No sane person would ever support this man. He is the kind of person who needs to be shipped off to Texas. All of the crazies need to be sent there or Arizona, then we should have a huge wall put up to separate those two states from the rest of the US. In fact we should put up the wall and kick them out of the US.

Option 1. Withdraw the matrimonial favours. That`ll teach her a lesson! Her cars probably got electronic ignition so no rotor-arm to remove. Erm, Tell her to go outside immediately and tidy-up the garden, or else...
Option 2. Take out a large loan on the house, spend the dosh or deposit it overseas, get a divorce.

Well the Saudi Arabia thing was a joke to me. I can`t stand religiosity but I can take a joke. Too me the troubling thing is what he says when he is being serious. Things like:

"He can`t let her get away with this stuff"

"Doesn`t want to submit to authority"

As if she is a pet.

I`m not even concerned with the "move to Saudi Arabia so you can beat her", I`m more than willing to assume that was a joke, or at least an off-the-cuff remark. As HolyGod already pointed out, the actual disturbing thing in this was his very sincere analysis of her as a woman as refuses to submit to authority. The authority being the man, of course. No surprise there, he`s an evangelical Christian who lives his life from Scripture (see my quote from The Bible below, where women are ordered to be in full submission to their husbands, and the husband is to have full authority over his silent woman).

HolyGod: If the roles were reversed in this case you wouldn`t be criticizing the advice.
And, back atcha CJ, if it were a woman writing in to Pat Robertson asking for advice on how to deal with her abusive husband, the advice would be entirely different. Pat Robertson sure as f*ck wouldn`t be advising the woman being abused by her husband that the core of the problem is that the man has a problem submitting to the woman`s authority.

See, double standards are a bitch, ain`t they? Since they work both ways and all.

God also says in Ephiphesians 5:25-29

Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish. In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church,

Submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ.

This even applys to your own wife!!

1 Timothy 5:1-2 Never speak harshly to an older man, but appeal to him respectfully as you would to your own father. Talk to younger men as you would to your own brothers. Treat older women as you would your mother, and treat younger women with all purity as you would your own sisters.

Justahuman, the verses you quoted didn`t really make the one he quoted any better. They say for men to treat their wives well and to love them, sure. But the other verse says that women should be silent and submissive. Men = love your wife. Women = be submissive to your husband and do what he tells you without question. Oh and women are the original sinners not men. Not exactly equal there.

I don`t need to google Bible verses, thanks for the assumption though. I was a born-again Christian for many years in my teens.

You quote Ephesians (fairly) while I quoted Timothy (fairly also I hope). So, which one is it? They can`t both be right. No wonder there`s so many slightly different flavours of Christianity. It was one of the reasons that I couldn`t handle that religion anymore. Christians are all reading from the same book, right? I`ve read it too. Cover to cover, multiple times, I promise. It wasn`t a cheap google-shot on my part. My reading and understanding of what the Bible says, is the main reason that I`m now an atheist.

uh i quoted Timothy,And yes they are both right :)

You got me sorry about the assumption,There are multiple Translations i read each one,They have the same message but different was of translating it.Someone whos read the bible cover to cover should know this :/ Its weird how things work out,i used to be an athiest until i started learning more about God reading the bible to use it as a weapon against believers but it started making more sense after educating myself i came closer to god,but i dont call myself a Christian necessarily,i see my faith as a relationship with God.

No sin is greater than the other.
Romans 3:23 For all have sinned fallen short of the glory of god.= Equality

So two children steal candy but the one who stole first is more of a thief than the other?the original thief is worse? is that your argument? Both man and woman were punished and cast out of Eden=Equality

And in case you missed it.

    Eph 5:21

Submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ. = equality.

    Christ died for EVERYONE= equality.

Seriously IAB? I`m not fan of Pat Robertson (what I hear is 100% courtesy of IAB), but Pat Robertson was obviously JOKING! He does have some good advice like getting a third party involved and (putting it bluntly) grow a pair. Now it does annoy how he masks his own assumptions as the truth and insists on adhering to scripture.

So according to @Justahuman, it`s right that women shouldn`t teach or have authority over a man? It`s amazing how the "word of God" usually reflected the cultural norms that were prevalent at that time.

My wife is submissive to me, when it matters. She wants it that way though. I often try and get her to argue with me about philosophy and psychology. I think my wife and I have a wonderful relationship. She seems to like it too, although I annoy her often. XD

"Neither sex should take or dole out physical abuse in a relationship."

I rewatched the video. The line is "she even went as far as stretching her hand to beat me." I took that as she stretched out her hand to hit him but didn`t. If I was saying someone beat me I`d just say they beat me, not they "stretched out their hand". But I suppose the statement is ambiguous and could be taken either way. I agree that nobody should put up with physical violence or verbal abuse. But the advice Pat is giving goes beyond that and extols the view of the bible that women are property.

It seems easier for me to dislike Pat Robertson. I find him no different than Jim Bakker or Robert Tilton. People like this are charlatans. Televangelists give Christianity a bad name. I know it`s not the main reson *cough* (Catholic priests), but they do not help out the cause. Find spirituality or religion inside of you, not from some whack-a-doo on TV.

Love how the whiny guy`s side of the story is just accepted and the wife defined as deeply flawed.

And Pat is clearly regretful that you can`t just whup some respect into them anymore.

But Pat does say it`s ok to ditch a wife with Alzheimers. So the first time she forgets where she put her purse she`s gone.

Oh, no sweat. I was raised Protestant (Church of Ireland, basically Irish equivalent to Anglican) but my father was Protestant and my mother Catholic. Though it was never a big deal in our house, when someone asked whether I was Catholic or Protestant, I would have described myself simply as "Christian".

I wasn`t brought up in a religious background as a kid - well, apart from sunday school and church every sunday. But it was never really discussed much at home, going to church on sunday was more just "something you did". But I was a MUCH more devout Christian than anyone else in my family, from say age 8 to about 17. Bible Camps, that kinda thing.
