99% of what was mentioned is just entertainment. They are correct in that anybody who thinks Jersey Shore and Tyra and Paris Hilton are role models is a sadly deluded individual, but the vast majority of adults know what is real and what isn`t.

Just out of curiosity, what passes for entertainment in North Korea (or other communist countries)? Spending Saturday night sifting through the local garbage dump looking for food?

Fantastic. Absurd that it is a person from N. Korea pointing it out... which just goes to show how fantastically obvious it is. So what do YOU do today to change the world?

The U.S culture in a nutshell... Sadly it`s spreading, I knew every one of these shows. 80% of stuff on New Zealand television at any one time is American reality TV or dramas, and the rest are NZ made shows which try to mimic them. My generation eat it up.. Everyones so dumbed down.

@nicodemus and DrProfessor: The actual documentary starts by saying: "These images will shock you, but dear leader wanted you to know about the depravity of the west"

So yeah, it was most likely made as propaganda for their own country, ironically.

Haha it`s funny because it`s true. It`s so stupid but I don`t bother with any of this shid like Smoking or watching Paris Hilton and reality TV. I can only agree.
It sounds like I wrote this haha

Andrew155, I couldn`t agree with you less. I think our culture peaked in the 1960s and 1970s. Our economic progress, too... Our REAL economic progress. I think we rode the post-war boom for about three decades, and then borrowed like crazy for the 1980s and 90s to try to keep up. Now there is nothing left. And there is very little left to foster a vibrant culture, either. Welcome to the new Dark Ages, boys & girls!

DrProfessor, I think you are correct. I`m sure this did not come from North Korea. I recently watched the VICE doc on YouTube about N. Korea, and this is a country so stuck in the middle ages its citizens would think this video was from another galaxy. I think it was a self-critique by someone in the West. No matter. It`s spot on!

The one thing I disagree on in this video is their general point of view: they apply their perspective of the "hive mind society" they got over there onto western society (which is focused on the individual)

In real everyday life, there are a dratton of braindead mouthbreathers that watch reality tv and keep up on the lives of celebrities, but there are smart individuals too.(individual is a concept they don`t seem to have a firm grasp on)

TL;DR Pot meet kettle

P.S. Korea, I`m with you all the way for your proposal of turning Tyra Banks into a mangled, blood-spattered corpse.

Its hilarious watching this movie and it having so much truth in it, meanwhile if the guy had said ANYTHING, i mean drating ANYTHING About Fatboy "Kim Jun Un` or said anything about the Censorship of N Korea he would have been Shot INSTANTLY, or put in that Torture Chamber known as the Gulag!

I don`t think I`m alone in thinking that western culture needs a huge shift, this video does successfully highlight how dumb we are becoming, we are indeed facing a shallow sea of distraction from the important issues in life. I for one would welcome a socialist or communist regime.

South Korea, you make some self-evident points - but let`s get together and compare statistics on starvation, enslavement, abject poverty and LEGITIMATE state-orchestrated propaganda, shall we?

Oh, and don`t get me started on the pot calling the kettle black when it comes to militaristic/gun-centric culture..

The West started to get lame in the 60`s and 70`s and it`s been downhill ever since. So many reasons for this....I wish we could have a society more like the 30`s and 40`s, but still retain the progress we have made for women`s and gay rights.

The real question is: how did the West get so brutally lame? It wasn`t always like this... I`m not even that old, but I can remember a better time... It`s like the very worst of our culture that maybe accounted for 5% of saturation has now become 95% of what we call "us". How did we get here, and how do we get back? Now excuse me while I watch Tyra Banks and "whip my hair back and forth"...

Most wasn`t altogether untrue, but merely a matter of perception of the same facts.. (shopping for children lol). Yes they are anti consumerism but in a different perception of it... we see the freedom of choice, opinion, and apt reward for being the favourite.... they see a blatant waste of resources and funding thanks to some `fat stupid americans` that can be put towards medical research, military efforts, and other such `community` applications. Sort of a protest against letting people like Angelina and Brad exist in the first place. Also Tiger still wins lol.

One thing which was not true was... Arnold S (no, can`t spell his last name right now) is not the president because he was not born in the U.S., not because he had an affair and a love child...

Some inaccuracies. They have several good points about several issues as well. But I have to agree with most people on this board, the life in North Korea is far from a solution.

Why when someone point a finger at your country your first reaction is to point back the finger at him? Is a really childish behavior. Can`t be more intelligent to try to understand why other say something bad of you and what you can do to change that opinion?

You can accuse America, or the west in general, of "consumerism," but all that really means is that you have is a lot of choice on what to spend your money. A great many of us despise the fanaticism for movie stars and tasteless TV offerings, but we can tune in a nature show or a good mystery if we prefer.
We could also say that westerners have "medicalism," "transportism," or "careerism" because we have far, far, more choice than North Koreans in those areas, too. Don`t be mislead by a silly label that really means "freedom of choice."

There is quite a bit of insightful truth in this video, especially considering where it came from. Not living in North Korea, however, we have the freedom to criticize our society. I`d like to see this film maker do a similar critique of his own country... and live to tell about it.

Wow, this whole movie was without substance and had ass-backwards conclusions.

For starters the video game-violence connection was roundly debunked by statistics. Yet not only did they perpetuate the myth they extend it to say that it`s why we`re the most belligerent country on the world. Oh the STUPID, someone get me some pot and save me from this migraine!

As for the 12 minute mark, so it`s "brilliant" when your dear leader forces you to watch a show while at the same time denying you outside perspective. RRRiiggghhttt.

Perhaps it was your own role in The Ghost of Garganta: The Giantess Rises! that gives you such a sympathetic view.

most of this like many people said is correct, but when we start to really analyze the thick of it you will see that terrible people are all over the world not just america, it just seems more prominent here since america has cameras to watch people every 50 feet.

A surprisingly accurate depiction of "Western" culture in first world nations. I would offer the criticism that the faults depicted here are the faults of those so willingly shepharded and the shephard himself - not the mechanism in which he rules.
