Still won`t go veggie though. EAT MEAT.IT`S FANTASTIC.

Though an average person could never build that much muscle on broccoli and beans.

My cat won`t eat veggies because she doesn`t like them - she is a carnivore.
The cows at the nearby farm don`t like meat and are happy to munch hay and grass all day - they`re herbivores.
I like meat, fruit, vegetables, and grains - isn`t that a hint at what nature intended me to eat? Humans are omnivores and I get tired of pushy vegetarians trying to tell me differently.

No. The world doesn`t work in absolutes. Life is a crap shoot. You can eat nothing but bacon and whiskey, smoke cigarettes, have unprotected sex and live to be 105. You can eat nothing but vegetables and lean protein, exercise every day, and drop dead at 40.

Nothing will guarantee early death or longevity. It is all about increasing your odds.

I am a member of MEATA (Mankind Eating All Tasty Animals).

    The duties include:
    1. Having a BBQ with no veggies across the street from PETA rallies in your neighborhood.

    2. Countering the impact of PETA through logic: For every PETA member in your area that you meet, you eat 3 animals for every 1 he/she saves.

I don`t understand why people typing "People Eat Tasty Animals" somehow believe they are being clever.

There are many variables to heart disease. I`m a vegetarian and heart disease runs in my family. MCD could have had something similar. But don`t use this to justify saying that its healthy to eat the flesh from other sentients.

I don`t understand why people typing "People Eat Tasty Animals" somehow believe they are being clever.

I don`t understand why people joining PETA somehow believe they`re doing something good. PETA is an extremist nutjob organisation with excellent propagandists. They`re not good for anyone or anything.

It`s not about being clever. It`s about amusing yourself and ridiculing PETA.

We are omnivores. Deny your nature at your peril.

True, but we are very versatile omnivores with advanced technology. If you know what you`re doing and you have access to a wide range of food and you take the necessary supplements, you can go against nature and be an exclusive herbivore, healthily. I think you can also go the other way and be an exclusive carnivore, under the same circumstances.

Or, of course, you can eat animal dung instead of supplements. Is animal dung vegan? A grey area, I think. Or maybe a brown one :)

You can get everything else from an exclusive herbivore diet if you really know what you`re doing, have access to a wide variety of plants to eat and stick to it carefully, but you can`t get B12. Supplement (from a lab or with the right kind of animal dung) or suffer, degrade and die slowly.

My cat won`t eat veggies because she doesn`t like them - she is a carnivore.

It`s even stronger than that - she couldn`t digest them even if she liked them. Cats are obligate carnivores - meat is their only food. Cats sometimes eat something else, but not for nutrition. Eat grass and puke. Lovely.

My grandparents and parents were all smokers and drinkers and all lived into their 90`s. Except Dad, he died at 87. My great grandmother smoked non-filters and lived to 103.

You`re predisposed to to die young, or live long. Don`t eat at McDonalds every day, but no reason you shouldn`t enjoy life, enjoy bacon, & enjoy beer. Being vegetarian doesn`t help your odds one bit.

This is an interesting post. To promote vegetarianism to prevent heart disease, then die from heart disease, that sucks.
Also, there`s no way you can put on that much muscle and just eat veggies.

Just goes to show that having large muscles doesn`t mean you`re healthy. It`s well known that larger people in general put more strain on their heart. Without a good watch on cholesterol and plaque build up and the like, it can be a nasty combination.

    DingDingDong:
"Also, there`s no way you can put on that much muscle and just eat veggies."

not true Tofu has much more available protein than any meat on an ounce by ounce basis. Whey is a great source of protein too for those who aren`t vegan.

I eat beef steak. Beef steak is muscle. Beef steak comes from cows. Cows live on grass. Cows are vegetarian. Cows have big muscles. From grass.
It is possible to build muscles while on a vegetarian diet. This fellow probably overstressed his heart; a pump designed by nature to service a body that was originally not supposed to carry that amount of muscle.

All proteins are not created equal. Meat proteins provide more and varied types of the essential proteins we need.

Beef alone provides seven of the nine essential proteins leucine, isoleucine, lysine, methionine, threonine, tryptophan and valine. These amino acids help build cells and repair tissue, form antibodies, and carry oxygen throughout the body. No one plant source does that.

"Nothing will guarantee early death or longevity. It is all about increasing your odds."

    Exactly.

Assuming you care about increasing your odds, of course. I fully support the idea of live short, eat bacon, even though I don`t do it myself.

(I`m vegetarian, with a fridge full of bacon that I happily cook for my partner. Not every vegetarian is a douche).

Literally. By not eating meat, us vegetarians are reducing demand for meat, therefore helping in increasing the availability and reducing the price of meat that you buy.

It cracks me up when people try to defend their diet one way or another. I never have understood why people feel the need to impose their own personal choices on others. fact of the matter is eating meat or not eating meat can be just as healthy. If not eating meat, it is necessary to pay attention to the types of proteins you are getting, but with a decent habit built up, it`s not difficult. Get plenty of nuts, whole grain, legumes, and dairy and you`re not missing anything. Beef has some good nutrients too, but if you over-consume it (most Americans do), it can be detrimental to your health.

Really? Since 2009, the price of meat has steadily increased to nearly 200%. The research is as easy as going to any store.
