Another reason why we need universal health care.

Yup, the UK economy, one of the strongest in the world, is currently being buried under just such a scheme. The people want the NHS but they don`t want to pay for it, go look it up, it`s a scary sight.

Single payer, or just straight up universal health care. Health care, life saving health care more specifically, should always be not for profit.

For you R-tards out there, not for profit is not the same thing as "the doctors won`t get paid." Not for profit means the hospital system doesn`t take in additional money beyond what it costs to run the place. In other words, a bunch of greedy drats don`t get rich off you getting sick.

the guy was reporting that he worked more hours than he actually did. I don`t understand why someone wouldn`t be fired for that.

So now we can accuse the American banks of legitimately killing American children. I`m surprised you guys aren`t out with pitchforks and torches down there.

TKD_Master:That`s why you go in numbers. 1000 would be a good start, if it could reach 50k in a month or less, that would be amazing. Whatever happened to the home of the brave? Oh that`s right they sold out to the love for money, and became sselfish and apathic.. shame that only 40 or so years ago the people were still brave.. but today..

You know how you stop this?

YOu go to your little white house in numbers and you say "DEATH TO THE PRESIDENCY!!! DEATH TO THE PRESIDENCY!!! DEATH TO THE PRESIDENCY!!! DEATH TO THE PRESIDENCY!!! DEATH TO THE PRESIDENCY!!! DEATH TO THE PRESIDENCY!!! DEATH TO THE PRESIDENCY!!! DEATH TO THE PRESIDENCY!!! DEATH TO THE PRESIDENCY!!! DEATH TO THE PRESIDENCY!!! DEATH TO THE PRESIDENCY!!! DEATH TO THE PRESIDENCY!!! DEATH TO THE PRESIDENCY!!! ....."

And you continue. And you grow in numbers. And you don`t stop until you`ve taken back your government.

duckboy - that is only in the emergency room and as soon as she is stable they would let her go. she had cancer, in her condition there is no stable only surgery or death.

This is what struck me.

They wouldn`t have cancelled the surgery. They would have billed him out the ass.

actually they would have asked for a portion up front normally around 20% maby more. also it could be considered an elective surgery, then they would have to come up with the money up front. insurance is a national scam, opperated by the hospitals, the insurance companies and big businesses. all it takes to be denied is a misspelling or impropper wording. they dont care about keeping people healthy anymore only the bottom dollar. we need free health coverage, time to get the almighty dollar out of the way of peoples health. just like everything else money just brings greed. look at anything that has vast amounts of money involved, they are run by corrupt people that only want more for themselves and less for everyone else. government, big business, hospitals, schools, unions, they are all the same.

Why was the surgery cancelled?

Hospitals can`t deny any patient for any reason, and as long as the guy is paying off the bills, even if it`s only $50 a month, the hospital cannot put a lean against his house, or whatever.

Maybe it was a case of "We have this reason to fire you, but we don`t want to because of your daughter." Then they weighed all the options, and were presented with no choice.

Sorry. I am programmed to question everything lol..

I have total sympathy, and I think Wells is a drating piece of poo organization for firing him at that particular time....

The fact still remains, we don`t have all the facts.

I guess it`s my fault for feeling that way though. I should know better than to rely on T.Y.T. to give me an unbiased view.

@AJ: While one cannot deny the possibility of an alternative reason such as you suggest, it doesn`t look that way. He had several meetings with company officials who questioned him about his daughter`s health and the cost of her medical bills and such. Then, three days before the operation, he`s suddenly fired. Even *if* this man was bad at his job or was on the track to being fired, it`s still unbelievably cold to do it right before a surgery that could have saved his daughter`s life. But I guess saying you have sympathy for him is good enough.

We don`t know WHY he was fired. We know what The Young Turks (non-nice individual liberals who spin stories to further their agenda) tell us.

He could have grabbed a woman`s breast or something, but unable to prove that, they fired him for his time sheet.

We. Don`t. Know.

Plus, COBRA is readily available for anyone who loses their job. You can contact them, they don`t have to contact you with it.

I`ve been fired, I purchased my own health insurance for myself and my wife. Even with pre-existing conditions, because COBRA is setup to allow you to do that. We already have regulations in place. And Obamacare will make it even easier to get your own health insurance. Be responsible, people.

This is so dumb. They don`t know how insurance works or COBRA works. I own a business and my goal is to get my employees the best healthcare the business can. If a business acts like they think it`s acting, then people won`t do business with them. This is just corporate hating class warfare crap. You get benefits when you have a job, you lose them when you`re fired, get over it.

They would have treated her, without cost. Did he let her die to make a point?
The hospital just CANCELLED a LIFE-SAVING surgery days before the procedure because he lost his insurance?
This part makes me think. There is a law that a hospital must save you and stabilize you regardless of your ability to pay.

I`m wondering if the whole truth is being told here.

@togr: It`s not "free" health care. It`s "alternatively paid for" health care. As in (1) you don`t pay the whole bill, someone else is forced to pay on your behalf, and (2) you partially pay in the form of limited access instead of in dollars.

So this guy lost his job, his daughter, and his livelihood because he...

Couldn`t remember the exact minutes he worked? Probably under the stress of, you know, a DAUGHTER WITH CANCER.

Why the f*ck don`t they have a digital system for clocking in and out for f*ck`s sake?

On top of that, if he was just an employee, nine times out of ten his supervisor was the one who actually filed the time sheets and all, which means his supervisor wasn`t doing the job of actually checking them.

ALSO: The hospital just CANCELLED a LIFE-SAVING surgery days before the procedure because he lost his insurance? Really? And people wonder why we`re trying to get rid of profit mongering in healthcare...

I wanna see how this case plays out, because if it`s as bad as it sounds, this guy should own a few branch offices by the time it`s over.

"The cost of life just seems to get cheaper..."

@LordJim: The reason you "have" to hand your money over isn`t because the corporation is threatening you. It is because you have an intense need for the thing it offers. In short, what`s compelling you is your circumstances not the corporation.

@intrigid: A rather simplistic analogy actually. You`re forgetting the part where after the One Ring is destroyed and Sauron is defeated, that without the protection offered by The Ring, the bands of wildmen, orcs, trolls etc. utilize the lack of centralized authority to seize power for themselves. Power will corrupt no matter the form, and those with weapons will never hesitate to use them on those with none.

`A really good analogy` Not really. Besides, hand money over willingly to corporations? If I want water, power or fuel I have to pay some corporation or other.

@AntEconomist

And at least when a company relentlessly pursues profit, it can only due so by finding people who will hand over their money willingly. When a government relentlessly pursues power, it can fund its endeavors through force.

A really good analogy is believing that Sauron (corporations) are evil, and believing that using The One Ring (government) is the solution, when in fact only way to disable Sauron is to destroy The One Ring so that he doesn`t have the _ability_ to enslave the population.

Umm, this guy was covered but then screwed over and denied. (at least on the story`s face) The same thing will happen under a govt. plan. There`s no way in H E double hockey sticks that any govt. plan is going to cover 100% of medical problems. It`s one thing to "Guarantee coverage." It`s a whole `nuther thing to actually provide it.

"One of the provisions of Obamacare is that you can`t be denied coverage because of pre-existing conditions, so...yes."

If you think this is in any way sustainable or viable then I think you`ve officially turned your brain off. Just imagine what would happen to fire insurance if people could not legally be denied insurance due to pre-existing fires.

I hope to follow this one in the courts and see how it turns out. If Wells Fargo did to this, this guy should end up owning a couple banks.

Consider on thing, `not filling out time record correctly` can also mean `Falsifying documents`. If you`re a lawyer and you don`t fill out your time record correctly, you can be charged with wire fraud and do prison time.

She`s correct, corporations don`t have souls. But neither does the government. The same people who behave badly in pursuit of profit can behave badly in pursuit of power. Bottom line: Regulation isn`t the solution because it rewards those who pursue power. Boycotting Wells-Fargo is the solution because it punishes those who pursue profit.

This is not an isolated incident. Twelve years ago somethings similar happened to my dad because the company found it was cheaper to pay disability than to pay a full salary AND cover his health insurance.

Wells Fargo has billions of dollars. It could have afforded to pay for his child`s surgery and still stayed afloat. What ever happened to doing the right thing?
