Fleecing the living is just capitalism doing what it does. Or I guess in this case crony capitalism.

patchgrabber, there`s no such thing as "crony capitalism." It`s an oxymoron, like "promiscuous virginity" or "retarded genius."You can have cronyism, OR you can have capitalism, but you can never have both at the same time. This is cronyism, pure and simple.

Big city democrat politics at work. Tammany and Tweed look downright honest next to Bloomberg and his ilk.

@Ollie: While I don`t think cronyism and capitalism are mutually exclusive, a quick check of both terms indicates that cronyism is concerned mostly with promoting friends to prominent positions in government or business (i.e. boy`s club), and crony capitalism is where "...success in business depends on close relationships between business people and government officials."

So I think crony capitalism is a valid thing. It`s just a combination of corrupt government practices intermingling with the market and players in that market.

Now...I`m currently brain dead from staring at code all day, but your math doesn`t seem right. Here is my math:
    -365 days*2012 years =734,380 days.
    -734,380 days * $1,000,000=$734,380,000,000

I get seven-hundred and thirty-four billion, three-hundred and eighty million.

    Did I screw that up?

    >>>>again i would like to point out that if you use one million every day since the 1. jan year 0 you would not use a billion<<<

I am am pretty sure that a billion is a 1000 million. Since it is now 2012, spending one million a year would have resulted in you spending a little over 2 billion since year 0. Spending one million per day would have resulted in ~365 times as much or ~730 billion. Perhaps you meant spending a million a day would not have gotten you to 1 trillion. Those orders of magnitude are a bitch.

Patches, capitalism the allocation of resources by the free market. Cronyism is the allocation of resources by the government. The two could not be further apart.

markust: It`s been designed to withstand even an Airbus 380 crashing into it. It`s a much better design than either of the original towers.

The stairways are wider and protected within the reinforced inner core of the building. The lower floors are also designed to withstand a bomb blast much larger than what happened in Oklahoma City. Plus, I seriously doubt terrorists will attempt another feat like 9/11.

Crakr - The original Twin Towers were designed to withstand multiple Boeing 707 crashes at different points. There was a central column of steel girders that should have stayed standing if floors had fallen down under the pancake effect, yet that was gone too. And the argument that the jet fuel combusting allowed for the skyscrapers to fall is unfeasible, they would need to be cut at a diagonal angle (as in controlled demolitions) to allow for the central structure to completely fail. Look at any wreckage photo, the main support girders show exactly this. In both Trade Centres and Building 7, the molten metal was documented at 2000 degrees Fahrenheit, which is 200 degrees hotter than jet fuel can burn in even the most controlled conditions. This is the first of many inconsistencies with the official theory.

On top of the fact that 9/11 was CLEARLY NOT an act of external terrorism, the U.S. are now earning MORE money from this new building? Feeling sorry for you guys over ther

    1. Cronyism and Capitalism are so different. Capitalism is the the uninhibited and fair allocation of resources through EQUAL competition. In Cronyism, the winners and losers are picked, usually by the government. That`s why, for instance, the car bailouts were anti-capitalist. They were all rewarded for having $hitty companies, while Ford was left in the cold for being the only decently run company. And now we just have a bunch of inefficient car companies that are going to go bankrupt again. The rich benefited from this, by the way. Just one example. That`s not fair and equal. That`s not capitalism.

    2. I would never work in the Freedom Tower, either. It would feel too strange, I remember 9/11 too well. I don`t care if it can "withstand" an airplane. I don`t think an airplane will crash into it, it`s just the last place I want to spend 8 hours a day.

    @OldOllie & @Andrew155:

I see you`re both talking in ideal systems. Neither of your definitions preclude a possible middle-ground or joining of the two.

OldOllie: capitalism the allocation of resources by the free market. Cronyism is the allocation of resources by the government
So what happens when you have both i.e. allocation of resources from the government by capitalists *in* the government? Crony capitalism. Your argument is close to a No True Scotsman it seems, I don`t see a good reason that you can`t have capitalism and government working together for mutual benefit at the exclusion of others and call it crony capitalism.

    Me too Auburn, me too.

And, although I respect your right to have a different opinion, you have failed to provide a quantitative rebuttal that rebukes my evidence. Thus, your attempt at discrediting my argument with a loose, mildly offensive generalization holds no ground.

Let me make it simple for you. What is more probable (A) or (B)?

    (A) Every plane`s location in the USA is monitored every second. If there is the smallest doubt that it might be hijacked after it deviates off course or disappears from the radar fighter jets are sent to escort it and asses the situation. If the plane heads for a major multi-million city like NY they will even take it down.
After a plane has crashed in a skyscraper in NY, the military are in a state top alert. Every person and machine is mobilized. Not even a bird can fly near the city unnoticed.
    (B) Taliban terrorist living in caves manage to hijack 4 planes. 2 of them disappear after impact.
The other two are flying unnoticed towards NY. The first one penetrates the airspace of NY, no action is taken. After the first crash a second plane enters the airspace of NY, unnoticed again, even though top alert is announced. No action is taken again.

Do you really admit your country is so useless?

So a government that can`t decide on gay marriage can pull off the controlled demolition of two massive towers without anyone noticing something strange or an operative speaking up........

McGovern - I`m talking about a government that has a proven history of doing what`s necessary to enter war and further its own profits. Any major war in the past century that the U.S. have been involved in have needed public support, most notably; WWII and Vietnam, among others. 9/11 was just a modern version of Pearl Harbour --- both were initiated and intended by the U.S. government for war profiteering. And who made/makes the most? As always, the banks.

As for having a government that can`t decide on gay marriage? Again, conflict is in the governments best interest as profit is derived from creating solutions to problems. Gay marriage is simply a part of this. It also keeps the public diverted from more important issues; such as the elitist society we live in and the devastating way we live as humans.

Uh oh. Higher than average unemployment. State government bailouts. Constant fear of strikes. Out-migration of citizens.

New York sucks. Well, mainly the actual city and surrounding of NYC. Upstate is pretty stable, and conservative.
