Are you more honest than a banker? Under what circumstances would you lie, or cheat, & how does it effect society?

Bahaha. Perhaps you should read the book "The Hitchhiker`s Guide to the Galaxy" and you`ll understand that those books are FICTION.

"Perhaps you should read the book "Lord of The Flies" and you`ll understand how a society can degenerate into immorality without guidance."

Those kids were portrayed as upper crest military academy students. They would have been raised with morals. Their society broke down because there was no parental guidance. It had nothing to do with morals or church.

"Morality does not come from within, it is taught. Perhaps you should read the book "Lord of The Flies" and you`ll understand how a society can degenerate into immorality without guidance."

You`ve almost got it. Morality is taught to us by our parents starting from the time we are toddlers. My parents raised my brother and I with very strong morals. Organized religion had nothing to do with it. By the time you get to church most of your morality has been set. But we didn`t go to church. Our morals came from the parents and maybe some from our teachers.

markust: Jesus actually told us what to do and that the old mosaic law would pass away when he died for our sins. The old testament was history and prophecy of the `Messiah`. Jesus fulfilled those prophecies and the new testament tells us of his life, words, sacrifice and new covenant with God through him.

It`s not that Christians don`t believe in certain parts of the bible, it`s that we are no longer under the jurisdiction of mosaic law.

Morality does not come from within, it is taught. Perhaps you should read the book "Lord of The Flies" and you`ll understand how a society can degenerate into immorality without guidance.

spanerbulb: Of course I have and felt guilty about it, but I`ve reformed myself since. I`m not pointing fingers at anyone, just explaining my ethical point of view.

"This is secular humanism rationale. I`d rather stick to my morals and not cheat..."

It always amazes me when I hear people who claim morals come from the bible. As if secular people have no morals. It is your own morals not the bibles that allows you to pick and choose only the moral parts of the bible and ignore the bad parts that would have you stone people and such. You are more moral than the bible. Morality comes from within.

The comparison to music is to some degree incorrect. The point given by the little pirate are valid, But thats only because making a copy isnt the same as stealing a meal. (if i copy your bike we both have one, in contrary to stealing it)

Mr. Burns: Tell me, Simpson, if an opportunity arose for taking a small short-cut, you wouldn`t be averse to taking it, would you?

Homer: Hmm, not as such.

Mr. Burns: Neither would I. If you can take advantage of a situation in some way, it`s your duty as an American to do it. Why should the race always be to the swift, or the Jumble to the quick-witted? Should they be allowed to win merely because of the gifts God gave them? Well I say, "Cheating is the gift man gives himself."

Homer: Mr. Burns, I insist that we cheat!

Mr. Burns: Excellent!

It says lying to some degree will never change... which i agree with, under a monetary system. Try a resource-based economy, you`ll quickly see all of these problems disappear. Have a look at `The Zeitgeist Movement`!

This is secular humanism rationale. I`d rather stick to my morals and not cheat, It`s much easier to tell the simple truth instead of invent a web of lies. Why? Because then you don`t have to remember all the lies, the truth doesn`t change stories.

Lying is not necessary unless you care about the consequences of telling the truth. In that case you are probably doing something you shouldn`t be doing anyway.

I would rather be insulted by the truth than flattered with lies.
