It"s OK, Climate Change isn"t happening. Stick your fingers in your ears and it will go away. Promise.

@davymid: You "deny" that there are fundamentalist BLACKS in America? Are you so sure that 100% of "creationists" are Republicans that you`d bet your life on it?
I`D BET that 5 minutes of interweb searching (which AL GORE INVENTED btw! He said so while running for PotUS so it must be true!) will find tons of NON Republicans who are also nutjobs. I mean Creationsits.
Bet me? Huh? Didn`t think so.
So WHY do you reject Al Gore yet embrace AGW? The "hockey stick" is every bit as believable as the "magic bullet" (only 25% of Americans believe in that, fyi).
It`s...a...LIE!
Which planet do you think is hotter, Venus or Mercury?
@Fools: You have NO IDEA how the guy who origionally said Venus was hotter than Mercury was ATTACKED by the "scientific concensus"! After all, 98% of scientist KNEW Venus is/was colder...

It has nothing to do with leaving the bathroom light on too long or not separating your plastic milk bottles from your cardboard cartons. All the planets in our solar system are going through the same warming effect.

Al Gore owns a company that sells Carbon Credits. Do you guys know what those are?

Seem legit.

Anyway, Cycles gonna cycle. I`m loving this warm weather!

I guess it depends on who you believe on this. Here is a news report saying the exact opposite of this article.

vv Ah yes, OldOllie. I was wondering when he was going to chime in. Antarctic sea ice has indeed been increasing, while antarctic land-ice has been melting.

Whatever. Climate Change has become a political football, and it`s sad to see. The scientific data is the scientific data, the observable reality.

It`s not surprising that the very same people that deny that global warming being (at least in part) due to human effects are the very same people that deny there`s such a thing as Evolution in biological science. Namely (exclusively even) American right-wing conservatives.

Whatever. By the time we collectively realise how big the problem is, it`ll be too late.

p.s. F*ck Al Gore.

No one is saying climate change isn`t happening. Everyone believes it is, just not for the same reasons Al Gore says it is. The Earth is cyclic in nature and has been through several ice ages/warming periods. We were not around to blame all of the others on. Fear generates revenue. Learn some history on the Earth`s climate.

`How did this thread go from climate change to Occupy Wall Street? ~scratches head~`

Andrew155 thinks we should be more concerned about the "impending financial crisis". It`s partly my fault, because I responded to that. But I think he should be concerned about the massive economic problems that come with climate change.

No libertarians would have anything to do with OWS. Those people have no thought for freedom. They have no thought for anything but making other people pay for their idiotic decisions, their laziness or their greed.

"our polar caps are melting at a ridiculous rate"

That is simply a lie. Antarctic ice is at a record high level.

Arctic ice is melting right in line with trends and cycles that pre-date the industrial revolution, let alone significant human release of CO2.

Nothing there about the record maximum for Antarctic sea ice, then?

Ever noticed that every argument for CAGW is either a classic logical fallacy or just really bad science (except when it is actually scientific misconduct or fraud, which is worryingly often)?

I think all you jackasses are missing the point. It`s not about what argument is right or wrong, it`s about the fact that our polar caps are melting at a ridiculous rate and soon may be gone and more important than Al Gore or the Occupy Movement is how different the world will be for all us.

oh so now its climate change??? what ever happened to global warming from the pesky humans???

this is what happens when people think there smart because they took pooty course in UNI..
then get thousands in tax payers dollars thrown at them to come up with bullpoo.. what happens if they dont make up bullpoo? they don`t get that money next year... its a vicious cycle which is the #1 problem in government.. it should be torn down and rebuilt. FACT

The Earth goes through warming and cooling cycles on it`s own. The debate isn`t if the climate is changing, it`s if we`re responsable for it.

`Occupy was a mishmash of leftists, Socialists, Anarchists, and Libertarians....so your definition is wrong anyways`

No, my definition is correct because I said "mainly leftist". I`m aware that there were a few libertarians.

I`m also aware of the shortcomings of the movement. They failed because their anarchistic wing doesn`t understand that a movement needs leaders and a clear plan.

Anyway, we`re getting way off topic here.

Occupy was a mishmash of leftists, Socialists, Anarchists, and Libertarians....so your definition is wrong anyways. But they were mostly just lazy, entitled college dooshes. Oh that`s a fact. I live in Manhattan, I saw these people. Disgrace to humanity. Rape central.

And if you talk to most of them, specifically the ones that are the Leftists you describe, they think Obama is making it better. They think there is enough of rich people`s money to balance the budget. Many don`t even think the debt is that big of a deal.

The leftist faction of occupy supports the very policies that are going to cause the financial crisis. They are, largely, the problem itself. Corrupt bankers will not be the main cause of the coming financial collapse, it will be debt, entitlement, and laziness behind it all.

`every planet in the solar system is experience global warming right now. Are people responsible for that too? LMAO`

Again, you obviously have no idea what you`re talking about. I`ve heard people say that Mars is warming. That`s never been corroborated.

See this: Martian Global Warming?

It seems you`re suggesting that increased solar activity is raising the temperature of the planets. Solar activity has actually been decreasing for the last quarter century or so.

Which planet do you think is hotter, Venus or Mercury? By your theory, it would be Mercury, since it`s closer than Venus. However, you`d be wrong. Venus is hotter than Mercury, and it just happens to have a high concentration of CO2 in its atmposphere.

This is a cyclical pattern and nothing to worry about, besides the antarctic sea ice is growing and more than making up for the arctic loss.
the antartic has MORE ice than ussual [sic]. Those currents aren`t anything new. They`ve always been there. If there is more ice that means it was colder.
I love how your second sentence is at odds with your first sentence. Yes, those currents have been there, but they don`t stay the same each year. If you actually looked, there are a variety of explanations that account for the *minor* increase in antarctic ice, such as cooler air currents from the west, even the ozone hole affecting circulation of the atmosphere there creating a cooler stratosphere. Your armchair analysis of climate is quite basic. Don`t quit your day-job.

I wish lefties would be alarmists about the debt and the coming financial collapse. CNN just ran a story about how QE 3 favors the rich for frock`s sake. What we`re going to end up with is an environmental and a economic crisis double-whamy because of people like most of you all here.

Nobody? 98% of climate scientists agree with AGW. If you can`t tell that 98% is a lot more than 0% (`nobody`), you have a real credibility problem.

Climate Change deniers are a prime example of how opinion media manipulates and brainwashed people. Follow the money behind the deniers and it leads right to oil and coal. There isn`t any attempt to hide it. Here is an issue that affects us all. This is not a partisan issue but people have been brainwashed into believing it is. If it turns humans are not to blame there is not a problem. But if it turns out we are to blame then we`re kind of all screwed. Sure it will be fun to blame you assh*les for dragging your feet but that won`t save us from the heat. Hey, I guess this is a partisan issue.

@MeGrendel: Ok, I`ll explain it since you don`t know anything about climate science: The arctic is the end-point for air currents originating closer to the equator. This paper has a few useful figures concerning air currents, and here`s another image showing the sources of pollution to the arctic.

As for Antarctica, there is the circumpolar ocean current, which is circumpolar due to there being no landmass connected to Antarctica. Thus warm ocean waters stay away from Antarctica, enabling that continent to maintain its huge ice sheet. Also, the arctic is an ocean, whereas Antarctica is a land mass, and most of the industrial pollution produced is in the northern hemisphere.

Yeah, got that. PhD Geologist here, I`ve spent my academic and professional career analysing earth`s history. What`s apparently unprecedented is the RATE of climate change we`re currently experiencing. It`s not on a timescale of hundreds of thousands of years, it`s on a scale of centuries, if not decades.

When elected president to fight climate change I`ll hit every single one of Al Gores massive mansions with guided missles cutting carbon emissions massively!!!!

Then we`ll retool NASA to put thrusters on earth to push it a bit away from the sun!!

I built that in my head. I` McGovern and I support this message!

Last I checked, mankind`s effluvium has tainted or corrupted nearly every corner of our natural world.

<sarc>But we all know that the impact of 7 billion humans can`t possibly have any effect on our planet, right? Pumping nearly 40 BILLION TONS of extra greenhouse gases into the sky each year will have absolutely no repercussions, right? It`s not in any way possible that we could be accelerating or changing the "natural cycles" you all love to invoke, right? I mean, what could possibly go wrong if we ignore the obvious evidence of our impact?</sarc>

Climate change IS occurring. It`s just not man-induced like all the Libs want the world to believe. It`s an Earthly cycle. Being that we`ve only been keeping track of temperatures for such a small amount of time... I`m sure we can base everything off of that, right?

The Earth is 4,540,000,000 years old. Global temperatures have been keep track of for about 162 years. That`s 3.56 trillionths of the time we`ve been keeping track of it. Not very reliable.

Not to mention the fact that scientists believe that the temperatures were very hot during some geological time periods as well as ice ages and cooler times.

It`s all cyclical, morons.

Except for the fact that current climate is changing faster than it ever has in geologic history as far as we know - and no current natural mechanism can account for the current warming.
