Link: The Underwater Jeep Doesn`t Care About Mechanics - Is this even possible? Wouldn`t an engine just stall after a few seconds?

Very possible, notice the black tube running up the window pillar , it`s a snorkel. as long as the ignition is still water tight all is good...but wet

so simple. the pipe on the left side of the windshield is the end of the sealed muffler. Also all the other parts of the engine are sealed. i have seen this on vehicles in the usa for at least ten years or more.

hatern is correct. the air intake for the engine is up the side of the windshield and it is called a snorkel. the exhaust gases keep the water from traveling back up the pipe and getting to the engine.

"Wouldn`t an engine just stall after a few seconds?"

Snorkel like many have pointed out but as important is a diesel motor. You need no electricity to run a diesel if it has a mechanical fuel and injector pump. The "ignition" comes from the piston compressing the fuel.

@wsmithpa Wrong it`s not the end of a sealed muffler. That is the air intake. And revenantdead I`m not sure who told you that electricity is not needed to run a diesel motor... But EFI has been available with them for a long time. I have ran several fuel injected gas motors underwater without issue. As long as your electronics are sealed tight it really doesn`t matter so long as your intake is above the water level and your exhaust pressure doesn`t stop, your engine won`t fill with water.

There`s a shop near where I live that specializes in customizing Jeeps to do damn near anything. For a cool $25k, you too can have your brand-new Jeep outfitted to run underwater, complete with self-sealing muffler in case of pressure loss, self-extending snorkel (up to 35`!!), hardened electronics, and (get this) a built-in continuous-flow breather apparatus for the driver & passenger which is hooked to the snorkel for the engine.
