@JonasQuim

Obviously that is allowed... But it doesn`t change a belief. Everyone has an opinion either consciously or subconsciously on any matter that is brought to one`s attention. For example, I hate politics, and couldn`t tell you a single person`s name in Government... but if people asked what party I would vote for and gave me a list of their `things`, I would form an opinion. Naturally an opinion cannot be formulated if ignorant of a situation but in the case of `God` - the arguments are placed in our way every day and so I find it hard to believe in this respect that even those that don`t care (such as yourself) haven`t already formulated an opinion on that big guy in the sky, whether you care about him or not :)

Love your reasoning. Works for everything. Add "zilla". Watch:

"absence of evidence" IS NOT "evidence of absence"

i.e.
-Godzilla does not exist (a belief)
-Because you have not seen godzilla (a fact)
-Does not mean Godzilla does not exist, merely that you have not seen Godzilla

Ok, so if I say there are little purple beings on a planet orbiting Sirius. They fly through the air by farting large amounts of gas and eat only dick shaped bugs known as drat you bugs.
I`ll call everyone who believes in this assdratface.
And if you don`t believe in this you`re a facedratass.

The moment you turn your non-belief in God into a COMPETITION with another religion, you have lost.

Atheists need to stop attributing atheism to religion/belief. A more correct way to label their views would be a belief in facts, and science, whatever that may be.

No, that`s not it.

More like this; you have asserted the existence of an entity (God).

You have provided no evidence.

I decline to accept your assertion.

I do not assert that no god exists, but I require evidence before accepting that one does.

Or at least a persuasive argument and I have never yet found one.

PS, you might want to stay away from `ergo` and `modus tollens` unless you actually have the chops to follow up.

Male 2,586
Ergo...

(Modus tollens)
"absence of evidence" IS NOT "evidence of absence"

i.e.
-God does not exist (a belief)
-Because you have not seen god (a fact)
-Does not mean God does not exist, merely that you have not seen God

So Atheism IS 100% a BELIEF, as one cannot prove either way

me = agnostic

1) God can neither be proven nor disproven (without using ridiculous phrases like *look outside, you think that happened by chance?!*).

2) Atheists, using the Wikipedia definition of Atheism (for simplicity): Atheism is, in a broad sense, the rejection of belief in the existence of deities.

Therefore, combining point 1) and point 2), Atheists BELIEVE (as they CANNOT PROVE) that Gods/deities do not exist.

In summary, Atheism IS A BELIEF

Atheism is NOT a belief itself! It is the REJECTION or LACK of certain beliefs.

Theism - belief in supreme being(s), typically the classic monotheism.
Atheism - non-theism.

Get your facts straight.
They have the belief of spreading their non-belief to others
In the same sense that I tell someone that a unicorn doesn`t exist. Sure, I can`t *prove* that one doesn`t exist, but that`s as solid a proof as science would give. If you want to go believing in unicorns go ahead, but if you bring one up don`t complain when I tell you they are BS.

@mainerboy: I think so with the way some atheist behave. They have the belief of spreading their non-belief to others in a condescending manner and anyone else who believes otherwise are considered morons. The killing part about it is that these are the main ones ragging on Christians who try to spread their faith to others. Bottom line, you have assh0les in every faith and non-faith.

And you think what he said was silly?

Atheism is the default stance for every human. It`s just a description for those that do not take part in theism. It makes no assertions about what anyone believes. Atheists are not held together by any common belief. Atheism is only a description of 1 thing we do NOT believe.

I didn`t say they aren`t decent people. I said they aren`t rational people. There is nothing rational about religious belief. That doesn`t make you a bad person. But be self aware enough to admit that your belief in God has NOTHING to do with rationale.

not really a religion.

to say they have faith that there is nothing is just plain stupid.

the burden of proof to prove the existience of God or any God is with the person telling you that a God exist.

not with the person hearing it.

so to say, "you cannot prove God doesn`t exist" is just stupid, retarded and makes the person look like an idiot.

again, burden of proof people, not on the unbeliever but with the believer.

therefore, it is not a religion because it does not require faith.

Ah, Holy God. Hopefully one day you will grow up and realize that the vast majority of people, atheist or religious, are basically decent people trying to do the best they can, and who don`t deserve to have their beliefs trivialized even if you disagree with them. If that day every comes, you will become a happier, less angry person.

"atheists believe that there is no God"

No.

First, there is no such thing as atheists. I don`t believe in supernatural beings. People who believe in them can name themselves. You don`t name someone who doesn`t believe in Santa or the Tooth Fairy.

Second, saying I "believe" there is no God is like saying you "believe" there isn`t a magical invisible purple rooster that lives in your non-nice individual and grants wishes.
MacGuffin: actually that`s not true.

For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. (Romans 1:19-20)
Unless you actually do believe in Scientology`s Xenu and ancient Romans` Zeus, then please just f*ck off with your meaningless Bible quotes, because they don`t prove my comment that believers in all religions reject the Gods of other religions is "not true" in any way. All they `prove` is that you get your version of truth from a book that was heavily and selectively edited by humanity over millennia.

Atheism is not a belief. It is a lack of belief. Atheism is not a religion. It is the complete opposite of religion by its very definition. The burden of proof is on those that believe in something. You cannot prove Bigfoot or the Lochness Monster does not exist. It is left to those that believe they exist to prove said existence. Atheism cannot be proven, since you cannot prove that something does not exist. Thus, until someone can show that a god does exist (notice that it is "a god," not "the God"), then no religion anywhere has any basis at all for their beliefs.

@T3hHippie : What`s a "true" atheist? All that`s required is a lack of belief in a god or gods. Which is why when someone asks which religion to which I belong, I reply "I`m not superstitious". It`s more accurate than saying atheist in the same way that if someone were to ask my hair color I would reply "I`m bald" as opposed to "My hair is not chromatic".
