So many great points for legalizing marijuana.

NOCASH: while a lot of marajuana anonymouse people will say they were functional in the society, they were able to recognise, and see through abstaining, that they could be even more so without drug abuse. Many reported being happier, and enjoying life even more when being free. But each person is unique, and to each their own. But the fact is clear: drug abuse destroys lives and minds.

Jerm_Leather: You`re too assuming too much from what i`m saying. Nicotine and alcohol abuse DOES destroy minds and lives. They`re legal now, but if a movement wanted to make them not legal i`d be all for it. The point is.. we have 2 drugs legal (tobacco/alcohol), that we know people are abusing and destroying either their minds or lives. So it`s not sensible to make any more drugs legal based on this, decriminalise weed, sure, but not leaglise it. Next thing you know meth or heroin users will be pushing for legalised meth or heroin.

NOCASH: "By my logic?", look you must have missed what i wrote, so let me copy paste it "If you can use it in moderation, then all the power to you." But just because you can smoke it every day, don`t assume everyone else can without experiencing problems, because a lot of people will, and its possible that you will someday too at this rate, seeing you`re in the 18-29 range. most MA folks are older with a similar story.

TheGuySmiley, I smoke almost everyday and have little to know problem being a functional person in society, if you are a responsible person there is no reason why you cant get high everyday and enjoy your life thoroughly. By your logic I should be curled up in a corner high out of my mind failing to see where it all went wrong but it hasn`t so I`m gunna keep on toking and loving life.

@TheGuySmiley:
Alcohol is legal and more people suffer from alcoholism than most other chemical dependencies, yet I don`t see people like you advocating for prohibition. Same goes for tobacco use and prescription drug addiction. It seems to me that most people that are against pot being legalized seem to have the same perspective of those that are against gay marriage. You don`t like it, or agree with it, so everyone else should suffer because of your opinions/beliefs. It`s time to start being more open minded and stop letting archaic perspectives dictate current policy.

False dichotomy, Amsterdam doesn`t have the draconian drug laws like we do and they`re doing just fine.

I think it should it be legal simply because you can`t die from it. If you don`t smoke it fine, but mind your own damn business. 1:6 people in prison right now are in there for marijuana related charges. Laws should only be written to prevent one person from infringing upon the rights of another. It`s just a plant. Plain and simple. There is no other drug, besides mushrooms, that hasn`t been chemically manipulated in some way or is completely synthetic. How is it that the most natural of all the drugs out there is classified as schedule one. If we make things illegal because of what people might do (oh they might get addicted) then everything will be illegal. People need to be able to make decisions for themselves instead of having the government make the choice for them. I would LOVE to choose to pick up some pot brownies instead of a 30 pack of beer because that`s my preference. I hate hang overs. But I can`t because the government thinks they know what`s best.

PG: you should read some studies too, because they point to what I`m saying, that drug abuse does destroy lives and minds.

If you can use it in moderation, then all the power to you. But there`s a large percentage of people who use drugs regularly/recreationally and can`t.

The problem is that they need to escape, or want to enjoy it, more and more. They don`t feel it`s a problem because it`s not hurting anyone. Then while they are crossing the line from use into abuse, they think they are still using in moderation. It`s hard for someone who`s abusing to see where the line is, ironically because of the drug. It usually continues until things start to fall apart around them because of the abuse. Fortunately, a lot of people get out before then, realising the problem, but this is why it`s best to never use drugs in the first place unless absolutely necessary.

A healthy society is a society free of drug abuse.

I honestly don`t understand people that can not complain about drunk people but are bothered by potheads. I recently started smoking but for a long long time I was against it, however I hung around a bunch of people that smoked and the were always fine. Drunk people on the other hand I hate. They`ve puked on and ruined at least 2 friends couches and one of mine (once a friend puked on the wall and forever after that it smelled disgusting), they`re generally loud and annoying at least the ones I know, they stumble around like idiots and you have to babysit them in public, my roommate and another friend crashed their cars from drunk driving and a friends friend was killed by a drunk driver, I`ve also been sexually assaulted by a drunk guy at a party. I`ve never EVER had anything that bad or annoying happen with a pothead.

PG: you assume too much. My stance on drugs is this: Drug abuse destroys lives and minds, and a person`s best bet is to never do drugs period.

Sometimes it may be necessary to use drugs, like using asprin if you have a splitting head ache. Some drugs are prescribed only by doctors to aid with an ailment, surgery, etc. There are drugs sold legally for recreational purposes like alcohol and nicotine. Plus there are street drugs which are actually drugs of abuse. All of these drugs can be abused, destroying lives and minds which is where my stance comes from.

I`m for weed being decriminalised, but not legalised. Legalising weed will only only increase the number of minds and lives destroyed, just like the abuse of legally sold tobacco and alcohol do right now. You say weed has little to no negative effects, but go to MA, and you`ll hear of the real anguish it causes. The fact is when it`s abused it can destroy lives an minds.

@TheGuySmiley: You still tout this "drug abuse destroys minds and lives" but you insist that use constitutes abuse for weed but not for things like alcohol or gambling. Why do those deserve special privilege, especially since weed has little to no negative effects on a person assuming they don`t abuse the substance, and even then it`s just an addiction problem, not the weed itself that is harming them. Get off your high horse and read some actual science on the stuff. It`s not physically harmful, period. That IQ study was only relevant to teenagers, but I`ve always advocated minimum ages for pot. If it`s good enough for cigarettes and alcohol it`s good enough for pot.
because since it`s been illegal, drug sellers have had violence over it (though the true fight is always money, not pot itself). If we don`t include those, we can`t include violence over alcohol,
This would only make sense if you were comparing violence associated with alcohol during prohibition. The things like domestic violence etc. nowadays don`t compare equally to a prohibited substance.

Though I`d really like to know if the true answer of how many people have died from weed is zero--because since it`s been illegal, drug sellers have had violence over it (though the true fight is always money, not pot itself). If we don`t include those, we can`t include violence over alcohol, so.. hmm.. I wonder if the facts here have been misrepresented.

Just curious, of course.

@TheGuySmiley: "Researchers found persistent users of the drug, who started smoking it at school, had lower IQ scores as adults. "

This is old news, it is now only confirmed. It`s not a surprise that any substance use during the brain development phase hinders normal growth.. It just proves that mind altering substances are for grownups. No weed for minors, that`s what responsible pothead thinks anyway. no alcohol and i`m not so sure about coffee either...

Well they say weed lowers your IQ, besides we all know drug abuse destroys minds and lives, so we shouldn`t really be in the process of legalising more drugs for recreational use, but working on removing the ones that we already have.

all very good points. all points politicians are very well aware of. unfortunately the only hope our generation has for change is to wait for congress to grow old and die. one day our generation will be in office.

I would dearly LOVE to ask the president 2 questions:

1) Where would you be today had you been arrested for drug possession?

2) What do you have to say to the millions of Americans whose lives the government has deliberately and systematically destroyed because they got caught doing exactly what you got away with?

I used to smoke and I`ll be the first one to tell you it`s not addictive in the least. I decided to quit one day and I quit. I will also say that they should legalize weed. If anything it saves money on criminals even if it doesn`t make any money, but obviously the government would make some money on it.

Weed and hemp are totally different subjects IMO, hemp is useful as drat but marijuanna would be over regulated and over government backed in allowing ony certain companies to process it.

Also the lower class would be crippled... say what you will it is a vast industry... Marijuanna is (or at least was at one time)more provincial revenue than the top `legal` there were put together (mining, agriculture and forestry).

Also the cotton farms, companies...I am sure.. have a say in it.

It`s the only logical move.. There are many good arguments for it, and no really valid objections..

But of course, government isn`t run on the basis of rational thought..

I wanted to watch it, but it was boring. And I don`t think that was President Obama at the beginning. I don`t smoke weed either, but I have never been out on a Saturday night and been threatened with violence by a pot smoker. For some reason, when young men meet alcohol it becomes overtime for the police department.

Weed should be legal. This is incredibly obvious. I didn`t need this guys crappy rap to know that.

On that note, however, only boring idiots smoke weed. It should be legal because of the obvious benefits it will have in reducing crime & spending on `the war on drugs` and not because some pothead wants to get high... most potheads only used the facts without actually caring about them and really only caring about smoking. It`s sad, really.
