In all honesty, the theory is sound. Execution would be difficult, but if you are somewhere and in a situation where you need fire, and only have an orange, a rock and a stick, well I guess you make it work.

"Using Only An Orange" .... and a knife, and a rock, and a stick.

Oh, and a syringe filled with isopropyl alcohol, and a strike anywhere match head on the end of the stick.

dude, ya gotta let your audience off the hook at some point.
"tee hee, we don`t tell them that we added a flammable substance while the orange was out of view."
Andy Kaufman, you are not.

There is a chemical in the orange skin of an orange peel. It is flammable, but there is no way putting a rock inside and 3 seconds of friction with a stick will start it on fire.

If I posted a picure of the sky and said it was blue,
you jaded bastards would say it`s shopped.

notice how the orange was out of view when it caught on fire? im betting that either the camera guy or the "host" (for lack of a better term) poured rubbing alcohol or something similar into the orange and then lit it on fire while it was out of frame.

He forgot to warn the viewers to wear proper eye gear to protect us from the showers of sparks created after you rub a stick on a wet rock for three seconds.

The camera person was noisy. And somehow I actually feel dumb from watching this video.

old news, its much more efficient to insert a pineapple rectally then rotate it profusely to create friction then quickly pull it out and voila! your pineapple will be blazing

I love how the orange wasn`t in the frame while it "caught fire". :P

If you have a lighter, you can set fire to other things with less preparation...

smaus : Ha-haa! spot-on!
I now understand why they have all those wild-fires in the states.
When the wind blows through the fruit-bearing branches in an orange grove, all them oranges kinda rub against each other, and the infammable vapor caused bah thuh frickshun starts a-flamin of the fruit. (etc...)

It is not fake. The skin on the orange contains paraffin. It is not the citric acid that is flammable :P

Shenanigans! They put lighter fluid in the orange when they panned away from the "experiment."

Can we post things that are actually cool science and not a waste of time?

I hear this works better if you use a fresh dog turd. Just mold it into a ball with your hands, push your nut into it to make a void then put the rock inside, and by the time you`re done licking your fingers clean, you have fire.
