As an adult, I don`t think a government should be directly participating in funding a network. Period.

Just pay for yourself you POS. The merchandising must bring in a fortune. What happens to that money?

All Romney said is he wants to cut funding for PBS, he never said he wanted to do away with the network or "kill Big Bird". That`s more lefty idiocy. Like most here, PBS et al should run on their own merit. End of story.

PBS was the only way I would have experienced Sesame Street, Electric Company, Monty Python, Mister Rogers, many science shows and more. I highly doubt PBS and the national endowment for the arts the government pays is a significant portion of the national debt but having it adds to our quality of life. PBS is constantly having fund drives so I highly doubt they would be able to sustain themselves without some help from the gov. They would have to start churning out crap programming like Honey Boo Boo and start having commercials.

I think you fail to distinguish between a network and a show on that network. If PBS dies, Sesame Street will go somewhere else and people will have to pay to see it because it won`t be on the general airwaves anymore. PBS was created so people who can only afford free tv programming have access to quality shows. And it would be a place for things like the arts and educational programming that won`t draw the crowds like Jersey Shore -type crap does but is worth having because it keeps us a somewhat civilized society and not an idiocracy.
