Reminded me of what my friend did once while going out to a bar. Wrote on her arm "If found, please call *friend`s cell* or return to *dorm name for campus*".

That almost made me choke on my breakfast @5cats. Sorry but looking back at your track record I can count the number of positive things you`ve said about the left on the one hand of a bad shop teacher.

Now matter how beautiful you think she is,
Now matter how much you`re both in love,
Now matter how great she is in bed,
In the long run,
She`s just going to make you take out the garbage...

tsiemens:
"few non religious people support marriage anymore, unless of course you are gay in which case "let us marry now dammit""
----------

You couldn`t be more wrong, tsiemens. As is the case with casdidhe, my wife and I are both Atheists. We were married back in 1998, at city hall. Getting married was important for us because it means making a life long commitment to the one you love. It`s saying that "I love you and I want to spend the rest of my life with you. I don`t want to be with anyone else".

Take the religion out and you still have a wonderful, happy marriage that is still going strong after 14 years.

You can suggest that "non-religious" people aren`t interested in marriage, but the fact that there are at least two people, just on this forum, that ARE interested, means there are MANY, MANY more of us out there.

I`m an atheist married to another atheist. Our marriage vows which we wrote were important to us. Marriage is an individual thing and the reasons for marrying are as varied as the people who marry. I imagine that lots of married and unmarried couples have great relationships and equally lots of married and unmarried couples have hideous relationships.

"no inherent need to pass on genes"

Yes, you are a woman. Men however feel the need to pass on genes all day every day :p Biological programming at work.

Marriage is a nice little ideal; but it`s also nonsense and goes against our very nature.

Of course, going against our nature is pretty much the definition of `Civilization`.

All things considered (and this was a highly condensed post) marriage is a bad idea.

"For a woman, marriage is the beginning. For a man, marriage is the end"

Not sure where I got that quote from but it`s certainly got a good deal of Truth in it :p

That kind of rational is irritating... That`s the base instinct of any species really, protect the population, and there are several out there who mate for life. Way back when when the animals were big enough and numerous enough to have a chance at wiping out the human race sure, but if anything now our population is so large it that that kind of logic is, well, illogical. While there is still competition there is no lack of mates, no inherent need to pass on genes (there are a lot of people who will already, though that`s not to say it`s not enjoyable), there are still traits which are deemed attractive or not but it`s no longer the strongest or the fastest who only get the girls anymore.

I personally don`t care about marriage, whatever, but I feel that it`s just a poor excuse for commitment issues or polyamory.

Also the last person I met who believed that was a child abandoning ass but...

Sorry you were just stating your opinion, I just felt the

Though I fully agree with you, if he had Alzheimer`s and out in public (at what appears to be a restaurant? maybe cruise?) I would keep a better eye on him >> I think it`s kinda cute, but then there`s no way to tell if he likes it or is just complying with her wishes.

@Solvent: YES I AGREE! Oh drat, I`m doing it wrong...

VV @AJ: I bet you don`t ever gamble! lolz!

@HG: How about: I`m a right-winger who likes libertarianism? It`s pointless to brand me a Republican because I figure each issue out for myself, regardless of what some "political party`s platform" is.
I was asking 5Cats because he is a straight line republican.
Nope! @HolyGod: I self-identify as a Libertarian who leans right. I seriously do NOT support everything the Repubs have done since Bush-I, eh?

Drugs: Legalize it! Pot, opium, pills too! But absolutely pot!
Prostitution: It`s already quasi-legal, especially in Canada. Let`s end the charade and legalize (tax!) it!
Gambling: It`s already legal, pretty much everywhere, usually Gov`t run, eh?

There ARE plenty of places Gov`t should act, and with powerful LAWS behind them, obviously!

Marriage, pot, hookers and lottery don`t go away if you pass laws against them. Period.

"What`s your take on getting married, I-A-B?"

Well, it goes against our genetically controlled impulses. On a genetic standpoint, it is in our best interest to mate with as large a variety as possible in order to ensure the survival of offspring and our genetic line.

From my understanding you are a straight line libertarian, so I knew your answer to the question. It happens to be my stance 100%. I was asking 5Cats because he is a straight line republican. Republicans always seem to be for smaller government and less intervention EXCEPT when it comes to legislating morality.

Best years of my life were when I was married. Damned good in my opinion. What is bad, is the widower part now.

Absolutely. Someone taking part in these actions does not infringe upon my rights in any manner. Therefore, I have no right to infringe upon theirs by restricting these actions.

Makes escape much more difficult...

I like the IDEA of marriage, even gay or plural, but few people are actually mature enough for it to work in the long run.

The gov`t should get out of it as much as possible. Fewer laws = better.
