That footprint picture is actually of Buzz Aldrin`s foot.

Actually, almost all of the moon pictures are of Aldrin, taken by Armstrong.

I assume there will be a state funeral. If his family are ok with that.

makes me wonder... What If he wasn`t the first, but the second man to step on the moon. It probably would not make much of a difference.

My heart goes out to all the fans of Green Day who are mourning the loss of their idol.

I also laugh at their stupidity.

Truly a sad day. Neil was a real hero to millions worldwide. He was not an American hero, he was a man admired globally and will be missed by all that know of his achievements.

This should have a lot of media time and a huge funeral,
but alas, most people care more about Michael Jackson or Whitney Houstons deaths.

Can I just say "don`t you dare!" to anyone pondering a "fake moon landing" post?
(Actually, I hope most IABers are smarter than that.)

Well done Neil, Top Man.
If I was him, I`d have my ashes carbonised into a lump, and put on the next moon-shot for final placement.
See Ya up there!

He was my first Hero.I remember the day he touched the surface of the moon.My Mother and Father cried.Today is my turn. If there is any justice in this Universe,He`s there now, looking down and smiling, even if it`s just a fleeting moment.

On Saturday august 25, 2012, humanity lost one of its greatest examples of inspiration. He was born on a farm in Ohio, very ordinary beginnings for one who would go on to do something so extraordinary. Which only served to prove that anyone could be extraordinary. It is at this point that it might be said that there will never be another like him, but I for one hope that to be untrue. For it is now more than ever that we need men and women like him. A source of hope in these challinging times. Godspeed Commander Armstrong. will there ever be another like you?

Legend, Hero, Daredevil, Patriot, they all apply to this man. Rest well, sir. You deserve it.

A lot of people don`t know WHY he was chosen to be the first man on the moon. It was because he was the best damned pilot in the world, and he proved it that night.

RIP

I was born just before the first landing. I was given an 1869 USA silver dollar as a birth gift because of it.

I often daydreamed while I was growing up about being an astronaut who walked on another world. He did it for real. Awesome.

It`s good to see something like this being posted. So many people get sucked up in the lives of "celebrities" and we overlook the accomplishments or passing of real people who deserve our accolades.

I use the term "real people" because when it comes to celebrities people worship the character not the person.

Great guy - Probably my seven year old`s first hero - love the way he never made one of the greatest achievements of the 20th century a big political deal even though those in power at the time wanted him to
