@MadMan66 - the earlier twin rovers had 20mp cameras and although that may be cool it takes hours to retrieve a single pic at that rez. Little benefit was derived from such high resolution. There is no high speed adsl on Mars. Curiosity has 2mp cameras that will do just fine. Some of my best work was on a 1.3 mp Canon. Ya know? It really is rocket science and I THINK NASA has got `er down by now . . .

I think the issue with high res images from mars is more to do with the time it`d take to transmit the data.
Of course I`m saying that having done no research at all, but I`d imagine packet loss would be an issue.

@bawbszilla - I find that hard to believe. You`d think that with all that money they spent on making the rovers that they could put a camera that takes color photos on it at least.

And while on that same subject, don`t you think they could put a higher resolution camera on this thing? I mean, I hope this picture has been resized and lost some resolution before it made it to this site, because my little $120 Canon pocket camera takes better pictures than this! Did they send up a Nokia camera phone or something?

@SnoopyBG I heard that all the pictures of mars up till now were black and white and photo shopped to a rusty color to look more real for the public.

For those who care, it`s wonky because the camera is on the moveable arm and the arm is still tucked in.

For $2.6 billion you`d think they`d at least get the camera on straight.
