Franz Reichelt Tests His Bat Suit [Pic]

Submitted by: fancylad 4 years ago in Science

Reichelt invented what he thought would be a flying suit. Here he is testing it off the Eiffel Tower in 1912. He died.

Lol that wasn`t just morbid, it was beautiful. It was "stupidity crashing to reality" captured in 4-5 seconds of eternal bliss I will never experience the same ever again..and to think this was the drating thought process of a human 100 yrs ago.

I`m surprised that tests at lower altitudes didn`t show him this wouldn`t work...

"My church teaches `devine weight` and doesn`t believe in the `theory` of gravity."

So angels are squishing us onto the earth?

Mind you saying that invisible quantum particles/waves associated mass somehow results in a curvature of space and time so that in effect the earth and us are pushing against each other, as opposed to being drawn towards each other sounds pretty preposterous.

My physics class teaches the theory of General Relativity. See how I look down my nose at your absurd belief in "Gravity".

@Gerry1of1 - I think the doctrine of intelligent falling may have been of more use here

Probably used a mannequin that weighed 20kg only to try it on himself with a weight of 70 lol

His brother Orville Reichelt was last heard to say: "Hey! I just invented the airplane. Watch this!"

It wasn`t a flying suit, it was a primitive parachute. And it worked on many dummies before.

why not try it first from a chair?
why not place a mattress under, just in case?

I think this gentleman only wanted to commit suicide without breaking the law
