It"s the high school that made the Kessel Run in less than twelve parsecs.

That makes some sense. As I recall, though, and it`s been a long time since I saw the movie, the Kessel Run claim was made in response to the question, "Is she fast?".

@Quackor:
Never played the game so I don`t know if your comment makes any sense but if a store is 5 miles away you can`t get there in less than 5 miles. So you can suck your own, if you can reach it!

I`ve read hundreds of science fiction books - always was a fan. Many writers to to keep their work as scientifically feasible as possible, others just go for entertainment value. I`ve enjoyed both. Obviously, in the interest of entertainment, there are often inconsistencies in movies, especially science fiction. But it should be fairly easy to at least use a word correctly. And, by the way, what is "light incest"?

So why would they use a unit of distance based on the Earth when they knew nothing about the Earth.

Retconning is just making excuses. Lucas got it wrong, Star Wars isn`t real, so big deal.

Or it`s more likely that Lucas didn`t know any better when the script was written.

"The Kessel Run was one of the most heavily used smuggling routes in the Galactic Empire.[3] Han Solo claimed that his Millennium Falcon "made the Kessel Run in less than twelve parsecs". A parsec was a unit of distance, not time. Solo was not referring directly to his ship`s speed when he made this claim. Instead, he was referring to the shorter route he was able to travel by skirting the nearby Maw black hole cluster, thus making the run in under the standard distance." -- from the Wookiepedia

I always assumed that the parsec dialogue was due to there being limitations within the Kessel Run which caused the traveler to take a longer route (in distance), what I envisioned was a Blackhole.

So the amount of parsec`s can be run speaks to the efficiency and power of the ship traversing the Kessel run.

I am not a star wars fun so I could be wrong - but this i how i made it make sense in my head.

"Always hated that line...a parsec is a unit of distance, not time. So is a light year."

Were there any other inconsistencies with reality that bothered you in the work of sci-fi/fantasy about space religion, aliens, sentient robots and light incest?
