Of course Eyes are gunna roll whenever Disney gets involved with anything, but they have the massive amounts of money/resources/talent necessary to keep the franchise going.
Disney took over Marvel just a few years ago and the movies they`ve put out since have been fairly watchable, not oscar winning, but hey.. they`re superhero movies.
And although everyone also love to roll their eyes whenever anyone mentions remakes,
maybe it`s time to consolidate the hundreds of story arcs involved in the Star Wars universe and bring it back to basics, correct some of the mistakes (Jar Jar and Anakin? Midi-drating-chlorians?)... I don`t think there`s all that much wrong with eps IV-VI, but they finally have a chance to redeem the entire series and set it up for future (and past) storylines.

I dunno.. just sayin`.. maybe this could be the best thing to happen to star wars in a long time..?

I still have respect for the guy, how he created an amazing, detailed universe, on a relatively small budget, with some unforgettable characters that are still loved after 35 years. even if you didn`t like the SW movies, you can`t deny the massive impact lucasfilm has had on the visual effects that drive movies today...

But I don`t think he has any real idea how to balance the franchise between the older adult fans and the new, how to keep it simple or what direction to go with the overall story.
It`s time he passed the torch on to someone who will do it justice, hopefully Mickey and his mates will treat the series with care and respect.

Nvm, after some reading, apparently the 7th movie will be completely original in story, so probably none of the books will apply, which sucks, because Thrawn was a favourite character of mine.

I would much rather this than the unimaginative reboots and remakes of movies that were made 10 years ago.

Also have you ever noticed how, when looking at a full laundry bin, you can never know if there was once a Jedi in there?

How exactly are they going to make Star Wars 7 now that all the actors are old balls? I read some of the books after the original trilogy, and they were all about Luke, Han & Leia and their kids...

Lucas joined the dark side long ago butchering his classics. Seven will just beat a dead horse for every penny they can get.

"Episode SEVEN? Where does that fit?!"

The imperials did not die with Cideous getting tossed into the reactor. The rest of the story was in novels and comics.

Star Wars 4 was a comic before it was a movie.
There is a whole other story line that occurs 4000 years before the Battle of Yavin called "The Old Republic."

There`s lots of stuff he didn`t get into like why that galaxy is like it is with the Force and why humans dominate.

My opinion is he had enough for 15 to 20 movies and just let it sit.
The outer time line is 24000 years long and he concentrated only on 2 spots in the last 4000 years of it.

Most of those things have happened in one form or another. Lucas hasn`t exactly been kind to his franchise...jar jar binks. Taking the franchise out of Lucas` hands is the best thing that could have happened to it.

Also "when" people love Love it? Do you live under a rock that also lives under another rock? Stars wars has been mainstream since it`s birth. It`s one of the highest grossing movie franchises of all time. Everybody already loves Star Wars. Or do the countless Star wars themed books, toys, video games, conventions, cartoons, comic books, manga, dishware, jewelry, coloring books, food, music, cosplay, board games, clothes and other merchandise not a big enough clue?

I saw a lot of the same reactions from comic book nerds when Disney bought Marvel, then we got the Avengers and people loved it. Relax nerds, there is very little Disney can do to hurt the franchise that Lucas hasn`t already done himself.

I think you are being unfair Crakr. Disney is good at letting the people that run their properties continue to do their thing. ESPN is just as good as ever. Pixar still rocks. Marvel is still doing good movies and comics. Disney doesn`t micromanage.

I don`t know. On the one hand, Disney. On the other hand, they`re taking it away from George Lucas so he can`t destroy it anymore...

What? You think they`re gonna make WORSE Star Wars films than the latest three?

Time for Lucas to move on, wish he`d done it 10 years ago.

""A Disneyesque Star Wars"

"Like e[episode 1?"

Episode 1 was in no way Disneyesque. It was a dark mindless film about interplanetary politics which made no sense, who`s comedy relief was a dismal failure. And when it was realized that that all failed it was an excuse to say it was a kids film. Kids films don`t have genocide.

I actually agree with the optimists here. Lucas already soiled his own legacy, much to the chagrin of his own fans. How bad could it possibly get with Disney at the helm?

I love that people automatically think this is a bad thing, just because the name "Disney" is attached to it. I think they have proven themselves excellent stewards of other franchises. The Muppets and Marvel haven`t gone to poo. I say Bravo for maybe being able to breathe life into a stale, cold hand of death that Lucas drove his vision to.

A Disneyesque Star Wars is going to suck. But it won`t suck as bad as the raping Speilberg and Lucas did to Indiana Jones.

"They" wont make another movie... Disney will. This is only a good thing. Lucas always got too much credit and when left to his own choices only ever made bad ones. The movies may not be great but they will be better than anything Lucas stood to make. I also imagine Disney will release the original un-drated with trilogy to dvd/blueray because they only stand to profit from it where as it was a mark of shame for Lucas.

Hey, this might be a good thing. Look what Disney did with The Avengers!

Lucas`s creativity died somewhere (see Episodes 1 and 2 for evidence). Disney has some creative folks. I`ll give them a chance.
