Stripped, bitten, and beaten for stealing a candy bar. Was it worth all this on either end?

I`m not sure if it`s legal for them to physically restrain him, it`s not citizen`s arrest so they may indeed "Shut dis store down!"

harsh? maybe by today`s standards. they used to cut off the hands of thieves. now that was harsh. at the end of the day, i can`t really feel sympathy for the thief. not saying clerks were in the right (all okay except biting as far as i can see), but at the end of the day: JUST DON`T STEAL! easy as that if you dont want to find yourself in this situation

With the very important exception of the "broke man/woman stealing a loaf of bread to feed his/her starving family," sympathy for thieves = Zero.

They were holding onto his clothes so he wouldn`t get away. He should`ve just stopped and realized he got cauhgt.

Awwwwww yeah!

Also: the lady in the green top has one huge arse.
And the guy talking smack in the middle? Sure, go ahead and call the cops - so they can apprehend the thief, you little racist twit.

Biting him might be a bit over the top.
One shouldn`t satisfy one`s fetishes at work.

I bet it was worth it for the store and the rest of humanity. The shoplifter has not been humiliated and will think twice before doing it again. Also, I bet the store will have less problems with shoplifters in the area.

" Plus, I doubt that now he`s ever going to try it again. "

Oh come on, of course he`ll be back to stealing stuff as soon as he`s back on the streets. you don`t think it`s either the first time he`s been caught stealing or the first time he`s even been in a scuffle do you?

it was a snickers, it`s not like he`s stealing food to feed his family - he just saw something he wanted, didn`t want to pay for it, so took it.

one employee maybe went a little too far with the biting his back when he was already pretty much restrained, but just holding him and trying to stop him from running away isn`t excessive use of force - no one was punching him in the face whilst he was held were they? It wasn`t a beating.

Ha! This is the video to the story I read about. One of the employees was fired (probably the back biter) and two others were assigned to "retraining". The police came and they did arrest the culprit because he had a previous warrant.

A thief is a thief. If that was my store, I would have whipped his @ss for LESS than a candy bar, simply to make an example of him.

The tape is going to be completely useless in any lawsuit he filed. He makes it quite clear that he HAD stolen something when he "adjusted" his story from "I don`t have nothin`" to "I don`t have nothin` ELSE".

With this footage, the criminal will be able to sue that store for 1000s without a problem.

This is why they tell most cashiers at retail places to NOT pursue or try to apprehend criminals, if you aren`t trained and schooled in exactly what you can and cannot do, lawsuits will smash you 100 times more than any petty theft would.

Ya give em a reason to bust out a shotgun. If anything was learned from the LA riots it`s don`t f**k with asian shop keepers! They don`t f**k around!!

Gerry & Crakr, I know he had something at some point. I was just commenting on Gerry`s
"`Cause if you say "I don`t have nothin" enough times over and over they`ll believe you."

-by the time we started seeing what was going on, he really didnt have anything else. Also, while he was stripped naked, he was still screaming it. I was just saying that by that point, I believed him.

You might say it`s too harsh, but we don`t have context. That kid could`ve been coming in and doing that every day for all we know. Plus, I doubt that now he`s ever going to try it again. Problem solved.

Cobra: He dropped the candy bar as he tried to flee from being caught, it`s right there on the floor in the video.

The people there are pissing me off. You caught him stealing Snickers. Okay, remember him and dont let him back in your store. You destroyed way more sh*t to try to detain him. As far as the bystanders; if you feel he`s being wronged, help him. Don`t stand there and talk sh*t about somebody should help him or "Call the Police" while you watch and/or record the event.

Everyone within the walls of that store were f*cking stupid.

The answer is groin kicks. Either to the thief or the employees. It would have ended quickly either way.
