I am saddened that you all think it is that fair. A few votes here and there can swing the whole thing, after that it is decided by the electoral college, not by you.

markust: You seemed to be quoting the numbers from Zira`s NYT link.

But one of the problems with your RCP link is that over half the polls are pre-debate polls and the Gallup poll began before the debate.

That leaves Rasmussen as the only all post-debate poll right now.

"I wouldn`t go believing those NY Times numbers. They got the 2010 congressional elections wrong and people were stunned."

NY Times? They weren`t even in the main list of polls I linked to. I was talking about Rasmussen and how deceitful they are right up until the week of an election. If I had said Rasmussen four times instead of three would you have figured it out?

It really doesn`t matter. All this arguing is for nothing. Obama is so popular he is sitting at 237 electoral votes. He only needs 33 swing state votes to win. Mitt needs 46 just to catch up. Even if Romney wins Florida and North Carolina he still would need 2 more votes to catch up. Good luck with all that.

Crakrjak, Rasmussen is very good the last week before the elections, but they are in the hand of the Republicans the rest of the time. Look at the polls right now. Everyone else has Obama up around +3, one has a tie, but Rasmussen has Romney +2. Scott Rasmussen is such a scum he will do anything to get his poll in the news, and that includes manipulating the numbers to put the Republican candidate in the lead.

Sorry, I don`t believe that. But you keep believing that of me, it makes you appear that much more of a fool.

madest & lillian: Rasmussen: Romney 49% Obama 47%

That one counts very well. Link

The excuses the Obama team is making for his poor showing are pretty lame and the voters aren`t falling for it.

Also the October surprise came twice yesterday for Obama.

Unemployment is down to 7.8% the lowest it as been in four years. A strong holiday shopping prediction is going to drive up season hiring which will make the October numbers very strong so don`t count on bad news there. That report will be release the friday before the Presidential vote.

The Deficit is down to $1.1T the lowest it has been in four years and is projected to be $900B next FY. Although slowly, under Obama we are pulling out of this recession.

Spin spin spin those numbers it won`t make your lies true:
Fox News: Jobless rate dips under 8%, but is number real

The economy is recovering under Obama and the people are starting to feel it. Obama will come back fighting the second debate like history has shown with sitting presidents. Obama will win.

"Kerry never came within a mean person-hair of Bush in the polls, but Romney is one October Surprise away from winning."

Romney hasn`t come close to winning in the Gallup polls. Kerry also won his first debate. The only difference is Kerry`s win pushed him ahead in the polls momentarily. Romney`s win has done nothing. Yesterdays Gallup results are in and Obama is at 49%, Romney 46%. So I guess you are right. Romney is not like Kerry, he`s worse.

AJ, I think you`re being a little too optimistic about Romney. It`d take Obama MAJORLY screwing up within a month for Romney to pull ahead.

CJ, or you can check the gallup poll

Tuesday, October 2: Obama 49 Romney 45
Thursday, October 4: Obama 50 Romney 45

Obama increased by 1 post-debate, Romney stayed the same, despite Romney "winning".

National Journal Poll:
Tuesday, October 2: Obama 49 Romney 45 O+4
Thursday, October 4: Obama 46 Romney 47 R+1

It`s a good thing jamie didn`t bet me. That`s a 5 point positive swing to Romney.

All you butt-hurt libs are so pathetic. "Romney cheated!" "Romney lied!" "It was the altitude." `Obama was afraid to sound like an `angry black man.`"

The fact is, this is the first serious debate Obama has had in his entire life, and he just wasn`t up to it. That`s all.

Eastwood debated an empty chair, and Romney debated an empty suit. Now the whole world is finding out what many of us have know for at least 4 years: Obama = SCOAMF.

What is amazing is how desperate the cons are for a non-Obama that they will support such a huge liar and flip-flopper. Or were your screams of flip-flop against John Kerry just for show? Your candidate is horrible. A thousand times worse than Obama because no one knows where he stands.

The rich, everyone. My point was he did a complete 180 in the debate from the day before and said he was not going to lower taxes on the rich. So which Romney is lying? The Romney who has been saying it for six months or the Romney that said it for one night? One of them is a liar. Will the real Mitt Romney please stand up.

ferdyfred-"guy who miss-pelt America"

So you`re saying Romney personally wrote the app? More prove he`s more capable that Obama.

ferdyfred-"questioned why jet planes don`t have opening windows"

And Obama thought he debated an imposter. Are we taking all jokes at face value?

Madest`-"He`s a tax cheat"

Proof? (Harry Reid doesn`t count).

markust123-"He has been telling audiences for over 6 months that he is going to lower taxes on the rich"

No, he`s been telling audiences for over 6 months that he is going to lower taxes on ALL TAXPAYERS!! Only in a liberal mind (i.e. blank) does that equate `tax breaks for rich people only`.

Can`t quite face the fact that Obama sucked balls because he`s never been asked a difficult question, and he can`

President Obama had a hell of a good news day:

-The FY2012 Deficit is projected to be 1.1T down from 1.3T last year. Not enough but it is going in the right direction.
-The unemployment rate dropped to 7.8%. The first time it has been under 8% in 4 years.
-His campaign broke two campaign records in September. They are estimated to have brought in $150M+ for the month, and they have raised money from over 10M individual donors.
-In the Gallup poll results from 10/4 Obama went up 49% to 50% after a horrible debate and the winner remained the same at 45%.

@ferdyfred:
Is he that bad? Not getting too many good reports over in the UK
He`s a typical US politician - so yes. Romney is a bad candidate that will say whatever he thinks needs to be said in order to win, even if he has no intention of fulfilling his promises.

That being said, Obama is the same way. Think of the countless promises he has broken so far. It`s not going to matter who wins as long as it is a mainstream politician; the results will be the same.

The only politician currently running who has been consistent and honest so far is Gary Johnson (Disclaimer: I`m not considering Stein). Unfortunately, he will not win (though there are still beneficial reasons to vote for him).

Another huge example of Romney`s inconsistency was at the debate. He has been telling audiences for over 6 months that he is going to lower taxes on the rich. He was very consistent actually right up until the debate. Then suddenly overnight he was not going to lower taxes for the rich. That is a dramatic one day switch. I`m not giving excuses but you could see Obama do a WTF?

"Is he that bad? Not getting too many good reports over in the UK"

What makes Romney so bad is he does not have a consistent stance on almost anything. He stays solid on social issues but everything else he is all over the map depending on what day and what audience he is in front of. John Kerry did the same thing. It was maddening. How can you trust or know how he will lead if he doesn`t give you consistent views? Worse he throws out these bullets but doesn`t give any specific information. There is a thing called the internet where he could give people information. Obama does it for all his plans. An example is the loopholes Romney wants to close. That`s great, let`s close loopholes but he hasn`t given one example of a loophole he would close. Is he going to close the loopholes that affect the poor, the middle class or the rich? No one knows. He is the blind leading the blind.

patchouly, it`s mostly to sway undecided people rather than decided people. I was watching it with my boyfriend who had no idea who to vote for and afterward he still has no idea who to vote for. He said he still doesn`t know what either of their positions are and probably isn`t going to bother voting at all <_< It might have been influenced by me pointing out when they were telling lies though, not sure...

I`m a tree-hugging liberal and, a) I don` think Romney cheated, and, b) I don`t care if he did. I mean, it`s not like a qualification for that job is rote memory in 90 minute bursts. A president should *always* take in as much information as possible and as much as is available at any given time. And they shouldn`t be required to answer every question on every subject as if they know everything without being allowed to refer to notes. That`s why we have aids and computers and counsels, etc. Who cares if the man wrote on his hankie (not that I think he did). They both should have been able to use an iPad or whatever!

"yes Romney won the dabte...mostly because Obama has a really bad off night."

That is the funny part about this whole thing. Romney is such a bad candidate that his best debate just barely beat Obama`s worst debate. Romney is as bad a candidate as John Kerry was. Love watching all the cons pretend they have a good candidate when they know in their heart he is just awful.

I sense a good and thorough investigation by the IAB`ers here, or as things are known round here, a good old flamer. Personally as a Brit, the BBC seem to be on Obama`s side. As they do tend to pick up on Romneys feck ups, to be fair he does tend to trip up quite often. Dont blaze me, just reading the beebs reports on him, and various newspapers over here

It doesnt take a cheater to figure out that they might ask u about this. So unless he clearly flashed both sides of that hankey to the public there is still speculation that he had notes on the inside portion. Plus...if it was just a hankey how come he threw it on the table since the beginning. Usually u only need it when sweating. Still possible and shows how sneaky he is

the debates are to convince people to switch votes
its to try to sway people who havent decided who they will vote for
of course, its october and the elections are about a month away. people who still havent decided who to vote for are likely so indecisive they will switch their vote 50 times from now and the actual election for just about any reason they can come up with.
