, and choose to follow her. You believe there is no tooth fairy. That is your BELIEF, and you are entitled to it."

Can you admit that if you were born in saudi arabia you`d probably be a muslim, if you were born in india you`d probably be a hindu, and if you were born in tibet you`d probably be budhist? You`d also be JUST as sure that you were right and knew the truth about god as you are now.

A belief is mental event the was formed from a person who is made of atoms that are mostly empty space. Empty space that is contained within our 4 readily understood dimensions. 4 dimensions out of a quantity that might as well be limitless. Beyond four dimensions it becomes increasingly difficult to comprehend. At which point it is either ignored or denied existence. Perhaps this is where belief lies, beyond our understanding and within our grasp.

    Yes. I can concur.

These religions (less so, Hindus) basically all worship the same God anyway. That worship is based on their culture.

Sorry about my belittle and deride comment from earlier. Being a believer, and knowing I`m not stupid, puts me on edge sometimes. You don`t know how frustrating it is to be called stupid, when I`m clearly not, based on a belief.

I never said that. How could you possibly take that from what I said.

The only reason I said Hindu less so, is because they worship multiple Gods.

I suppose Vishnu might be the Hindu equivalent of God. I don`t know enough about it.

It reminds me of a joke I once heard:

A man went to heaven and was being shown around by St. Peter.
As they went from cloud to cloud they came to various doors which
St. Peter would open. One showed a large group kneeling on the floor. "Our Muslims" he said.
Next was a serious ritual. "Our Jewish persuasion" he replied.
Then another ritualistic service. "Our Hindus".
At the next cloud, he didn`t open the door but instead put his
forefinger to his lips in the hush motion and they both tip toed
past.. Once past, the man asked what that was all about !?
"Those are the Christians", he explained. "They think they are the
    only one`s here".

    From this:

"These religions (less so, Hindus) basically all worship the same God anyway"

I took this to mean you were saying that the other religions are worshipping the right god, and the Hindus less so...meaning the wrong god (or not as right). Thusly, if they`re worshipping the wrong god, they`re doomed.

Were you trying to say something different?

Incidentally, certain segments of Hinduism are polytheistic, which is COMPLETELY incompatible with the god of Christianity/Islam/Judaism. If someone is born into that system, how is that fair?

"Those are the Christians", he explained. "They think they are the
    only one`s here"."

Funny joke. But perhaps they think they are the only ones allowed in Heaven because the bible specifically says so repeatedly.

    "Yes. I can concur. "

OK. So if you concur that your belief is a product of where you are born then you are admitting that it is what you believe because it is what you were taught. Therefore it is NOT because you are "born a child of God, and I learn about him, and choose to follow him."

I don`t know how you could possibly argue with the statement that you are "everyone is born an atheist". It is indisputable. The day you were born you did not believe in God. Had you been taken to an island and raised without anyone teaching you about God you would still be an atheist today.

I fully accept that god`s lack of existence is just my opinion. But please don`t speak in absolutes as if you know for a fact that God exists. Your belief that God exists is just as much an opinion.

"Kinda like Aliens. We don`t KNOW."

The universe verges on infinite. By definition infinity means all things that are possible are. That means two entities like us somewhere in the universe are having the exact same conversation, verbatim, but they are wearing different shirts. Mathematically it is almost certain that aliens exist, now whether there are ones that have been to our planet is certainly up for discussion.

""That last one will set you off."

It may surprise you to hear, but nothing really sets me off. I don`t have an emotional response to any of the debates on here. I just like the intellectual discourse. I never get angry really about anything in life. My existence is far too charmed to get angry.

Another thing that may surprise you is that I have studied religion. I have read the bible 3 times cover to cover with a highlighter. I`ve read the torah, I`ve read the quran. I`ve read the book of mormon. I`ve read books on the major easteren religions. For a period of 9 months I went to church every sunday and bible group every wednesday. I even chaperoned a youth church group. My opinion on religion does not come from a lack of knowledge or a disinterest is it.

I`d be interested as to what evidence you have that god is real.

But your god commands there is only one god. If the Hindus have more than one god, it doesn`t matter if one of them happens to be your god; they`re worshipping other gods too, and are therefore doomed for it.

So I ask again: how is it fair of your god to doom millions of people to torture for eternity for the crime of being unlucky enough to be born into the wrong culture?
