I think he should have had a good long spliff before trying to execute his plan.... I think his adrenaline made him forget to be all cool until the police arrived.

The best bit though has to be the line `Selling stolen stuff isn`t illegal, I know, I looked it up.`

I think Bradley Manning should use that defence..."giving away national secrets isn`t a crime... I know... I looked it up before I did it."

If it takes a video of a thief getting caught to tell you that stealing is wrong, I don`t think a video is going to do it. I`m glad they caught the guy, and I hope we get a follow-up video on what happens to Craig.

This entire video sucked. it was boring, hard to watch and the whole "sting" was poorly executed! I thought he was gonna STALL the guy till the cops showed up?? He confronted the guy RIGHT away and almost gave him the chance to get away! Then when the cops ask for proof that it`s his bike the guy just starts pointing out random things about the bike that offer zero proof! "yea, see these tires? I put those on there!!" Yea, as if THATS proof! how about a receipt? Anyone can just say "Oh, see those rims? I put those on!" We didn`t even get to see the cops confirm the guy was guilty. This was totally anti-climatic. Big YAWN!

I thought it was strange that someone would care so much about a stolen bike. And then he`s from Portland. All makes sense.

He should have gotten the cops in on it before he confronted the guy, but then we wouldn`t have had the chase scene.

it probably would have been easier to kill someone than to get away with stealing a bike in portland.

The `I`ll stall him` part of the plan didn`t work out. But I guess they tagged the thief as not a threat.

In the UK `Citizen`s Arrest` is a thing (although you don`t have to be a UK citizen) but if you get it wrong you are in a lot of trouble.

Knowingly buying stolen items is actually called "theft by receiving". Selling goods that you know are stolen is considered "trafficking stolen goods." Also, it is DEFINITELY a felony due to the fact that the property is valued at greater than $500. You can`t knowingly purchase something stolen. Well, you can, it`s just a felony in every state.

Gotten two bikes stolen. Here in sweden, especially in urban areas. Police don`t give a poo about stolen property. They care more about harassing people with slightly red eyes minding their own business.

Citizen Arrest in Washington State

Under Washington law, a private person can conduct a citizen’s arrest for a misdemeanor if the misdemeanor: (1) was committed in the citizen’s presence and (2) constituted a breach of the peace. State v. Gonzales, 24 Wn. App. 437, 439, 604 P.2d 168 (1979); Guijosa v. Wal-Mart Stores, 101 Wn. App. 777, 791, 6 P.3d 583 (2000).

A person can also conduct a citizen’s arrest for felonies. See State v. Malone, 106 Wn.2d 607, 724 P.2d 364 at FN1 (1986) citing State v. Miller, 103 Wn.2d 792, 698 P.2d 554 (1985) and State v. Gonzales, 24 Wn. App. 437, 604 P.2d 168 (1979).

etc...

if you believe something you have is of worth get insurance. going magnum PI might seem fun and cool but in reality it costs you and the PD`s involved time and money. you paid 2500 for a bike and rode it for a while it MIGHT be worth half that. lets risk friends and countless other variable`s to retrieve said property. not saying this guy wasnt in the right just saying was it worth it.

lol @ citizens arrest, dbag thief got some payback, but idiot wanna be vigilantes got very lucky, dbag thief had every right to defend himself against idiot vigilantes. And idiot vigilantes do not get the same protection from the law that cops do and could have been hurt or killed if dbag thief had a sack and a brain.

I suppose you theoretically could perform a citizen`s arrest if it`s a felony, although I`m not sure of the state-to-state differences in when you can perform an arrest. Bike thieves deserve this kind of treatment.
