Submitted by: fancylad 4 years ago

Southern Baptist minister, Graham bought an entire page of the Wall Street Journal to tell us to vote the biblical way.

Only with conditions or strings. Like the soup kitchen that dissed Paul Ryan or the pizza guy who bear hugged Obama, you`d be the first to cut them off. It`s exactly why we need a safety net so that the needy don`t pay the price of christian conservative nonsense. This Billy Graham is a tyrant. He uses his pulpit to tell his flock who`s acceptable and who`s not. It almost makes me wish there would be a God so Billy boy could burn for all eternity.

HG: I believe you missed Jesus` message completely. So you aren`t qualified to judge the good that churches do.

All you did was go through the motions of being a Christian, you didn`t take that leap of faith.

Even though I`m poor, I`d still give the shirt off my back if someone needed it.

Billy Graham has given more to others than I can ever hope to, I believe he deserves some respect.

"I`d like to see research showing this. I think you are lying, or just making things up because you want them to be true."

Research on what? It is common sense. How do you think churches pay for the buildings? How do you think they pay their electric bills? How do you think they pay their pastors. How do you think the vatican got built with its giant murals, gold gilded pillars, and marble floors? Donations. Tithing.

If Jesus were real and came back he would be ashamed at how badly people missed his message.

----------
Charity is not Mitt`s forte. Sending brainwashed kids door to door selling the make believe life of latter day saints is hardly charity. It`s annoying. The money Mitt earns is tax payer money. While he`s out single-handedly destroying Americas manufacturing sector and sending the jobs overseas we the taxpayer are left paying for his devastation. From depressed towns, unemployed workers, bankruptcies and even suicides Mitt is a man who has no shame. He smiles takes his millions and never looks back. He is the devil incarnate and snake oil salesman Billy Graham just made a deal with him. They`re both turds and if they represent you my point has been made.

"Churches run most of our countries food banks and run most of the free clinics as well. Your portrayal is off the mark. I`ve been homeless and had to rely on food banks and a free medical clinic. This is another time where my experience trumps your lame portrayal."

You misunderstand. Churches do a lot of good. However only a portion of what they get goes to actually helping people. The rest goes to building churches, paying church staff, overhead, the pope`s awesome hats, etc. Think of how many more people could be helped if people gave that money directly to the food banks and free clinics.

Look at what the mormon church does with its money, running ad campaigns, building giant palaces, and sending people around the world to knock on doors.

Let`s say Jesus did come back. Do you think he would approve of the opulent Mormon temple in Salt Lake City? Of course not.

"Conservatives still give more money and time to charity than liberals do"

Only if you count churches and ballets and opera houses. If you just look at money that helps the sick and the poor that isn`t true. Romney gave almost all his "charity" to the Mormon church so they could fight gay marriage in california, build giant opulent churches, and send people around the world to knock on people`s doors.

Do you REALLY consider that charity?

Ummmm. Who are you addressing? It seems aimed at me.

"you just need someone to agree with you so you feel better about being an atheist."

This post has nothing to do with being an atheist. If I was Hindu, Christian, or a Scientologist I would STILL rail against people using their personal religious views to push an agenda of bigotry and exclusion.

"Also, its funny how quickly you will reference an article that points out hypocrisy without ever questioning the authenticity of the article "

The article is accurate. The story is all over the place, not just one spot.

Keep up the good work, HG and Smag! I just love seeing Crakr get his ass handed to him! lol.
Reason and logic will eventually win out over bronze age fairy tales. What the hell makes them think that their particular cult is the only one that has it right, out of the 1000`s of others?

Also, its funny how quickly you will reference an article that points out hypocrisy without ever questioning the authenticity of the article which was obviously written to garner political and financial support. Two things that clearly never foster corruption. The Bible talks more about these evils than you do, Sometimes it`s ok to blame the player not the rules or the game!

Well, I think there are a lot more atheists. I think the internet is the free spread of knowledge and when knowledge spreads religion reseeds. People may be scared to admit they are atheists to others, and I absolutely agree with that, but I think they are perfectly comfortable saying they are atheists in anonymous polls.

How so? About religion? I`ve studied religion. I`ve prayed. I spent almost a year going to church and bible study every week. I was a youth group leader. I gave religion a chance before I made up my mind, and my mind is still open to change.

I wonder if there are an abnormally larger number of atheists here, or if, what would make a lot more sense, the Internet allows people more opportunity to speak their actual mind without fear of direct and very real repercussions from those who seek to impose their personal views on ALL of society. We`re growing in numbers without even making an effort to do so because the real world, when actually engaged in and learned about, examined and tested is more amazing than even the most supernatural of tales from the minds of Bronze Age Fear Merchants.

papajon0s1, have people here been bashing Christians, or bashing Mullah Billy Graham for taking out a full page ad in a major newspaper, using tax-free money, by the way, to willfully and knowingly misrepresent the Bible (or, at the very least, interpret it in a way that is without any definitive justification) regarding the idea of "marriage", thereby discriminating directly against millions of taxpaying citizens of this country who`ve never done a thing to him or to other Christians. Is it NOT Christian bashing to call out hypocrisy, bigotry and hate.

The only think I hate is bigotry. THAT is what I attack, not christians, but the bigotry they perpetuate. I think religion is stupid, and belief in it ignorant, but I COMPLETELY support your rights to have it. If someone ever tried to make you a second class citizen for being religious because of their beliefs I would fight against them just like I do when christians try to make gays second class citizens.

My message has always been that everyone should be treated with the same rights. How is that HATING? Your message is that some people should be treated differently. THAT is hate.

Yes. But getting larger every day. Thank God. You think atheism is bad? Move to the middle east, very few atheists there. In fact many countries are ruled by holy men or by the rules of holy texts. It works out great.

"insulting monicker"

Insulting to who? It is in reference to my icon, Zeus. You don`t own the word god, despite what Christians like to think. There are thousands of gods.

"Billy Graham has done more to better this world in one year, than you`re ever likely to do in your lifetime."

Perhaps. He does a lot of bad though that balances it out. I don`t spread hate, bigotry, and exclusion at all. But I`d put a whole lot of money on the fact that I do more to help people than you do.

So any non-sexually deviant divorced woman who remarries is an adulturer? Seems legit.

DromEd, do you understand what tolerance means? Graham just printed an entire page ad discounting a portion of our population, attempting to subjugate them to second class citizens by defining "Biblical Marriage" per his OWN definition, not God`s, not the Bibles. So, defending those people by saying he`s bigoted dratnut isn`t intolerant. It`s a statement against one man`s bigotry against millions of people. That you refuse to accept that doesn`t change the definition of the word.
