They forgot to add Free to the last 4 questions. Romney isn`t even wrong about this. The people who believe yes to these questions will never change their minds about what ever anyone has to say to them and will vote for whom ever is running that says they will get it. Even if it was Burt and Ernie running and them giving free food stamps, healthcare and free housing.

papa... yes we do. We see other countries (think northern Europe) taking good care of their people and doing ok financially, and we wonder why we have to go bankrupt for health care if something bad happens. We wonder why our college students have to go deeply in debt and have a very difficult time starting their lives now because of that, when other countries (yeah, even EGYPT) automatically give free college to the top percentile of their students. We wonder why elderly people can`t get better care...

No, I don`t want some slacker taking up valuable tax money, but I don`t want the insurance companies, colleges, and others swilling away at the hog feeding either.

Our money is better used to help each other. You can have yours, I can have mine, but the government needs to spend some on what actually matters instead of their own interests and the military.

Wait crackr. You are blaming Obama for unemployment? Unemployment that was caused by the previous administration who destroyed the economy over the course of 8 years and gave you a record deficit, and you expect it to be rectified pretty much overnight?

It`s pretty obvious that you are a republican trying to slander the opposing party without even thinking it through.

Sunny: Government doesn`t create jobs that add to the GDP, only private sector jobs from private companies, bring in revenue without spending government money to pay the workers.

If the government hires a worker at $90,000 at year that`s overall government expenditure (despite what that worker may pay in income taxes). When private companies hire a worker at $90,000 the government gets revenue via income taxes, about $15,000 on average.

So to pay for that one government worker there has to be 6 private sector workers (earning the same wage) just to break even. The US has 16.42% of it`s workers in the public sector that`s a ratio of 6.09 to 1. That`s barely breaking even, assuming the average public sector employee earns the same as the average private sector employee.

I actually agreed with Romney with this but I didn`t look at his numbers. There is a certain group who is going to vote for OBama no matter what.

Oh and I think that the unemployment is mostly caused by clinton and bush policies which helped people get in a lot of housing debt. Obama hasn`t really done to much to help though.

With his candid off the cuff ignorant statement, Mitt definitely lost a few independents and because of that more than likely the election. No one is spinning his words. They are more damning exactly as they were spoken,

"There are 47% of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47% who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it. That that`s an entitlement. And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what. And I mean the President starts off with 49, 49…he starts off with a huge number. These are people who pay no income tax. 47% of Americans pay no income tax. So our message of low taxes doesn’t connect."

Maybe if you`re Mitt Romney you might believe this, because you don`t want to realize a good portion of those people you think are lazy bums actually vote for your party. But in reality, a good portion of them /do/ vote Republican. There are more people paying 0% income tax in red states than in blue states.

He most definitely screwed himself. The funny thing is that in holding that impromptu press conference to do "damage control" he made it worse. I have to admit though, the comment he made about how he`d have a better shot of winning if he had been of Mexican descent did make me laugh. I still think this little scandal (if you can call it that) has pissed off enough people and ensured that he won`t be the next POTUS.

@Lillian: There are more people paying 0% income tax in red states than in blue states.
We must be careful with these statements as they are purposefully misleading. Most of the research I`ve seen indicates that you are correct, however, that those people are mostly denizens of "blue" cities in "red" states.

In addition, I`ve noticed this recent study that indicates that many "red" states receive more federal assistance than "blue" states per unit population (which appears to be true). However, research also indicates that many "blue" states use considerably more TOTAL federal assistance (since they have higher populations).

It is all a matter of how we choose to present our statistics.

This is gonna sound bad, but I agree with Mitt on so many things. "Entitlement" is often just lazyness. I believe in small government and I don`t think the government is obligated to provide a safety net if you fail in life.

But the way Romney implements those ideas is frightening. It`s as if he wants to set people up to be hungry/homeless/uneducated/sick.

    Frighening.

I don`t think very many people would disagree. There are areas of the system that needs to be fixed. The government should not be obligated to provide a safety net for every failure. This opens the system up to abuse. The biggest problem is the majority of Republicans in power, not all of them but the majority, do not really want to fix the problems. If they did they would be coming up with fixes. Instead the mantra is always scrap it and start over, which translates to scrap it.

markust: Actually I was referring to the large metropolises, New York City, Chicago, Los Angeles, Detroit, Philadelphia, DC, etc.. which are in blue states.

Btw, it has nothing to do with races, many races live within the inner cities, it`s about attitude. Obama`s own campaign website has a `Life of Julia` section showing how Obama will help a single mother with government freebies throughout her lifetime. So even Obama`s own campaign websites basically says, vote for me or you`ll loose your government freebies.

What`s so ridiculous about thinking people shouldn`t be entitled to food? We`re an obese nation. Or even housing? What, we should give free housing now? The New York City Housing authority is expensive as frack. Rent is pegged at 1/3 of your income. Just move outside the city and you won`t be poor. It`s simple. Yes, you`re not a victim.

And Markust, that Julia thing is really fracking creepy. There`s a reason it never really went anywhere. What a sad, lonely, and dependent life. Without Obama, she would`ve been thoroughly fracked. So happy Obama saved her life with all that fictional money.

Your solution to obesity: Starve poor people?

"Or even housing? What, we should give free housing now?"

You`re against homeless shelters? Those evil poor people wanting a safe place to stay instead of living on the streets!

"Just move outside the city and you won`t be poor."

You need money to move, you need money to not be poor. Poor people aren`t usually poor by choice or even by where they live.

    "It`s simple."

Entitlement is not welfare. Social Security is an entitlement for the people who have retired. It`s welfare to the likes of Paul Ryan. Entitlement meaning you`ve spent your working life contributing to it. If there is some sort of overhaul on SS and other entitlements I would agree with means testing for recipients and no cut-off for contributors who`s income reaches a certain level.

That flowchart should have been so much simpler:

Obama has been a lying turd during his entire first term. As much as I loathe Romney, voting for Obama to get a second term will just be your special way of saying "Thanks for lying to me for the past four years, Obama; please sir, can I have some more?"

Don`t encourage the lying arsehole. Come November, both sides should be left with egg on their faces as no credible winner emerges.

There`s an easy way to save Social Security. One, have an opt-out like Madest said. And anyone who opts-out can get right back in if things turn for them. I bet many rich Americans would opt-out. Two, raise the cutoff of paycheck deductions for SS to $120K. Three, put the money back into it`s own untouchable area. We`re really only screwed because the money was pulled into the general fund.

So you answer a comment about Obama`s honesty with a lie. Doesn`t say a lot about you. Letterman was talking about the debt clock at the RNC. The question was, "Do you remember what that number was?" which Obama answered, "I don`t know what the number was precisely". Here`s the full episode. If you think that President Obama doesn`t know what the debt and deficit currently is you are delusional.

And soon, Six million, mostly middle income, Americans will pay the health care tax rather than obtain coverage under President Obama’s health care law. "many of us are tired of weak minded buffoons looking for a handout"

Estimation on Government spending (Federal, State, and Local) is 6.3 Trillion. Of that, .7 is assistance. So take that away and have 5.6 Trillion in Government spending with NO welfare programs whatsoever.

314 Million people in the U.S. That means if everyone paid their way equally each person in the country would pay roughly $17,800 in taxes a year with NO assistance programs.

Do you pay that much in taxes? It is your share. My guess is you don`t. Most people don`t. So that means you are getting a handout.

The only numbers I ever see that say Obama is doing a bad job is the deficit and unemployment.

Let`s look at unemployment compared to Reagan. This data is all pulled directly from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

    Reagan:
Months in office before unemployment hit 8%: 9
Months with unemployment above 8%: 27
    Peaked unemployment: 10.8
Months where Unemployment trended up: 20
Months with unemployment above 10%: 10

    Obama:
Months in office before unemployment hit 8%: 0
Months with unemployment above 8%: 43
    Peaked unemployment: 10
Months where Unemployment trended up: 9
Months with unemployment above 10%: 1

Can we admit that in every category EXCEPT months above 8% Obama is doing a better job? Aren`t all of the factors I listed important? Don`t you find it to latch on to ONE factor that looks the best for your side and only use that one?

Obama had no time in office before unemployment hit 8%. It was happening when he came in. Reagan had 9 whole months before unemployment hit 8%. It happened under him. Reagan also had way higher unemployment for way longer. Unemployment trended up under Reagan for twice as long as it did under Obama. Isn`t that important?

You`re the one being dishonest DromEd. The question Obama was asked is not what you are stating. And if you are referring to how he would have answered the actual question Letterman asked you must be some kind of super hero to be able to tell what was going through Obama`s mind before he answered the question. What he did was skirt around the question so he could give a long winded explanation about the debt. That is what every politician does. They answer the questions on their own terms. It is not dishonest just frustrating if you want a direct answer to an oddly worded question such as this.

To be fair to Reagan and to Obama @HolyGod (as we have both explained many times) the first 9 months of a presidency are affected by the last Presidents fiscal budget. I think it is fair to say unemployment falls into this also.

HG: There is much more than one factor that shows Obama is a SCOAMF. 46.7 million people on food stamps (a record number), 67 million underemployed (another record), Housing starts at the lowest level since the 1970s, 1st ambassador to die while on duty since 1979, 63.7% Labor force participation rate (a 30-year low), $16,000,000,000,000 in National Debt, 7 Months since Obama last met with his own jobs council, Real median household income has decreased by more than 4000 dollars, The average price per gallon of gas has doubled to over $3.80, the number of long-term unemployed Americans has risen from 2.7 million to 5.2 million, US home values have fallen by 12 percent, US debt was downgraded from AAA status for the first time ever and the Velocity of money (known as M2V) has plunged to a post-World War II low.

I can go on and on and on with more, but I believe this list more than state the case that Obama is a failure.

markust how do you do that? You take a perfectly clear question and turn it around in your own mind so it seems "oddly worded." Letterman asked about the debt clock and Obama goes off on a explanation about the deficit and ten seconds later it`s about wars fought on credit cards and tax breaks and saving the auto industry. (which DC still holds crappy GM stock that they can`t afford to sell without looking the fool.)

I`m looking through your stats and it is kind of shocking how consistently wrong you are.

According to factcheck.org MORE people were added to food stamps under Bush than Obama, and we weren`t even in the recession then.

67 Million are underemployed? Where did you get that number? The US Labor Department has the number at 8.2 Million which is DOWN since 2009. How are you 8 times higher than the real number?

Housing starts are way up right now. August 2012 saw 746,000 housing starts. When Obama took office the number was 490,000 according to the Department of Commerce.

Home resales are their highest rate in 2 years according to the National Association of Realtors.

I don`t even want to live in a country in which the majority are on the right side of that chart. The problem is, this is/was the last place left on earth where that isn`t/wasn`t the case.

I have been actively commenting on this site for over a year now. I have tried to engage you several times. I can`t think of a single time where you have added a fact, or a link, or a legitimate argument.

All you seem to do is make crotchety old man statements, spoken in absolutes or insults, with no factual backing whatsoever. You really add nothing to the conversation.

There is nothing wrong with discourse. I often disagree with 5Cats, MeGrendel, and CrakrJak, however I appreciate that they attempt to site stats or sources to backup their argument. Try it some time.

HG, how`s this for an argument.

A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world`s greatest civilizations has been 200 years.

Mortgage Starts Data Click "All Data" and you will see that the total starts are well below 1970 stats.

CNN says the number of unemployed is 86 million, which is higher than I had read before. Add to that the 27 million that are working but only part time and it`s even worse.

Crakr the link the referenced post is at the end.

Here is what you quoted the first amendment as saying.

"Congress shall make no law establishing religion or abridging the free expression thereof...".

Here is what it actually says.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech"

You changed the wording to try and give your argument that churches have protection of speech when it comes to politics some foundation where there is none. Liars have a hard time keeping track of their lies. Now that I have proven your dishonesty I expect my apology from you forthwith.

Actually, the debt didn`t explode till the Democrats took over congress in 2007. The last budget passed by a Republican congress had a deficit of $248.2 billion, or about 1/6 that of Obama`s deficits.

Yes, Bush was a complete wimp. All he wanted to do was "get along." When the Democrat congress under Pelosi and Reid started exploding the deficit, he should have vetoed their damned budget and told them to shove it up their asses, but he didn`t, and now everything has turned to $#!+.
