According to the article, the cops knelt on his back while trying to arrest him. This causes the person to suffocate and the bodies natural response to that id to struggle. Of course the cops then think that the person is resisting arrest and they apply further pressure and/or choke holds. This isn`t the first time I`ve heard of cops killing someone by suffocation - it`s happened here several times.

At first, after watching the video, I wanted to get the word out about the terrible injustice of this, share it on Facebook and post it on blogs. I felt so bad for the guy, I guess I had assumed that he must have just been caught with drugs or something. But I lost all my sympathy for the guy when I found out that he was getting arrested for robbery, threatening injury to an innocent couple. drat this guy. Then, he disobeyed the police, ran, and they thought he was resisting arrest. No drating wonder they didn`t trust him. This guy is a poobag. It`s too bad he had to go like that, but he brought it on himself. Don`t rob people! But worse, he had just gotten out of jail, so I doubt he was ever going to learn that lesson. I feel bad for his kids, the cops (who will take a ton of heat), and a little bit for his girlfriend. I don`t feel too bad for his dad, because I doubt he raised his kid well. And I don`t feel as bad as I could for his girlfriend, because she picked a loser.

Don`t blame the cops for having to deal with poo bags all day long. This guy was obviously on drugs: he wasn`t sitting quietly in the back of the police car waiting to be taken away. He did it to himself. Some people are too stupid to know how to stay alive. They take drugs, do stupid crap, get caught, and then OD while in custody. Naturally, the victim mentality of the family will kick in. I`d like to see how we would all fare if there were no cops anywhere anytime. At all. Why, we`d all have to be armed, wouldn`t we?

Well fatkid, what if he was innocent? Better yet, what if he wasnt? Are you ok with cops using lethal force whenever they feel like it? A guy that skinny, they prolly broke his ribs and punctured his lungs. I appreciate cops have a tough job, but they cannot go around killing people "accidentally" and not expect repercussions.

@DingDingDong This was in the story in the credit link:
Spitz (a forensic pathologist) said that sickle cell crisis occurred, caused by an officer applying pressure to Williams` back - and perhaps his neck - while he was facedown on the ground.
Sickle cell crisis is caused by oxygen deprivation and the oxygen deprivation that led to Williams` death occurred when Ticcioni held Williams facedown on the ground and forced his knee into Williams` back.
A cracked hyoid bone in Williams` neck - revealed during the autopsy - is an indication that one of the officers may have put him in a chokehold.
It takes tremendous pressure to break the hyoid bone. The injury occurs in only one-third of homicides by strangulation, according to the Journal of Forensic Sciences.

Well Daegog, nice straw man argument there. Way to distort my statement. But actually, no, I said if he had been guilty of non-violent crime, using or selling drugs, I STILL would have felt bad for the guy. But robbery is a crime that ACTIVELY threatens violence and very often results in deaths to innocent people. Moreover, I am not a court system, I don`t have to have evidence beyond reasonable doubt that he was guilty to lose my sympathy for him. The fact that he HAD JUST LEFT JAIL THAT DAY means he was more than willing to commit a crime. Then the fact that an innocent couple reported him, and the fact that he ran when he saw the cops are all good enough for me that he probably did it. Also, I did not say I am glad he is dead. Obviously the cops should have handled it better. But, this is not a circumstance where the cops should take all the criticism. If you don`t want to get hurt while getting arrested, maybe you shouldn`t rob people or flee from cops (another crime).
