The mormon (or is that moron?) religion is just silly. Well, I guess the same can be said of all religions but that one is even more absurd than most. I hope he does not really believe that stuff. It`s scary to think that somebody so gullible and with such poor reasoning skills could be president.

@HolyGod: Ah, yes, I answered you literally.

The concept that the government can "spend it`s way out" of a recession is nonsense to me (my personal opinion again). For every dollar redistributed, an estimated $5 is losr to the bureaucracy. Source

To me, then, it would seem that the most reasonable method of economic recovery would be for the government to simply cut spending (ahem, wars for example) massively and reduce taxation across the board.

My reasoning comes from both research and experience. I had a friend who took out over $100k on loans for a private college; he always said it was OK because he would be able to pay it back later (and then some). He was counting on later rather than looking at the now.

Today, he can barely afford his apartment; My opinion is that simply being frugal is the best option.

I don`t know if maybe you took my analogy too literally. I`m saying the broken business drowning in debt was the U.S. economy and Obama took it over. I`m saying isn`t it obvious he would need to go further in debt to turn it around?

@HolyGod: You would most likely need to go into more debt for the business in order to TRY to "turn it around" - so yes.

However, if the government decided to refrain from becoming involved, eventually the companies lending credit will stop lending. If the business files for bankruptcy, then those lendors should recover as much of their costs as possible, but should then be responsible for "eating" the remaining costs; it was their decision to lend to a business that may not be able to pay them back.

In addition, if I take on a business that is "under", then it is my responsibility to accept that debt (because I have the resources and confidence that I can recover it). If I fail, then I absolutely should be liable.

Yes, people will lose their jobs in the short-term; it is inevitable. The long-term implication is that better managed companies will flourish though (over time).

I absolutely agree with your statement. It is a legitimate concern.

Let`s consider this rationale too:

Let`s say you take over a business. It is ALREADY drowning in debt, there are loans out on cars that need fixed, a mortgage on a building that needs repaired, and credit cards that are maxed out.

Wouldn`t you agree that I would have to go further in debt to fix all the issues and turn the business around before I could start paying down debt?

"The last Mormon that came to my door just wouldn`t leave, even after I calmly explained to him that I wasn`t interested in speaking to him about religion."

I calmly explain in a non-confrontational manor that I am gay and I am concerned about some of the anti-gay actions taken by the church. They stick around for about a minute after.

""Unemployment is down" LMAO! Seriously? You believe that?"

I said "since the peak of the recession in late 2009"

The peak unemployment was 10% in 2009. It has trended down ever since to an August number of 8.1%. Now we can discuss whether or not it has gone down fast enough, but how can you argue that it has gone down?

[quote]Unemployment is down

There is a fundamental issue with these indicators - they don`t take in account debt. Let`s consider this rationale at a simplified micro scale:

Let`s say I get a loan for a car, take out a mortgage, take out some loans for college, and rack up a credit card bill. Ignoring my debt, all indications are that I am performing very well economically; afterall, I have a car, a house, a college education, and material possessions.

At the macro level, the same situation is occurring (has occurred). We artificially boost these statistics by increasing our debt (consider, for example, hiring a public employee).

Without considering debt and inflation, all of these statistics are meaningless.

If you are not on unemployment benefits, and you don`t have a job, the polls don`t count you.

They go by unemployment claims being opened, being used, and if it is closed...to them that means you have gotten a job.

Even though, a lot of times it means you just no longer are eligible for unemployment and are now among the thousands of long term unemployed that are not picked up by the governments archaic and idiotic systems.

"Obama is destroying the economy"

How is life in the bubble?

Unemployment is down
Job creation is up
New home builds is up
The stock market is up
Median income is up
Home sales is up

Outside of the deficit, almost EVERY single financial indicator has improved since the peak of the recession in late 2009.

Where do you guys get this stuff? PLEASE look up the facts yourself.

""religious nut"? I mean besides having a religion"

That is all it takes. If you believe in invisible, omnipotent, magic entities and 5,000 year old fairy tales, you are nuts.

I don`t get why his campaign is over. It`s not like it`s some huge secret that Obama is destroying the economy and the american people. It`s been said many times before, just not by Romney until now. Yes, I know this is not a real article, I`m just wondering why everyone is freaking out about this.
