VV Pointed out below: It`s not "fake" fake but it`s a CG Image from some planitarium or other.

I almost said "CGI Image"! That would have drawn the wrath of IAB`s grammer-nerds!

Venus and Mars are often together in Earth`s sky - even though we`re "in between" them. It`s commonplace.

@dogfeet: Mars does indeed have an atmosphere, but if those are clouds they must be dust clouds, eh? Since there`s no rain on Mars. Well none that we`ve seen yet. So iirc Mars has dust clouds.

@mikelae earth is between venus and jupiter, yet both are often visible at the same time. it has to do with where the planets are in their orbits. clouds i can`t explain, although i believe mars has a thin atmosphere.

I knew something was not right, so I checked it out. And I was right it`s a computer generated image, let the bad astronomer explain.

Jupiter is bloody massive:

Dead Mind, Mercury is far smaller than Earth or Venus (diameter is roughly 2.5 times smaller) and would, from Mars, be further away. None of these seem relatively small enough to be Mercury.

Omphaloskept I don`t know but I`d guess it`s because the Sun isn`t up yet. Because Mars has a thinner atmosphere planets will appear brighter closer to dawn. Also, Jupiter is pretty big, it`s massive by comparison the the earth (11 times the diameter) so it`s not unreasonable that, despite being further away, it`s as bright.

Here is my: Paint Guide: Seeing 3 planets from Mars
which shows how 2 planets with orbits inside Mars could be seen lining up with a planet with an orbit outside Mars. One of no doubt hundreds of different ways.

Um, someone`s going to have to explain to me how Earth and Venus, which are always *inside* Mars` orbit, could appear to line up with Jupiter, which is always *outside* Mars` orbit. Could Jupiter really be so bright if it`s on the far side of the sun?
