OldOllie, does it hurt to be so willfully uneducated? Do you know how much cancer treatment costs when gone undetected for say, a year, versus found at its earliest? Do you know how little the services at PP cost versus those treatments? Are you so concerned with one small part PP`s services that you don`t give a flying poo about fiscal responsibility?

Smagboy, if we want to violate the constitution and pay for cancer screenings, we could at least give the money to legitimate hospitals and radiology clinics and not to hack abortion mills.

OldOllie, the constitution makes no mention of payment for healthcare, for or against. It`s not "against" the constitution to fund health services for the greater good.

oldollie - lets take your claim that you are paying for abortion( which you are not) and go a step farther. you dont like it being done to someone else. first off, what gives you the right to deny it? you are effectively taking away their freedom of choice. they have to live with the consequences not you. secondly, what about after the kid is born. it was unwanted and probably end up being in the same system that you claim is socialism. it will be on food stamps and Medicare/Medicaid. it will eventually get free lunches and even unemployment. so to sum it up, you deny the RIGHT to terminate but also deny the chance of it growing up off of the street. this is the one of the fundamental problem i see with the right. you want children to live but also want nothing to do with them once they are born. you are just like a deadbeat dad so why dont you act like one and leave already. let the parents make the choice not you.

also you claim to want to give the money to hospitals. why? they are already a bloated organization that take away people hard earned money because of research. they do every test in the book for anything. i can understand that they are looking out for malpractice suits but do you really agree that the doctors should be paid as much as they do? why dont we just make the hospitals funded by the government and allow FREE healthcare like they do in just about every other country. or are you worried that they might help someone that doesnt deserve it? i guess what i am saying is that peoples health should not be profitalized. right now it is the same as the death pannels that you claim Obama wants. they deny service to people, they deny coverage to the ones that cant pay up, and they effectively tell people if they cant come up with extraordinary amounts of money, UP FRONT, they are going to die painfully. but all of this is ok with you because you dont want to help out.

yet the fact is you will also be under the same chopping block as the rest of us. you will be scrutinized and debated on the amount in your bank account. then even if you can afford it, how long will that hold out? how long before you put the rest of you family on the line just so you can pay for your $4000 a month shot to survive? right now this isnt a problem for you, but it is for millions of people. they have to choose whether or not to keep living and put their family in bankruptcy or choose to end it all. its easy to give an answer when you are not in their shoes, so dont even try.

"So this explains why I should have to pay for someone else`s abortion?"

3% of Planned Parenthood`s budget goes to abortions. Most of it goes to contraception, STD testing and treatment, cancer screenings, and healths services.

Planned Parenthood receives $363 Million in federal funds. $3.8 Trillion in federal spending. So Planned Parenthood gets .00955% of tax dollars.

Let`s say you pay $20,000 a year in taxes (which you probably don`t). Times that by .0000955. Less than $2 you pay in taxes goes to Planned Parenthood. Now times that by .03, leaving 6 cents out of your $20,000 in taxes going to Planned Parenthood abortions.

Now you can certainly say that on moral grounds you aren`t even ok with 1 penny going to abortions. I`m fine with that. But please don`t act like it is a fiscal issue.

"what about after the kid is born. it was unwanted and probably end up being in the same system that you claim is socialism."

No. I`m against abortion. Not having an abortion does NOT mean raising an unwanted child. Plenty of people are on waiting lists for adoption. People that will love and cherish and raise that child themselves.

    STOP making that argument.

HolyGod, while I agree that jops had a bad part of his/her argument there, the main point s/he was making still stands: conservatives seem to be against abortion at all costs, in all circumstances, no matter what, yet, as soon as the child is born, things seem to switch to condemning parents (women) who`ve had the children but couldn`t afford them, etc. They (conservatives) don`t generally support funding for social services for these (or any) people, or even for expanded opportunities for adoption. Yet, they`ll lose their freakin` minds over budget dust that does a great deal of public good.

holygod - so you want them to be put into the foster program. i can understand that but you fail to mention that the program is also funded by the government. it takes years for anyone to adopt and if they are there too long the chances of them going to a "nice home" goes down dramatically. in the meantime they are moved around from home to home or orphanage to orphanage until they turn 18 and a left to fend for themselves. they still get put into these socialist programs. btw, the parents receiving these kids get healthy compensation from the government to help raise the child. i personally know one couple who addopted two kids. they were from a crack head and they suffer the after-effects (such as deterorating teeth). all of the medical bills are paid for by the state, they also get around $1000/month/kid until they turn 18. so for you who believe in social conservatism, what is better, allowing all of this money to be spent or the small cost of a single treatment.

also as for funding abortions, the people who make the tough choice to terminate have to pay around $500 to $1000 just to do it. it is not free, it is not funded, and the original argument is false because it is not on the taxpayers dime.

also just for your information, i do not condone abortion. i dont agree with it but it is not my place to tell someone they cant do it. it is their choice, they have to live with the guilt and they have to live with any reticule. if they asked for my opinion i would try to persuade them to keep it but i dont agree with people pushing their religious ideals on government programs. there is a separation of church and state for a reason. people should not be forced by public opinion on personal matters, simple as that. it would be the same if the government forced us all to not have sex until marriage. it is not in their power to do that and frankly if it was, you might as well call the government a dictatorship.

"so you want them to be put into the foster program"

Huh? Where the hell did I say that?

Adoption. Put them up for adoption. Give them to a loving family that desperately wants a child. A family that will raise them as their own without asking the government for ANYTHING.

My aunt and uncle are a college educated upper middle class couple. They are kind, loving, affectionate people. They were waiting on adoption lists for 3 years. They finally adopted my cousin and raised him without a penny from the government. He is a happy, smart, talented, well adjusted kid. He could have easily been aborted.

In my opinion, with as many people as there are that want to adopt there is never a need for an abortion unless the pregnancy is a mental or physical danger to the mother.

"i dont agree with people pushing their religious ideals on government programs"

Don`t let the name fool you, it`s sarcastic. I am a life long atheist. I don`t see how killing a baby is a religious issue. It is a moral one and religion doesn`t own morals.

"i dont agree with it but it is not my place to tell someone they cant do it."

In my opinion, it is the government`s place to say they can`t just as much as it is the government`s place to say they can`t kill it the day before it is born or the day after.

Conservatives also forget about those 9 months it takes to get the baby. If I got pregnant, how would I work my typical 12+ hour days in another state? Not to mention the health risks and permanent toll on my body you are forcing me to take on because you can`t mind your own dang business. I take as many precautions as I can to avoid pregnancy short of living like a nun. But the possibility of pregnancy is still there and I want the ability to take care of that unfortunate situation in a safe way.

If you are calling me a conservative you obviously haven`t read most of my posts on here.

"I take as many precautions as I can to avoid pregnancy"

If you are on the pill and use condoms risk of pregnancy is virtually nill. Condoms are 98% effective and birth control is 99.9% effective when used properly. That means if you use both your odd of getting pregnant are roughly .002%. That is 1 in 50,000. Considering you are over 40 it is probably even lower.

"isn`t it blasphemy to call yourself "HolyGod"?"

Yes. Absolutely. Kinda the point. I am an atheist and view religion as a plague on humanity. Christians don`t have a patent on thinking it is wrong to kill an unborn baby.

It`s easy to tell others not to do something that you don`t need to.

I always thought that abortion is kinda sad, but still a right for women. The simple truth, not all pregnancies result in childbirth. Therefore, abortion cannot be considered murdered because there is no guarantee the "group of cells" would make it thru the birthing process.

Now if every single pregnancy resulted in childbirth, it would be a different story.

Exactly. Under the 10th amendment, that makes it unconstitutional.

you are effectively taking away their freedom of choice.
Taking away a government subsidy is not taking away choice. If liberals want to kill off the next generation of liberals, I couldn`t care less. However, there are some who have deeply held beliefs that abortion is murder, and it is immoral to confiscate their money under threat and use it for that purpose.

Not really. I`m not taking their freedom of choice of having sex without taking precautions as to not getting pregnant.

Choices have consequences. If you rob a bank, you go to jail, yet no one is exactly preventing from robbing a bank, now is there?

Don`t get me wrong though, I support abortions in some cases such as rape, and if there is a physical and/or mental issue with the child and/or mother.

I`m with lauriloo. I`m not saying conservatives, but a lot of people, especially those who are incapable of the very thing an abortion ceases, like to forget about what goes on prior to a child being born.

I kinda understand not supporting the abortion of a pregnancy that resulted in stupidity, but if a woman really were trying to not get pregnant and got pregnant anyway (accidents DO happen; condoms break, pills get missed), why should she be forced to put her body through that kind of stress for a child she doesn`t even want? It`s really just asking for a bad situation all together.

People who don`t/can`t (and never will) have children have no right to tell a woman how she chooses to deal with a pregnancy. It`s easy for you to say, "Oh just have the baby!" because, well, you don`t ever have to worry about being pregnant or giving birth. Trust me, there`d be a lot more abortions than there are now if certain people had to experience "the miracle of
