I don`t eat out in restaurants normally, unless it`s with my own family...that I live with and see all the time. We use our phones to entertain ourselves with hangman or some other game until our food comes. But I don`t tweet about what I`m eating or use instgram to show everyone what it looks like

I`m for pay for your own damn meal you mooch. If I need to use my phone, I will. I won`t sit on it playing on Facebook, but I`ll answer it or do whatever needs to be done.

this would work great for people w/ no kids, etc., but in real life if certain family members called, i would have to answer. i`m for credit card roulette myself.

Wrong, Duckboy, it IS rude to interact on your phone while in the company of others. People have lost manners today because of cell phones. Its the same as if your in the middle of a sentence and someone walks up and interrupts you with what they have to say. Its plain rude.

Also, I would always win, as I only hang out with the people I text.

I don`t think it`s entirely rude to pick up your phone and send a text intermittently, however, it would be rude to sit there and text nonstop.

Calling, however, is rude.

The fact is, our definition of "here" and "now" are changing. It`s no longer the case that a person`s physical proximity automatically grants them a higher level of attention; those people who are physically and temporally distant can have an equal demand. My guess is that as things like Google Glasses become common, along with the ability for nearby people to automatically synchronize their virtual environments, we`ll all (by we, I mean those people living obscenely privileged first world lives) consider it normal to simultaneously interact with both the physical world and the distant virtual world.

great idea. as someone who used to wait tables speaking, i find it really rude to use your phone during a meal, both to the server as well as the other guests at the table. IF you MUST use your phone then excuse yourself from the table and walk outside for the call.

My friends don`t use their phone when we go out to eat, unless we`re expecting someone else to join us, or we`re meeting up with them later. Oddly though, a lot of them use their phones if we`re at a bar or club.

Like any other decent human being, I think using your phone while you`re out with friends is f*cking rude and it pisses me off when people do it. I never do it and expect others not to but that never happens since most people can`t function without their damn phones. That being said, I think this is a great game to play since I can pretty much guarantee I`d never have to pay for another meal when we go out.
